Colours and geography combination provides the Tri-cast.

All an enterprising punter had to do to pick up the tri-cast in today's Listed September Stakes at Ascot was to put together combinations of colours and geographical features into their bet - For under a strong drive from Ryan Moore over the final furlong, Her Majesty the Queen's Golden Stream landed the race, and she was followed home in second and third positions by Red Dune and Greenisland.

>>>>>> Editor's comment -

Sometimes I think we should leave this betting business to the kids, for one of mine picked the first three horses homeout for their colour option - but did I back them - don't be daft!

Scoop Six not won again.

Having seen some of today's long priced winners, it will come as no suprise the Scoop Six rolls over again - Full details will appear in tomorrow's news section.

Rip Van Winkle outstays game Zacinto.

Richard Hills made the mistake of trying to take on Rip Van Winkle in today's Group 1 Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot, and by three furlongs out his mount Aqlaam had nothing left to give. For a moment it looked as if Delegator would lay down a challenge, but in fact it was left to Sir Michael Stoute's progressive Zacinto to lay down the final challenge. At the furlong pole, Zacinto had managed to get within half a length of the Ballydoyle stable star, but Johnnie Murtagh knew his horse would stay, and over the last half furlong, he moved further ahead to land his second successive Group 1.

Based on today's performance, Rip Van Winkle would now appear to be a nailed on probability for the Breeders Cup in November.

Advanced another shocker for punters.

Always in the front rank of today's Totesport Challenge Cup, the Kevin Ryan trained 33/1 shot Advanced stayed on stoutly to hold off the Frankie Dettori drive on Luca Cumani's Axiom in the final half furlong of today's seven furlong Heritage Handicap at Ascot. After a photograph, the judge could not separate Something and Proclaim, and both were declared as dead heated for third place.

Bowen second string takes Market Rasen highlight.

Peter Bowen has made the extended two and three quarter mile Listed September Chase his own over the last few years, but while many punters had assumed Always Waining would be his stable number one in today's race, it was in fact his 12/1 shot Valley Ride who held off the late A P McCoy drive on War of the World, with race favourite From Dawn Till Dusk having to settle for third place in a tight finish.

Brittain's Hibaayeb also survives enquiry to land Fillies Mile.

Sent From Heaven made a bold bid to make all in this afternoon's Meon Valley Stud Fillies Mile at Ascot, but she was always closely attended by Lady Darshaan and Hibaayeb, and at the furlong pole the two other fillies started to quicken and all three fillies then came into contention.

Unfortunately, Hibaayeb ignored Joe Fanning's urgings to keep straight, and she bumped into the filly alongside her, causing Sent From Heaven to lose her action for a stride or two, but Clive Brittain's charge then took off and clearly won the race on merit from Lady Darshaan, while the luckless Sent From Heaven surrendered third place to You'll Be Mine in the final strides.

After another stewards enquiry, Hibaayeb was adjudged not to have effected the result, and thereby secured her first Group 1 success.

Joshua Tree keeps Royal Lodge Stakes after enquiry.

Despite crossing in front of the tiring Timely Jazz and Frozen Power in the final furlong of today's Royal Lodge Stakes at Ascot, the Colm O'Donoghue ridden Joshua Tree was found to have not affected the result of the horses he crossed, and so survived a stewards enquiry after his victory for his Ballydoyle connections.

To be fair, Joshua Tree deserved to keep the race, for he showed a dramatic turn of foot to grab the lead, and he also exhibited plenty of stamina to hold off the late runs of John Dunlop's Wasseek and Godolphin's Vale of York.

Ahla Wasahl starts off Ascot meeting with a shock win.

The David Sincock trained Ahla Wasahl stayed on strongly to hold off Alsace Lorraine in the Deloitte sponsered Listed Rosemary Stakes, and by so doing, she kicked off Ascot's two day September meeting with a shock 33/1 result.

With regard to the fancied fillies in the race, Richard Hannon's Shamwaari Lodge obtained a terrible passage, and could not achieve a clear run until it was too late, while Applause never got into her stride until the final furlong, and could not even overhaul Headfort View and Sara Park, who took the minor honours in today's one mile contest.

Dick Turpin now aiming to complete French raid.

Having already snatched the valuable Fairyhouse Sales Race prize on his recent visit to Irelan, the Richard Hannon trained Dick Turpin is now to be sent on a raid to France to secure the Group 1 Prix Jean du Lagardere on 'Arc Day' at Longchamp.

The progressive two year old has shown he does not mind good ground, and he could become the yard's number one for Classic honours if he can snatch next weekend's prize from a strong european challenge.

Connections of Dar re mi lose appeal.

As we predicted in this news section on Thursday, the connections of Dar re mi have lost their appeal against her demotion from first place in the Prix Vermeille at Longchamp.

In a press release issued last evening, France Gallop reiterated Dar re mi caused marginal interference in the closing stages of the race to German raider Soberania, and as the panel believe Soberania would have gone on to finish fourth had she not been marginally obstructed, under French rules Dar re mi was demoted to one place behind Soberania - from first position to fifth place.

The fact Dar re mi's demotion handed the race to unbeaten french filly Stacelita will have the conspiracy theorists working overtime, but although this is a handy outcome for french racing, the fact remains under the current french rules Dar re mi was just about at fault.

However, that is not to say Racingsight agrees with the french rules and the outcome in this case, but runners have to abide to the rules of the country in which they are racing.

Bearing in mind what has been said by connections in relation to this case, the most probable outcome of this decision will be Dar re mi's withdrawal from next week's Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe, and this is a decision which will only weken the race, and will once more open the french racing authorities up to criticism for their current draconian Rules of Racing.

Bookmakers luke warm on early morning proposal.

The proposed early morning race meeting at Kempton Park to tie in with Channel 4's Morning Line Saturday programme has met with a luke warm response from the bookmaking firms. Speaking on behalf of Coral, Simon Clare said,

"If we assume the first race were to go off at 8.30 am, based on our current early morning shop activity, there would be very small revenues being gambled on the projected race times."
