British raiders have double success at Chantilly.
Winter Derby winner Scintillo had only managed two placed positions in his last two starts, but in today's Group 2 Grand Prix de Chantilly, the Richard Hannon trained four year old showed a sparkling change of pace to come from last to first for jockey Richard Hughes. The slow pace of today's race certainly suited Scintillo, as he does have the acceleration needed in tactical races, and his final furlong burst managed to secure today's pattern race prize by a head from french rival Chinchon.
However, this win does put his participation in Friday's Coronation Cup at Epsom in some doubt, and Royal Ascot could be a more likely option for the Hannon team.
In a later race on the Chantilly card, Adrian Nicholls rode a stunning race on seven year old Tax Free in the Group 2 Prix de Gros-Chene. Making the running in his usual fashion, all seemed lost when Italian rival Black Mambazo came with a fine run on the outside of the field to head Tax Free in the final furlong, but Adrian Nicholls had obviously kept a little in reserve, for his father's horse responded to pressure, and got back up to land the race in the shadow of the post.
After the race, David and Adrian Nicholls had an anxious wait as the Chantilly stewards investigated an incident were the two principles came together in the last half furlong, but after further investigation of the recordings of the race, the officials ruled the bump had been accidental, and Tax Free collected yet another pattern race victory.
In 2008 Marchand D'or and Equiano had been first and second in the corresponding race, but today they continued their shocking form in recent times, occupying the last two positions home in the 2009 contest.
Homebound continues purple patch for Rouget and Lemaire.
Trainer Jean Claude Rouget and jockey Christophe Lemaire can hardly do anything wrong at present, and under an enterprising ride from Lemaire, the Rouget trained Homebound stole a march on her rivals in today's Group 2 Prix de Sandringham at Chantilly, as she left the late finishing Italian rival Reggani with too much to do in the final furlong, and despite an excellent turn of foot from the runner up, Homebound kept her neck in front as the first two passed the post.
Epsom ground forecast to be good.
Epsom Clerk of the Course Andrew Cooper is forecasting the ground for the two day Derby meeting will be good, but he does admit if the weather stays warm over the next few days, he will probably have to water the course later in the week.
Botti hoping for successful Irish raid.
Marco Botti is on a fact finding mission when he sends Electric Feel on a raid across the Irish Sea for tomorrow's Coolmore Stud Fillies Sprint Stakes at Naas. The one hundred thousand pound Group 3 is a good indicator to future success, with last year's winner Cuis Ghaire going on to run with distinction in major Group 1 contests.
The form of Electric Feel's maiden victory at Newmarket in early May has worked out well, with one of the also rans going on to win, while the runner up has since finished fourth in a Listed race.
Electric Feel will have to face six rivals in tomorrow's six furlong contest, including; A Mind Of Her Own and Just Around Midnight from the David Wachman yard, Jim Bolger's Kitty Kiernan, Aidan O'Brien's well regarded Lillie Langtry, What About Me, and recent Listed winner Wrong Answer.
Using tomorrow's race as a determining factor in assessing her future, Botti has indicated if his filly puts in a good performance, she will almost certainly go forward to compete at Royal Ascot.
Listowel gets go ahead as course improves.
The decision to put the start of Listowel's three day meeting back a day has paid dividends, as drying weather has helped the track pass a precautionary inspection, and the fixture will now start today, with no problems predicted for the remainder of the meeting.

Malibu Bay is set to run in next week's Prix de Jockey Club in France, Freemantle will probably represent the stable at Royal Ascot, while Johann Zoffany won on Wednesday evening, giving the trainer's son his first victory as a jockey, and he may now go to the Irish Derby meeting at the end of June.
Twelve remain in Coronation Cup.
Ralph Beckett's 2008 Epsom Oaks winner Look Here is due to have her seasonal debut in Friday's Coronation Cup, and she will be racing over the same course and distance as her greatest triumph to date. The filly will be joined by last year's Irish Derby winner Frozen Fire from the Aidan O'Brien yard, Arc de Triomphe runner up Youmzain will represent Mick Channon, while Dermot Weld is to send recent Curragh winner Casual Conquest over from Ireland for the Group 1 contest.
