To be precise, the course is ninety two kilometres west of Dublin, one hundred and twenty five kilometres north east of Limerick, but only thirteen kilometres north of Tullamore.
The archives show organised horseracing started in the Kilbeggan area in 1840, and came about after a group of local gentlemen gathered together to organise a challenge cup for a prize of 40 guineas.
