Again just gets the better of Lahaleeb in Guineas.

If you look down this list of stories to this mornings comments on the Irish 1,000 Guineas, we indicated shrewd judges thought Lahaleeb cwould be the main rival to favourite Again, and so it proved.

One and a half furlongs from the finish, the front running Oh Goodness Me was collared by Lahaleeb, and as Mick Channon's filly went on, she looked for a moment like she had too much for favourite Again, but Johnnie Murtagh got to work on David Wachman's three year old, and gradually she pegged Lahaleeb back, finally getting on top with around forty yards to go.

While the result gave Murtagh an Irish Guineas double, based on the one furlong from home positions in today's Classic, if the seven furlong Jersey Stakes at Royal Ascot were to come up soft, Lahaleeb would be a 'good thing'.

All the way win for Casual Conquest.

DermotWeld's Casual Conquest secured his first Group 1 victory with an all the way win in this afternoon's Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh. Ridden cleverly by Pat Smullen, the four year old controlled the pace from the front, and ran on strongly over the final two furlongs, scoring by five lengths from stable mate Famous Name, with Lush Lashes back in third position.

Delegator could revert to Group 1 sprint.

After his poor performance in yesterday's Irish 2,000 Guineas, Brian Meehan is reported to be considering reverting Delegator to sprint distances, with a possible tilt at the six furlong Group 1 July Cup at Newmarket apparently under consideration.

Costello gets four day ban for near brawl.

Having squared up to fellow jockey Dennis O'Regan after the last race at Cartmel on Saturday evening, an incident witnessed by at least one steward in the Cartmel weighing room, jockey Dougie Costello picked up a four day ban for ungentlemanlly conduct, the ban to run from 06 to 09 June inclusive.

Hannon rules out Chantilly and Royal Ascot.

Discussing Soul City's third placed run in yesterday's Boylesports Irish 2,000 Guineas, veteran trainer Richard Hannon said,

"He will have needed the run yesterday, and he may need a longer trip next time out. We could go to Chantilly for the French Derby, but we would have to supplement him, and that practically rules it out as an option".

We could go for the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot, but he is a round actioned horse, and the ground at Ascot could be too firm, besides, he would probably have to come up against Mastercraftsman again, and I am not keen on that idea".

"The most likely option is a break, followed by a race in France over nine or ten furlongs".

Scoop Six rolling on.

Yesterday's Scoop Six Win Fund was turned into a roll over following the failure of the five remaining punters to pick the winner of the fifth leg. Meanwhile, the anonymous £2 punter, who had won the Win Fund last week, failed to win yesterday's Bonus Fund when his selection Proclaim could only finish fourth. This means next week's roll-over Win Fund is £78,369, while the roll-over Bonus Fund will start on £158,992.

Again popular with punters.

With the able assistance of Irish 2,000 Guineas winning jockey Johnnie Murtagh, the David Wachman trained Again is this morning a very popular choice amongst the punters.

However, several shrewd judges are suggesting, with a proven liking for soft going, the Mick Channon trained Lahaleeb may be the only filly in the field who could upset the odds on the gambled on Again.

Zenyatta keeps her unbeaten record.

Despite not having appeared on a race track since winning last October's Breeders Cup Mares race at Santa Anita, Zenyatta showed no signs of being rusty in Saturday's M'Lady Handicap at Hollywood Park. Anchored at the back of the pack on the final bend, she sliced through her field with an irresistible run in the closing stages, going on to win by a length and three quarters from stable mate Life Is Sweet.

The wonder mare has now clocked up her tenth straight win in an unbeaten career, and on this first run in the current season, it will take a very good filly to stop her winning any of her targeted races in 2009.
