World Hurdle now an option for White Oak.
Bouncing back to form with a seven length win, 2008 David Nicholson Mares Hurdle winner White Oak tore away from her rivals after the last in today's Starlight Childrens Foundation Mares Hurdle at Kempton Park, and immediately, connections indicated the Ladbrokes World Hurdle back at Cheltenham next March would probably be the mare's main target for the season.
Irish raiders dominate remaining Fighting Fifth entry.
After today's five day decleration stage, two thirds of the remaining nine entries in Saturday's Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle eminate from the Emerald Isle. The challenge is spearheaded by recent Punchestown Morgiana Hurdle first and second Solwit and Muirhead. The former has been in truly unbeatable form in his last five races, and it is possible Solwit's trainer Charles Byrnes is eyeing the million pound bonus offered by wbx.com to the winner of the Fighting Fifth Hurdle if he can then go on to win Kempton's Christmas Hurdle and the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle next March. Meanwhile, Muirhead has already stepped up on his juvenile form with his second in the Morgiana, and there could be further improvement to come from his proposed second run at Newcastle.
All of the other Irish raiders also have winning claims off their best form. Sublimity was second to Cheltenham Champion Hurdler Punjabi in last year's Fighting Fifth Hurdle when it was run at Wetherby, and old-boy Al Eile is a former winner of the Newcastle hurdling centrepiece. Although disappointing on his last outing, 2009 Supreme Novices Hurdle winner Go Native could return to form if the going at Newcastle avoids any further rain during the week, and while Won in the Dark would appear to be the Irish outsider, he does have form to suggest he could figure in the shake-up if running up to his best.
Of the three British challengers, Nicky Henderson's Cheltenham Champion Hurdle third Binocular appears to have the best home based chance. While Andy Turnells dual purpose challenger Blue Bajan would appear to have better place credentials than Malcolm Jefferson's Cape Tribulation.
Denman heads bumper fieled for Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup.
After today's latest entry stage for Saturday's Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup, the on-going inclusion of 2007 race winner Denman means only seventeen of the remaining entries are within their current handicap mark.
Denman's 11 stone 12 pounds puts him twelve pounds ahead of second top weight Joe Lively, the latter currently allocated 11 stone exactly. Venetia Williams's Grand National winner Mon Mome is then next in the list off 10 stone 13 pounds. While Roll along and Denman's stable mate My Will have to carry 10 stone 9 pounds each.
Three horses who look attractively treated if repeating their best form are; Her Majesty the Queen's Barber Shop - 10 stone 8 pounds, and also Howard Johnson's Killyglen and Mouse Morris's former Cheltenham Gold Cup winner War of Attrition - both of 10 stone 6 pounds.
Of the lower weighted horses, Grade One winning Irish raider Casey Jones looks very attractively weighted if the going at Newbury were to improve during the latter part of the week.
Although there are minimal major withdrawals, Tim Vaughn has decided Atouchbetweenacara has not had sufficient time to settle at his stable, and he has therefore pulled his new acquisition from Saturday's race.
Gowran Park cautious reminder.
While Gowran Park's postponed Saturday fixture is due to be held tomorrow afternoon, (Tuesday 24 November 2009), course officials have today issued a note of caution. For if the latest weather forecast proves to be correct, the current 'heavy' going could face another overnight soaking, and as a precaution an inspection of the course at 8.00 am tomorrow morning has now been arranged.
Head confirms Goldikova will go for treble.
After talks with her owners, trainer Freddie Head has today confirmed 'super miler' Goldikova will stay in training for one more year, and if all goes according to plan, she will go back to America next November with the intention of gaining a record breaking third success in the Breeders Cup Mile.
Monet's Garden to be prepared for the Spring.
After failing to show his best form in last Saturday's Grade 2 Amlin 1965 Chase at Ascot, Monet's Garden is to have a rest, and will not defend his Peterborough Chase title at Huntingdon in December.
Turning twelve years of age on 01 January, Trainer Nicky Richards has indicated time might be catching up with his dual Aintree Old Roan Chase winner, so after a rest, a spring campaign, including a possible run at Kelso in slightly lower company may be on the agenda.
Shining Gale out for season.
Shining Gale's win at Haydock Park on Saturday now looks all the better after trainer Charlie Mann revealed he probably broke a pedal bone at the second fence of Saturday's contest, and while Mann is obviously disappointed this probably means his young chaser will miss the rest of this season, he is also very happy there is no permanent damage, and Shining Gale will return to action in the 2010 2011 season.
Step up in trip proposed for Mr Thriller.
Although no definite target has yet been selected, David Pipe has confirmed Mr Thriller will be stepped up in trip following Saturday's run-in victory over Starluck at Haydock Park.
"He obviously needs further, and although we have not decided on a definite target, Mr Thriller will certainly be stepped up in distance for his next outing."
Meanwhile, Alan Fleming blamed the Haydock going for Starluck's defeat, but regardless, he confirmed his second year juvenile will now head to the Grade One Christmas Hurdle on Boxing Day at Kempton Park.
Pertemps Hurdle ultimate objective for Lie Forrit.
The Willie Amos trained Lie Forrit has proved himself one of the fastest improving hurdlers in training, and following on from his recent win at Cheltenham's Paddy Power meeting, the Scottish trained battler is to head to Newbury this Friday with the intention of adding the Pertemps Hurdle Qualifier to his portfolio. Discussing his charge, Amos said,
"If he keeps on improving, the Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival is not out of the question, but first we must see how he goes in the qualifier this Friday."
Murphy hoping to be back for the weekend.
Having suffered suspected concussion following a fall from Bible Lord at Aintree on Sunday, jockey Timmy Murphy has indicated he is hoping to be back in action at Newbury this coming weekend.
Beverley racecourse announce 'In Memorrium' scholarship.
In memory of Jamie Kyne and Jan Wilson, the two young apprentices tragically lost in a Malton fire earlier this year, officials at Beverley racecourse have today confirmed they are to finance a 'In Memorrium' scholarship which will be available to Yorkshire based apprentice jockeys.
All interested parties should note, full details on the Jamie Kyne and Jan Wilson Scholarship are available from Beverley racecourse.
Dreaper still seeking answer to Notra Pere flop.
Jim Dreaper admits he is still at a loss to explain Notra Pere's dismal performance in Saturday's Betfair Chase at Haydock Park. The Welsh Grand National and Guinness Gold Cup winner dropped out of contention down the back straight on the final circuit, and eventually trailed in a distant fifth behind Kauto Star and Imperial Commander.
In all his interviews since Saturday's race, Dreaper has made it known he believes the run to be too bad to be true, and connections are now keeping a close eye on Notra Pere during the coming week, in the belief some reason for the poor run will manifest itself during his regular training sessions.
