Arcarno scores as Canford Cliffs looks ordinary.
It would be fair to say Canford Cliffs never looked like the anti post favourite for the Newmarket 2,000 Guineas during his run in today's Prix Morny at Deauville, and although Brian Meehan's July Stakes winner Arcarno only landed the race by a head, Richard Hannon's odds on race favourite could only finish third as he failed to reproduce anything like his Coventry Stakes run in today's Group 1 contest.
Anywway, the margin of victory was fairly irrelevant, for Arcarno seemed to have plenty in hand, while Canford Cliffs was being asked serious questions from about a furlong out.
If this is genuine form, and not a one race abberation, then Arcarno deserves to be the anti post favourite for the 2010 Stan James sponsered 2,000 Guineas.
Schiaparelli gains easy victory in Prix Kergorlay.
Godolphin's Goodwood Cup victor Schiaparelli never had to work up a sweat to land the three runner one mile seven furlong Prix Kergorlay at Deauville. Taken straight into the lead from the start, Frankie Dettori set the pace on his proven stayer, and it turned into a virtual training session as the 1/5 favourite eased his way round for a clear victory.
Silver Grecian Champagne hopes given a boost.
With Shakesperian winning the Solario Stakes at Sandown, and Big Audio landing the Stonehenge Stakes at Salisbury, it is important to remember the pair were well behind John Ryan's Silver Grecian in the Salutation Stakes at Newmarket's July Meeting, so it is not suprising Ryan is very hopeful his charge will put in a very effective performance in the Champagne Stakes at Doncaster on 12 September. Talking about the weekend events, Ryan commented,
"Shakesperian and Big Audio really boosted our fellow's form, but without sounding over confident, we expect him to do well in the Champagne Stakes, because our real target is the Dewhurst Stakes back at Newmarket, and if we are going to win that race, he will have to win at Doncaster."
Windsor date for Kingdom of Fife.
Last seen just losing out to Cambridgeshire favourite Sirvino in the John Smiths Cup at York, Her Majesty the Queen's Kingdon of Fife is to make his pattern race debut in next weekend's Toteswinger Winter Hill Stakes at Windsor.
It is understood Sir Michael Stoute believes the three year old is a very progressive type, and with the trainer's knack of picking the right kind of races for horses of this nature, it is hard to believe Kingdon of Fife will be far away from being victorious in next weekend's contest.
Cork gets go ahead after inspection.
Despite already having heavy ground at Cork Mallow racecourse, overnight rain has not exsasabated the situation, and following an early morning inspection, today's racing goes ahead as planned.
Anonymous punter racks up half a million.
The Anonymous Coral betting shop punter who last week landed over three hundred and fifty thousand pounds when his £2 stake secured the Win Fund in the Totesport Scoop Six, yesterday added £150,541 thanks to a typically determined ride by Frankie Dettori on Fanjura in the David Hewitt Heritage Handicap at Sandown Park.
Although wishing to remain anonymous, the lucky punter had this to say to Totesport representatives,
“I'm now a rich man and all for £2 thanks to the totescoop6. I still can't believe I won last week so I'm in total shock now. I nearly went for Antinori but Frankie knows when he’s got a good horse under him and it showed.’
‘It really has changed my life forever as my mother isn’t well and I now can give her what she deserves. I’d like to extend my thanks to everyone at the Tote for giving me the opportunity to have some quality and fun in my life."
Blue Jack’s victory in the Life Build Handicap at Sandown saw the totescoop6 won for the second consecutive weekend and it was the second win this year for the Elite Racing Club’s Saturday Six Club.
A total of £215,644 was bet into yesterday's pool, but there was only one winning ticket which staked £9,600 and they now go forward to next weekend where they could boost their winnings to over £100,000 as the bonus fund now starts at £32,346.
Kingsgate Native may be aimed at Prix de L'abbaye.
Connections are putting Kingsgate Native's sixth place in the York Nunthorpe Stakes down to a minor hoof injury he suffered during his win in Goodwood's Audi Stakes, and to ensure he has sufficient time to heal, he will not take part in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock Park in early September.
However, connections are hopeful he will be fit in time for the Prix de L'Abbaye on Arc day at Longchamp in October.
Callan likely to keep ride on Borderlescot.
Pat Cosgrave, who was the regular jockey aboard Borderlescot up to last Friday at York, has admitted Neil Callan is likely to keep the ride on the Nunthorpe victor after his superbly timed winning run. In a recent interview, Cosgrave said,
"Robin Bastiman thought Borderlescot needed a change of rider to fresshen him up, and after Neil rode him so successfully, he is likely to keep the ride for the foreseeable future, and as a professional jockey, I just have to take such decisions on the chin."
Following the Nunthorpe success, trainer Robin Bastiman is hopeful this second successive victory in the York Group 1 will earn Borderlescot an invitation to compete in this year's Cathay Pacific Sprint in Hong Kong.
"He has now proved he is a super sprinter, and I would like to think he will be invited to participate in Hong Kong, and if so, the way he is running at present, I would give him every chance of figuring in the finish of the Cathay Pacific."
Owen and Dascomb both have successful day.
With Tom Dascomb soon to take over at Michael Owen's Manor House purpose built stables at Malpas in Cheshire, it was probably a timely day for both men to show their prowess. Indeed, Owen scored his first goal for Manchester United during his team's five nil drubbing of Wigan, while Dascomb showed his training ability by having Bertoliver win the first race at Chester before his Ruler of my heart landed a Listed contest at Deauville.
As both men seem to be winners, their intended racing partnership has the potential to become a great success, and based on current form, we would not bet against it!
