Scoop Six rolls over again. With a trio of double digit priced winners in the first three legs of today's Scoop Six, it was hardly suprising only four tickets made it to the fifth leg of the bet, but Dan Sant's victory did not suit the remaining ticket holders, and the Win Fund of £290,885 will roll over to next week. With no chance of the Bonus Fund being won this week, the pot rolls over and will stand at £120,665 next Saturday. Now the weather plays another trick. For the past few months we have got used to hearing about racing cancellations due to waterlogging, frost and snow, but now drought is about to rear its ugly head. Exeter's chase course is not accessible for watering, so with only two millimetres of rain having fallen on the track over the last ten days, officials have a chase course which is firm, and due to safety considerations, it is currently unraceable. With a fixture due next Wednesday, the Exeter officials are hoping for some precipitation over the weekend, but to be on the safe side, they will hold a 10 am inspection on Monday morning, and if the Chase course is still too firm, they will seek permission from the BHA to change the Wednesday fixture to an all hurdle six race card. What worries? If John Gosden was worried about the good underfoot conditions in today's Lincoln Handicap, Expresso Star put those doubts to bed at the furlong post of today's Heritage Handicap at Doncaster. The extremely well supported favourite scooted clear from the chasing Zaahid and the remainder of the field, and based on this form, on his preferred soft ground, he could be a potential pattern race winning horse. After today's victory for Expresso Star, David Williams of Ladbrokes stated the fears of many bookmaking firms, too many winning anti post vouchers are now carrying forward to the fancied horses in next week's Grand National. "If any of the first five in the Grand National market are successful next week at Aintree, with lots of potential roll over doubles still active, we could be in line for some serious financial losses". Bad day for favourites at Nad al Sheeba. In only the second race at the world's richest race meeting at Nad al Sheeba, the writing was on the wall for the fancied horses. In the UAE Derby odds on favourite Desert Party was unable to quicken sufficiently to catch his front running stable mate Regal Ransom. Favourite Indian Blessing seemed likely to land the Golden Shaheen, but she was not able to cope with the late burst of Big City Man. Gladiatorus led from start to finish to see off the fancied horses in the Dubai Duty Free. Dubai trained Eastern Anthem then saw off the British challenge led by Youmzain in the Sheema Classic. But perhaps the major upset came in the world's richest race, the Dubai World Cup, when last year's third placed Well Armed put in a late run to secure the final suprise of a day of suprises. Dettori will ride more often in France.Sheikh Mohammed's main French based trainer Andre Fabre has indicated he expects Frankie Dettori to be the main rider of the Sheikh's Pattern Race entries in France, and based on this information, Frankie can be expected to be spending lots of Sunday's in the upcoming flat season soaking up some French style. Captain eclipsed by Star. When market leaders Glenfinn Captain and Watson Lake were clear at the third last in today's UAIMH Chase at Navan, it looked like a two horse race. Then the pair started to drop back to the rest of the field, and although odds on favourite Glenfinn Captain rallied after the last, he lost out in a tight finish to the Tony Martin trained Royal County Star. Dan Sant wears down Kandidate in Magnolia Stakes. Daryl Holland nearly pulled off a great tactical ride on old boy Kandidate in today's Magnolia Stakes at Kempton Park. Setting the pace from the stalls in today's ten furlong contest, he took a breather in the back straight, and put in a telling kick as the field turned into the straight for the final time. At one stage, he looked certain to win, but the prolific Dan Sant reeled him in, and snatched the race on the line. Favourite Bronze Cannon, could only run on at one pace for third place, and looks like he might need further, or a pace maker in future races. Prime Defender rewards favourite backers. The Barry Hills trained Prime Defender had not won for nearly a year, but he had been running in good company, and today's step down to Listed class in the Cammidge Trophy at Doncaster paid dividends. However, when Pusey Street Lady snatched the lead at the furlong pole, Prime Defender had to work hard to peg her back, but he always looked like he had enough to win. The Richard Fahey trained Knot In Wood ran well on his return to Listed class from handicapping, and picked up a respectable third place. Cape Express shows inexperience in Rosebery Stakes.Extremely well supported Cape Express had every chance in today's Rosebery Stakes at Kempton Park, but when asked for his effort a furlong out, he ran green and could not catch Sweet Lightning, who had snatched the lead on the rail, but both horses were foiled by a late run on the outside of the field by Greylami, who just collared Sweet Lightning on the line. Greylami's twelve to one starting price just about ended all interest in today's Scoop Six. Manassas lands suprise in Spring Cup.Punters who supported the J P Macmanus owned Spectate in the Spring Cup new their fate at the start, when he reared and was unable to race. As per usual in the straight mile races horses headed for each rail, and it was the Brian Meehan trained Manassas who prevailed on the stand side rail from the late finishing Extra Terrestial, while Majuro, who headed the group on the far rail, finished third. The winner ran in a Group Two as a two year old, but he has been difficult to train, and this first run as a four year old came after nearly a year off the track. Needless to say, his twenty two to one price drove another nail into the Scoop Six, as this race formed the second leg of today's bet. Daddy's Gift hits first leg of Scoop Six.Richard Hannon horses are in fine form at present, and despite having a bad draw for the 2.25 pm at Kempton Park, (the first leg of the Scoop Six), the fourteen to one chance snatched the race on the line and gave a huge dent to the punters involved in today's Scoop Six wager. Supreme Novices form stands up to scrutiny.Kangaroo Court, who was among the 'also rans' in the Supreme Novices Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival, certainly franked the form of the Grade One contestwith a facile win in Lingfield Park's 2.15 pm hurdle. Eddery team land the Brocklesbery. The Pat Eddery trained Hearts of Fire in the competent hands of brother Paul ,sprinted clear of his rivals in the Brocklesbery Stakes at Doncaster this afternoon. Favourite Swilly Ferry flattered just before the final furlong pole, but ran on at one pace for third position, with the Mick Channon trained Archer's Road running on for a creditable second place. Anti post punters praying for rain.Morning News.Expresso Star's participation in this afternoon's William Hill sponsored Lincoln Handicap is now in doubt. The extremely well punted anti post favourite for today's Doncaster centrepiece has only ever won on good to soft or soft ground, but with the ground at Doncaster currently riding good, connections are hoping the forecast rain materialises in time to soften today's ground conditions. With John Gosden in Dubai for the World Cup meeting, it is understood travelling head lad Les Reynolds will walk the track after the first race on today's card, and only then will a decision on Expresso Star's participation be made. At this stage, we suspect a large number of anti post punters are involved in a mass rain dance throughout the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland. O'Connor reported to be stable.Colm Murphy's stable jockey Matt O'Connor was reported to be stable overnight in Cork University Hospital. The jockey is still in a serious condition with head injuries following his sickening fall at Thurles on Thursday, but with no further deterioration in his condition, it is hoped he could be on the road to recovery.
