Doncaster officials belay draw fears.

The track staff at the Doncaster Town Moor Racecourse believe they have managed the track so well over the last few weeks, they expect no bias to be gained by any side in Saturday's Lincoln Handicap.

So the owners ant trainers of the twenty two horses drawn today for the race should not worry as the officials believe if the horse is good enough, the starting position across the Doncaster straight course will be insignificant in determining the outcome of Saturday's race.

Some leading fancies miss the cut.

As expected, a large number of horses stood their ground for Saturday's Lincoln, and with the field limited to a maximum of twenty two runners, leading anti-post fancies; Fireside, Mangham and Extra Terrestial have missed the cut for the Heritage Handicap, and will now have to settle for a run in a less significant race.

Scottish Grand National weights announced.

Although Halcon Genelardais was disappointing in the recent Cheltenham Gold Cup, his runner-up positions in both the most recent Welsh and Scottish Grand Nationals have ensured he carries the top weight of eleven stone twelve pounds in this year's renewal of the two hundred thousand pound Coral Scottish Grand National at Ayr on 18 April.

If the Jim Dreaper trained Notra Pere decides on the Scottish National rather than the Powers Whiskey Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse, he will have to carry eleven stone eleven pounds due to his December victory in the Welsh Grand National.

Meanwhile, last year's Aintree Grand National winner Comply or Die will have to carry ten stone thirteen pounds if he tries to reverse his recent poor form in this year's Ayr centre-piece.

It has been twenty seven years since there has been a Scottish winner of Scotland's richest race, but based on his Tote Eider performance at Newcastle earlier this year, Alan Parker's Merigo's weight of nine stone nine pounds, puts him one pound inside his handicap mark, and if the weights remain the same up until race day, he must have a tremendous chance to return the prize into Scottish hands.

O'Regan gets definitive answer.

Following the results of an MRI scan, a jubilant Dennis O'Regan has been informed by his surgeon, he has no damage to the vertabrae in his back, and he has been given the good news he can return to the saddle on Tuesday 31 March.

This good news ensures the jockey can now take the ride on the Dessie Hughes trained Black Apilachi in the Aintree Grand National on 04 April.

Fallon gives in depth interview.

Ex champion jockey Kieran Fallon is due to return from his three year drugs ban in September of this year, and in an in-depth interview on Radio 5 this evening, he indicates he would like to keep riding for another five years, during which time he would attempt to recapture the champion jockey's title at least once.

Stoute delighted with Kingsgate arrival.

As Kingsgate Native appeared to be drawing a blank in his stud career, owners Chevely Park Stud have decided to return the four your old to racing. Consequently, they have chosen Sir Michael Stoute to further the dual Group One winner's career.

Sir Michael has not had a top sprinter since Green Desert, and he is said to be genuinely thrilled at the prospect of having a sprinting star back in his yard.

Based on information coming out of Sir Michael's Newmarket stables, Kingsgate Native will first be aimed at the Group One prizes on offer at Royal Ascot in June.

Head hopeful Marchand D'or will 'get down' in dirt.

Freddie Head is hopeful leading european sprinter Marchand D'or will have no difficulty in transferring his form from grass to the dirt surface he faces in Saturday's Golden Shaheen at the Dubai World Cup meeting. Indeed, Head is reported to have said,

"I am not so worried about the surface as the fact he is not the greatest traveller, and the latter point is my biggest worry with regard to him reproducing his european form".

Hannon not impressed with draw.

Richard Hannon already new Paco Boy would be at the limits of his stamina in Saturday's Dubai Duty Free at Nad al Sheeba, but now an unfavourable draw has made the trainer pessimistic as to the chances of his four year old winning the Group One contest.

Albertus Maximus in training gallop.

Hammden al Maktoum seems to own the 'one to beat' in Saturday's Dubai World Cup, for in a training gallop yesterday his Albertus Maximus had several trainers gasping at his effortless speed. The son of Albert the Great is already the favourite for a somewhat below par competition for the world's richest race, but any undecided punters watching yesterday's gallop would probably risk a wager even at a small price.

Godolphin announce retirement of forgotten horse Halabek.

Halabek, a son of Haling, would probably have won the 2006 Derby had he not jinked in the final furlong and had to settle for a very close fourth behind Sir Percy. But after that high spot, he suffered major injury problems, and was not seen again on a race track until returning to win a Conditions event at Nottingham during the 2008 flat season.

However, Godolphin have now decided the constant battle against injury problems is not in the best interests of the horse, and after only three competitive races in total, he is to be retired to stud.

Winston to ride for Best.

Robert Winston has been retained to ride as stable jockey for the John Best operation. In effect, Winston will ride the majority of horses being sent out by the stable during the coming flat season, but will have to stand aside on the odd occasion were a specific owner has a designated jockey.
