Oh Goodness Me an unexpected winner. The good thing about horse racing is the horses are not aware of who is the red hot favourite for any particular race, and although today's Curragh punters had made last season's impressive filly Mad About You a red hot thirty to one hundred favourite for today's Park Express Stakes, they were in for a major shock. The writing was on the wall at the furlong post when the Dermot Weld trained Mad About You started to falter, and was passed by stable mate Firey Red and the Jim Bolger trained Oh Goodness Me. The latter two went on, with the twelve to one Oh Goodness Me prevailing by a short head in a photo finish. Having put this Group Three under her belt, trainer Bolger now has a problem, " I now have to make my mind up between the Musadora Stakes, or a potential run in either the Irish or English 1,000 Guineas". Pollen carries Lordan to hard earned victory. When Estrela Brage slipped his field at the furlong post in today's Irish Lincolnshire, it seemed he had made a decisive and winning move, but jockey Wayne Lordan aboard the hard chasing Pollen had other ideas. Without panic, Lordan continued to urge Pollen to greater efforts, and his mount responded, eating up the ground to the leader, and then getting up to to wrest the spoils by a head on the line. The race favourite Designated Decoy could only manage a rather disappointing third. Zaralanta justifies favouritism.Although drawn sixteen of sixteen runners in today's newmarketracecourse.co.uk Maiden, the John Oxx trained Zaralanta proved herself worthy of favouritism at today's Curragh opener to the flat season in Ireland. Cleverly moved across to the inside running rail by experienced jockey Mick Kinane, the filly travelled strongly throughout, and readily extended when asked to win the race by three lengths from the Jim Bolger trained BBuiochas Mor A new King makes a winning initial appearance.King Ledley was an impressive winner of the Tallyho Stud EBF Maiden at the start of today's proceedings at the Curragh. Always amongst the leaders, the Kevin Prendergast trained two year old kicked clear at the one furlong point of today's five furlong contest, and with jockey Declan McDonagh just keeping him up to his work, he extended to win by four and a half lengths from runner up Chelsea Lately. Based on today's performance, he should go on to better things during the upcoming flat season. Denman could face Nacarat challenge. The connections of Racing Post Chase victor Nacarat deliberately by-passed the Cheltenham Festival in favour of a run on the flat course at Aintree, but according to trainer Tom George, they are now considering the option of facing Denman over three miles in the Totesport Bowl on 02 April, or to use Nacarat's obvious speed over the two mile four furlong distance of the Melling Chase on 03 April. The trainer seems to think Nacarat would only face Denman over three miles if the ground conditions were suited to speed rather than stamina, so the Melling Chase remains the more likely option at present. Brittain confidence could be well placed.Veteran trainer Clive Brittain is not known for his lack of confidence, so it is not suprising he believes yesterday's Spring Cup winner Nashmiah could be good enough to get into the frame in the Newmarket 1,000 Guineas. But bearing in mind the trainer has prepared two previous Newmarket Fillies Classic winners, plus, after yesterday's Lingfield win, jockey Jamie Spencer stated he believes the three year old filly is very progressive, when these factors are added to Nashmiah's obvious scope to develop, then she could be a leading contender for the Classic at the end of May. Punchestown date for Mister Wall Street.Ferdy Murphy's Mister Wall Street was an impressive winner of yesterday's National Hunt Flat Race at Haydock Park, and the trainer has confirmed he will go straight to the Goffs Land Rover Champion Bumper, due to take place on 28 February at the Punchestown Festival. Speaking after the four year old's ten length win, Murphy commented, "He is a progressive sort we obtained from the Breeze Up Sales, and we suspect there is plenty more to come, so we are hopeful of a good run at Punchestown". No firm plans for Scintillo.Although the Richard Hannon trained Scintillo secured his second win in a week when winning yesterday's Winter Derby at Lingfield Park, Richard Hannon jnr has confirmed there are no fixed plans for the coming flat season. In an interview this morning, the trainer's son indicated his father would talk to connections in the next couple of weeks, and only then would a proposed schedule be agreed. Flintoff next run determined by ground conditions.Paul Beck, who owns Midlands Grand National runner up Flintoff in partnership with England cricketer Andrew Flintoff, is very happy their horse has only been raised four pounds by the handicapper following his Uttoxeter run. Taking into his new handicap mark, Beck is indicating Flintoff will next run in either the Irish or Scottish Grand Nationals, and the deciding factor will be the ground conditions. "The poor fella keeps ending up as the runner up, but he has yet to get his preferred soft ground, and the decision on which national he competes in will be dependant on him getting the soft ground he so desperately needs to show his best". Scoop Six rolls over to next Saturday.Ony three tickets survived to the fith round of yesterday's Scoop Six, but a sixteen to one winner prevented any winning tickets surviving into the last leg of yesterday's bet. This means a roll over fund of one hundred and eighty four thousand two hundred and forty pounds will be the starting point for next Saturday's Scoop Six Win Fund.
