Sanders out for season.
It has been confirmed, last year's joint leading flat jockey, Seb Sanders, has broken his leg, and will now miss the remainder of the current turf flat season.
Sanders was riding Luca Cumani's Speed Gifted in a listed contest on yesterday's Chester card, when Sir Duke stumbled and fell, bringing down Sander's mount and Cheshire Prince.
Following the horrrific incident, multiple winner Sir Duke was so badley injured he had to be euthanised, but luckily, the two other horses were less seriously injured.
Following the incident, Sanders was immediately attended by medics, and then taken by ambulance to the Countess of Chester hospital. After a thorough examination, including x-rays, Sanders learnt the bad news about his leg, plus the dashing of any hopes he held about defending his championship crown.
Curlin victory not impressive.
In a fiercely run Woodward Stakes at Saratoga yesterday, Curlin, the world's top rated horse, returned to winning ways. However, his one length victory margin was achieved in 'workman like fashion', and did not enthuse punters to rush to the telephones with their wagers for the Breeders Cup Classic at Santa Anita in October.
Chandlers notice affects of economic slow down.
Due to a definite slow down in racecourse betting turn over, bookmaking firm Victor Chandler are to cut back on their on-course pitches.
The firm currently hold eleven rails positions on british racecourses, and they feel the general economic slow down is affecting their margins. As a result, the decision has been made to relinquish their pitches on two or three tracks where turn over is no longer considered worthwhile.
