Twelve fillies stay in Oaks reckoning.

At today's latest decleration stage, only twelve fillies remain entered for the Investec Oaks at Epsom. Luckily for anti post punters, the three market leaders; Sariska, Rainbow view, and Midday, are among the remaining entrants.

One winning syndicate secure Scoop Six.

A syndicate who invested over five thousand pounds have won today's Scoop Six Win Fund of £179,187, and they will now go forward to next Saturday when they will hope to add the £202,000 still up for grabs in the Bonus Fund.

Premio Loco lands On The House Stakes.

Stan James 2,000 Guineas seventh, Pure Poetry tried to make all in the one mile On The House Listed Stakes at Goodwood, and the attempt nearly succeeded, but in the last half furlong Premio Loco found a burst of speed which denied the three year old in his first run against older horses. Recent Newmarket winner Ya managed to grab third place.mal

Caracciola denies his years at York.

The Nicky Henderson 2008 Cesarewitch winner Caracciola is now twelve years of age, but he put his age behind him at York this afternoon when he landed the mile and three quarters Listed sportingbet.com Stakes.

Setting his own pace, the writing looked on the wall for Caracciola at the three furlong from home pole, for favourite Friston Forest came alongside and then took a small lead, but the old boy would not be denied, and he forced himself back to the front in the shadow of the post, scoring another fairytale success for his connections.

Main Aim appears to be the real deal.

Despite pulling too hard in the early stages of the Group 3 Timeform Drury Stakes at Haydock, Main Aim followed up on his recent large margin Newbury Handicap victory with a comprehensive success in this strong pattern race. Always in the first three in today's seven furlong contest, he and Beacon Lodge went on at the furlong pole, and only the proven Group performer Arabian Gleam could get close to the front two.

Main Aim and Beacon Lodge both look like good horses to follow in major seven furlong races this season, but Main Aim looks progressive and versatile, with trips between six furlongs and one mile appearing to be within his compass, and his list of entries suggests he will be tested at the highest level.

Merlin conjers up late victory.

Clive Cox's excellent start to the current flat season continued at Goodwood when Red Merlin came with a devastating late run to deny long time leader and favourite Crackentorp in the mile and a half Class 2 handicap this afternoon.

Red Merlin has now won two races and finished second in his two other races so far this season, and providing the handicapper does not punish him too much, he could well add more victories to his current season's tally.

D'Arcy makes right decision.

Paul D'Arcy had decided to re-introduce his progressive Suzi's Decision back at the same class as she finished last season, and his opinion proved very successful as she came from first to last in the final two furlongs to see off the front running Les Fazzini, and land today's Listed Fillies Stakes at Haydock Park.

Based on this performance, this is a filly going places, and she should be considered for a Group 3 prize on her next outing.

High Standing lays Stewards Cup claims.

The William Haggas trained High Standing was very impressive in his sicx furlong Class 2 success at Goodwood this afternoon, and this progressive sort looks tailor made for the Stewards Cup back at Goodwood at the beginning of August.

Ialysos turns into greek gift for Cumani.

Luca Cumani had obtained Ialysos from greek racing, where he had an unbeaten record, and after his first run on turf, he still remains unbeaten.

In today's Listed J W Leighs Pinnacle Stakes at Haydock Park, he was given a superb ride by William Bewick and came with a superb late run to deny lightly weighted three year old Anglezark in the final half furlong.

Hoh Hoh Hoh ran his usual good race in third place, but former leading lights Captain Gerard and Dandiman both failed to shine despite being blinkered for the first time.

One time Derby hope makes his come-back.

Winner of the Group 2 Champagne Stakes in 2007, McCartney was then purchased by the Godolphin organisation as a potential Derby hope, but in an injury hit 2008, he was only seen once when finishing last in York's Dante Stakes.

The four year old is due to have his first run in over twelve months when he competes in this afternoon's sportingbet.com Stakes back at York, but connections are said to be holding out little hope of a miraculous return to top class form. Instead, they are hoping he will show some of his old sparkle, and this will at least give an indication as to the level at which he should be competing during the remainder of the flat season.

In the same race, double Group 1 winner Court Masterpiece returns from stud duties to restart his racing career for new trainer John Quinn. The handler admits,

"I have no idea how he will perform, but if he retains only fifty per cent of his former ability, he should be in the mix amongst listed company".

Crowded House decision expected on Monday.

Brian Meehan has reported one time Derby favourite Crowded House seems to have fully recovered from the vial infection which effected his run in the Dante Stakes, and he also came through a strong gallop on Friday with no set-backs, but as his three year old has lost some work after the Dante, the trainer wants to give him another gallop on Monday before making a final decision on his Investec Derby participation.

Thomas to join George as stable jockey.

After shadowing Ruby Walsh as the number two jockey at the Paul Nicholls Ditcheat yard for several years, Sam Thomas has decided to make the move to the Tom George yard, where he will commence his duties as stable jockey with immediate effect.
