Burke ban suspended for one day.
Trainer Karl Burke was due to start ghis twelve month ban from racing at midnight tonight, but this afternoon it was confirmed he is going to appeal against the severity of the suspension he has received for providing insider information to former owner and now lifetime banned Miles Rogers.
As a result of Burke's action, the BHA have agreed to suspend his ban for 24 hours while a member of the Disciplinary Panel makes a judgement as to whether Burke's appeal can be heard by the full BHA Disciplinary Panel.
If Burke's legal team are allowed to present an appeal against the severity of his twelve month ban, it is likely his suspension from racing will not start until such time as that appeal has been heard, and a secondary judgement issued on the validity of his appeal.
Testing going for first day of Galway Festival.
Course officials are reporting the going for this evening's first card of the week long Galway Festival Meeting will probably be soft to heavy. Although tomorrow looks to be a drier day, weather forecasters are warning of potential heavy showers on Wednesday, so the going for the early part of the Festival looks likely to be testing.
Connections expect Harbinger to improve for the run.
After his second in the Wood Ditton Stakes, and an easy success at Chester, the Sir Michael Stoute trained Harbinger missed a lot of work due to a pulled muscle in his quarters, but connections confirm after it became apparent he would not be fit in time to compete at Royal Ascot, then he has been prepared for tomorrow's Gordon Stakes at Goodwood.
However, before punters pile into a potential 'good thing', representatives of owners Highclere Racing have issued a warning, their three year old may be full of promise, but he is only about 90% fit, and will come on for tomorrow's race.
Less than one in three will make it!
With ninety horses standing their ground at today's five day stage for Saturday's ultra competitive six furlong Stewards Cup, less than one in three of the declared field will actually make it into the final line-up, as this year there is a safety limit of only twenty seven horses for one of the betting highlights of the whole Glorious Goodwood meeting.
Godolphin suffer double injury blow on eve of Goodwood.
Godolphin have today confirmed tomorrow's Betfair Cup entrant Asset, and Gordon Stakes declared runner Parthenon have both gone lame on the eve of Goodwood, and both horses have now been withdrawn from their intended races on tomorrow's first day card.
By their own high standards, Godolphin have had a disappointing season so far, but in recent weeks the organisation's horses had started to pick up prizes, so this double blow on the eve of Goodwood is an unwelcome development.
Betfair to switch 'Million' incentive to the flat?
It is reported today, the world's leading betting exchange Betfair are to switch their million pound bonus incentive from the national hunt calendar to next year's flat calendar.
It is thought the decision is based on two criteria; firstly, Paul Nicholls's apparent dominance of the national hunt ranks -, and secondly, Betfair's desire to boost the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes - a race they now sponsor.
It is understood the new Million competition in 2010 will be an incentive for the Derby winner to take part in the King george VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, with the third qualifying leg being a yet to be nominated race at the Breeders Cup in 2010.
If the current sketchy information is correct, it seems Betfair are prepared to increase the Million pound prize to a much higher level if it will persuade the Derby winner in 2010 to compete in Betfair's sponsered King George race at Ascot. The inclusion of a Breeders Cup race would also enable Betfair to hold talks with the organisers of the Breeders Cup about potential sponsership of an event at that particular competition.
Main contenders remain in Sussex clash.
At today's 48 hour decleration stage, dual Group 1 winning three year old filly Ghanaati remains on course to take on Queen Anne Stakes victor Paco Boy in Wednesday's BGC Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
However, if the 'vibes' coming out of Ballydoyle are to be believed, they might both have to be at their best to see off Rip Van Winkle, who is reported to have come on again from his runner-up position in Newbury's Coral Eclipse Stakes behind the world's top rated three year old Sea The Stars.
Thirteen fillies currently declared for Nassau Stakes.
At today's five day decleration stage, the generations are pretty equally represented in Saturday's Goodwood highlight - the ten furlong Group 1 Nassau Stakes.
The Classic generation fillies are led by Henry Cecil's Epsom Oaks runner up Midday, and french trainer Alain de royer-dupre's Coronation Stakes second Reggane. Listed York winners High Heeled and Nashmiah, annd Royal Ascot winner Moneycan'tbuylove also represent the three year old generation, as does the frankly disappointing Rainbow view.
However, the younger fillies have some tough older opposition, including; the very capable Cheveley Park Stud pair of Heaven Sent and Spacious - both of whom have won at Group level this season, Pretty Polly winner Dar re mi, Lancashire Oaks and recent Newmarket winner Barsheba, these front line four are likely to be joined by the John Oxx filly Katiyra, with the thirteen currently declared runners being made up by Saphira's Fire and Sweet Lily.
Moyglare target likely for Misheer.
Clive Brittain has confirmed his impressive Cherry Hinton winner Misheer is being prepared for a crack at the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes a the Curragh in August. Having only been demoted to second place on one of her four outings, and that by Wesley Ward's top class American sprinter Jealous Again at Royal Ascot, Brittain believes his two year old filly has earned the right to have a crack at a Group 1 prize.
Arctic to move up to Group class for his next race.
Having blasted away his opposition in yesterday's Listed Grangecon Stud Stakes at the Curragh, connections of obviously talented juvenile Arctic have indicated he will step up into Group company for his next outing.
Given an excellent ride by Pat Shanahan in Sunday's contest, the two year old grey showed considerable improvement on his successful first run at Bellewstown, and if he continues to be progressive, trainer Tracy Collins could eventually have a genuine Group 1 contender on her hands.
Another international Group 1 success for Pressing.
Albeit in controversial style, the Michael Jarvis trained Pressing secured his second international Group 1 success when landing yesterday's Grosser Dallmayr-Preis in Munich.
After a solid early pace, Pressing and the Godolphin owned Trincot came through to battle for the lead, and although Trincot seemed to weaken first, Pressing did him no favours by appearing to squeeze him for room on the stand side rail. However, the incident did not count against the winner as he had the upper hand and showed it by quickening up and scoring by three quarters of a length from the fast finishing Precious Boy.
Tregonning ends three month wait.
Trainer Marcus Tregonning has been severely hit by a virus which has rampaged through the horses in his yard since May of this year, but after ninety one days without a winner, he obtained the first sign his horses may have turned the corner, as his Sterling Sound raced to victory in yesterday's Liverpool University Equine Vets Maiden Fillies Stakes at Ascot.
With Finjaan and Asker Tau due to run at Goodwood this week, Tregonning is now hoping his horses will show they have recovered from the worst effects of the virus, and will become competitive in the second half of the current flat turf season.
