For this Sunday's 1,000 Guineas Trial Stakes at Leopardstown, it is understood the three year old filly will be joined by stable mates Empress of France, and the 'rookie' Totally Devoted. The O'Brien horses are likely to face stiff competition from several other yards. Dermot Weld is planning to have a trio of runners including; Firey Red, who finished second in last Sunday's Park Express Stakes, plus stable mates Dance Pass and Luminous Eyes. While David Watchman has What's Up Pussycat, and Group 3 winner Chintz as potential entries. But Jim Bolger is only currently intending to run former Group 3 winner Maoineach in Sunday's race. Nicholls may seek more gold at Punchestown.After the Cheltenham Festival, Paul Nicholls indicated Kauto Star would probably be put away for a solid preparation at winning next year's Cheltenham Gold Cup, but the stable star is reported to be in such fine fettle, if ground conditions at Punchestown are suitable, Nicholls is considering running Kauto Star in the Guinness Gold Cup on 29 April. Yesterday, after continued pain, he underwent an MRI scan on his back at Middlesborough General Hospital, but following discussions with a surgeon, O'Regan is hopeful he has not damaged any of the vertabrae in his back, and therefore, he should be fit enough to ride leading fancy Black Apilachi in this year's Aintree Grand National.
