Mccoy maintains Roach record.

With Ruby Walsh deciding to stay in Ireland to ride for Willie Mullins, Tony Mccoy found himself attempting to maintain a one hundred per cent 'hit' record for owner Graham roach when he picked up the ride on the Paul Nicholls trained Michel le bon in today's CPG Novice Chase at Newbury.

Mccoy had in the past riddden Viking Flagship and Cornish Set to victory for owner Roach, but he seemed up against it in today's race, as he had to confront former smart hurdler Pettifour. But the latter was already destined for second place when falling two out, and Mccoy kept up his record for Roach when running out a wide margin winner from Bench Warrant in today's informative contest.

Following the success for the Nicholls camp, Michel le bon immediately became the subject of some large gambles for the RSA Chase at the cheltenham Festival.

Riverside Theatre provides crowd with a tremendous performance.

Nicky Hendrson's Riverside Theatre provided the Thursday crowd at Newbury with a wondrful display of jumping and galloping as he easily won his first race over fences in this afternoon's Rooney Hall Beginners Chase.

Accompanied throughout until the last ditch by Lady and Co, the young chaser responded to a reef of rein given to him by partner Barry Gerrity, and from that point on, he galloped away from his rivals, finishing twenty eight lengths clear of runner up Calusa King as he passed the winning post.

Some of the bookmaking firms were so impressed with today's performance, they now make Riverside Theatre the anti post favourite for Cheltenham's Arkle Trophy next March.

Man arrested over Malton arson attack.

The Yorkshire Constabulary will not confirm as to whether the 37 year-old man arrested today in connection with the arson attack which caused the deaths of apprentice jockeys Jamie Kyne and Jan Wilson is the same man they arrested and then bailed in connection with the fire in a three storey block of flats at Norton near Malton earlier this year.

When asked to comment, all a police spokesperson would say iss;

"A 37 year-old man is currently helping us with our enquiries into the events surrounding an arson attack which led to the unlawful deaths of apprentice jockeys Jamie Kyne and Jan Wilson. The man is currently undergoing questioning by detectives involved in the case, but no other details are being released at present."

Mill Chief confirmed for Newbury outing.

Listed by some bookmaking firms as the anti post favourite for next March's JCB Triumph Hurdle at Cheltenham, the Alan King trained Mill Chief looked all over the winner when being brought down on his first outing over hurdles at Huntingdon, and the trainer is hoping his charge will enjoy better luck when he lines up in Friday's Q Associates Juvenile Hurdle at Newbury.

"I was fairly sure Mill Chief would have won his race at Huntingdon, and providing being brought down has not dented his confidence, then he should be thereabouts in tomorrow's race at Newbury. As to whether he is good enough to win a Triumph Hurdle, only time will tell."

Hutchinson picks up Cappa Bleu Hennessy ride.

Trainer Evan Williams has booked jockey Wayne Hutchinson to ride Cappa Bleue in Saturday's Grade 3 Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup. The Welsh handler has indicated he believes Cappa Bleu is better handicapped than his other runner State of Play in the weekend contest, so on the face of it, Hutchinson would appear to have unexpectedly picked up a live chance of winning a major prize.

Conduit given unfavourable outside draw in Japan Cup.

Sir Michael Stoute's inmate and Breeders Cup hero Conduit now has it all to do if he is to add the Japan Cup to his racing career record, for at today's draw for the weekend contest he has been allocated stall 16 of 18.

The Group 1 race is likely to be one of Conduit's last racecourse opportunities before he goes to stud in japan in the new year, and if he can win the notoriously tough contest from his unfavourable draw, then he will almost certainly enhance his already outstanding stud potential.

Wee Robbie to return on Saturday.

Last seen on a racecourse when pulling up in the Racing Post Chase twenty onemonths ago, the Nick Gifford trained nine-year-old Wee Robbie has been sidelined ever since with recurrent leg problems, but Gifford believes he has nursed his gelding back to full fitness ahead of Saturday's outing in the sportingbet.com Handicap Chase at Newbury. But while relieved to get his charge back on the track, Gifford thinks the conditions of Saturday's race are not ideal for a first run after such a long absence,

"It is a competitive event, and being over two and a half miles it may be on the short side for Wee Robbie to be at his best, but to be frank, if he can get a good blow and return sound, I will be happy with that outcome on this occasion."

Somersby to step up to Grade 2.

Henrietta Knight's former smart novice hurdler Somersby showed he has plenty of potential over fences when coming clear in his recent steeplechasing debut at Warwick, and the trainer must have plenty of belief in his ability, for the handler has confirmed Somersby is to run in the Grade 2 Henry VII Novice Chase at Sandown Park on Saturday week.

Irish raiders dominate remaining entries in Fighting Fifth.

After today's forty eight hour entry stage, Nicky Henderson's 2009 Cheltenham Champion Hurdle third placed Binocular and Andy Turnell's dual purpose campaigner Blue Bajan are the only remaining British runners in the seven strong field declared for Saturday's wbx.com Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle.

Malcolm Jefferson decided to withdraw Cape Tribulation as the ground looks likely to be unsuitable for the stayer, while Noel Meade has decided Muirhead will skip his entries in both the Fighting Fifth on Saturday and the Hattons Grace Hurdle at Fairyhouse on Sunday.

The Charles Byrnes trained and very much in form Solwit leads a five strong Irish challenge, and he is joined by 2007 Cheltenham Champion Hurdler Sublimity, John Queally's old campaigner Al Eile, Sabrina Harty's Won in the Dark, while Noel Meade will now rely entirely on 2009 Supreme Novices Hurdle victor Go Native.

Despite missing most of the week following a heavy fall at Aintree on Sunday, Timmy Murphy reports he now feels fine, and he expects to ride at Newbury tomorrow, before travelling on to Newcastle on Saturday for his scheduled mount on Al Eile.

All clear for inspection tracks.

Following respective early morning inspections, the good news is today's fixtures at Uttoxeter in Britain and Thurles in Ireland both go ahead as scheduled.

Uttoxeter report today's going will be 'heavy soft in places', while Thurles will race on 'heavy' going.

With the weather forecast for the next few days looking much better, Fairyhouse have today confirmed they are confident this weekend's Festival Meeting will go ahead as planned.

Sanders Wolverhampton fine over-turned by BHA

In an unusual step, the British Horseracing Authority yesterday asked its own Disciplinary Panel to over-turn a decision by the Wolverhampton stewards to fine Seb Sanders for his riding of Harris Tweed for Sir Mark Prescott at Wolverhampton on 06 November.

The local stewards had fined Sanders for failing to ride out in the Hotel and Conferencing at Wolverhampton Maiden Stakes on the above date, but after reviewing all the visual recordings of the contest, the Disciplinary Panel confirmed Sanders was not in breach of the rules, and his fine was quoshed.
