Voy Por Ustedes confirmed as Order of Merit winner.

Although assured of the prize, Sir Robert Ogden's Voy Por Ustedes has today been confirmed as the winner of the two hundred thousand pound first prize awarded to the top point scorer in the 2008 2009 national hunt Order of Merit.

Good day out for Possol.

The 660 mile round trip from Henry Daly's stables in Shropshire to Perth will not seem so long this evening, for Possol made a profitable outing as he landed today's stanjames.com Festival Chase, securing the thirty five thousand pound first prize for the return journey.

Speaking after watching his horse win by twenty two lengths from Ollie Macgern, trainer Henry Daly said,

"He has had a good season apart from his last race, but in hindsight I think he failed to show his true potential in the William Hill Trophy as it came too soon after a hard race in the Racing Post Chase.

I suppose we will put him away for the summer now, but based on today's effort, I would like to get him back in time for the Hennessy in the autumn".

Goldstein to be assessed at specialist hospital.

Conditional jockey Mark Goldstein, who suffered a double fracture of the joint area of his pelvis during a fall at Fakenham on Easter Monday, is to be assessed at a specialist hospital in London this Saturday. Originally taken to Kings Lynn Hospital, he was transferred to East Sussex Hospital earlier in the week, but doctors now wish to obtain expert opinion on how his injury should be treated so as to ensure the best possible outcome.

Nichols delighted with Bet 365 pair.

In an interview this morning, Paul Nicholls expressed his total satisfaction with the condition and fitness of Hoo La Baloo and New Little Brick ahead of Saturday's Bet 365 Gold Cup at Sandown Park. Although the race has been the long term target for Hoo La Baloo, Nicholls has been suprised with the progress made by New Little Brick since his win at Newbury in February, and he now expects both horses to put in good performances in Saturday's race.

Masterminded supplemented as going could be suitable.

Paul Nicholls has confirmed owner Jim Smith has supplemented Cheltenham Champion Chaser Masterminded for next week's Kerrygold Champion Chase at the first day of the Punchestown Festival. With rain forecast to fall over Ireland before the start of the five day national hunt extravaganza, connections are confident ground conditions will be ideal for their top rated chaser to gain another Grade 1 success.

Cooper undecided over Pady target.

Thomas Cooper has still to make up his mind as to whether to potentially commit Forpadydeplasterer to a head to head with Masterminded in the Kerrygold Champion Chase, or whether his Arkle Chase winner should compete against his peers in the Kathal Ryan Memorial Chase on next Thursday's card at Punchestown. It is understood Cooper will confer with connections, and a decision will be made no later than Sunday.

Novice Hurdle decider is back on!

Subject to no last minute hitches, Willie Mullins has now confirmed Hurrican Fly will face Go Native in the Novice Champion Hurdle at next week's Punchestown Festival. It was known Hurrican Fly had an entry in the Tattersalls Gold Cup on the flat, and after his bone shint injury, it was thought Mullins might take the flat option for his unbeaten novice hurdler, but it now seems we will be able to watch the top two novices go head to head in next week's Punchestown novice hurdle championship race.

Barber Shop still on line for Guinness run.

Nicky Henderson feels the recent rain in Ireland has made it more likely the Queen's Barber Shop will take his place in next week's Guinness Gold Cup at Punchestown. The seven year old was last seen finishing in seventh place in the Cheltenham Gold Cup, and it was thought that would be his last run of the season, but the Punchestown race on suitable ground is obviously an attractive and potentially winnable prize for the royal runner.

Budapest Bullet to be based with Perrett.

While he is competing in britain, Hungarian superstar sprinter Overdose will be based with trainer Amanda Perrett at her Coombelands Racing Stables at Pulborough. The Budapest Bullett has a string of twelve successive victories to his credit, and while in this country he is due to compete in; the Betfred Temple Stakes at Haydock Park, one or both of the Kings Stand Stakes and Golden Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot, and the July Cup at Newmarket.

Southwell Clerk of the Course hiding blushes.

Rodrick Duncan is a man trying to hide his blushes this morning, for the Southwell Clerk of the Course supplied Weatherby's with the wrong distances for the seven races of yesterday's card, and only realised his mistake when looking at the published information in yesterday's Racing Post.

Although we sympathise with his plight, it is likely Southwell could well face a caution and fine from the BHA.

Kite Wood impresses in Newmarket gallop.

Frankie Dettori gave Godolphin's Derby hope Kite Wood a full gallop on the Newmarket Lime Kilns yesterday, and according to witnesses, he was very impressive, and now seems all set to compete in the Dante Stakes at York next month.

For those of you who keep a notebook, another impressive galloper yesterday morning was Sovereign Remedy, and he might be worth a flutter on his seasonal debut.

Hayley starts work riding and considers appeal.

Hayley Turner started working horses for Michael Bell at Newmarket yesterday, and she feels so confident about her fitness, she is said to be considering an appeal against the medical ban which enforces her sidelined status from race riding until next March.

Change of emphasis for Bush Ranger.

Trainer David Watchman has confirmed his Group 1 Middle Park winner Bush Ranger will not compete in the 2,000 Guineas, and will instead concentrate on a sprint career during the remainder of the current flat season.

Chester auction for Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre.

The Thoroughbred Rehabilitation Centre is holding a summer lunch and auction at Chester racecourse on Thursday 23 July, with a major prize in the auction of a visit to Michael Owen's state of the art Manor House horse training centre in Cheshire, along with use of the Owen's private box at Chester racecourse. Tickets and information on the event are available from the organisation's website.

Although as a racing man myself, I applaud the work footballer Michael Owen does for this wonderful horse racing charity, but as a long suffering life long Newcastle fan, I would also like him to score a few winning goals before the end of this current season!

Bookies take a blow in the budget.

Racing as a whole did not suffer too badly as a result of yesterday's budget, but the bookmaking firms are smarting over the above inflation nine point one per cent increase in the annual license fee for their in-shop gaming machines. With the annual fee rising from £2,030 up to £2,215, the firms will have to fork out an estimated extra five point five five million to the exchequer. So it is a fair bet, the Chancellor will not be receiving christmas cards off the bookmaking firms this year.

Twelve year old Burgundy no longer with us.

Burgundy was one of the select group of race horses who managed over one hundred races during his career, but sadly, crippling arthritis had made his life a painful hell at the Moorcroft Racehorse Welfare Centre, and staff made the reluctant decision to end the twelve year old's life earlier this week - At times like these, all we can say is, so long Burgundy, and thanks for the memories.
