Hayley becomes a Coral pundit.

Coral have announced this afternoon, sidelined lady jockey Hayley Turner is to be a pundit on their in-house television channel. This means Coral punters will have the pleasant picture of Hayley giving them tips and advice for at least the next nine months, a move which will certainly help Coral to attract more punters to their shops and on-line facilities.

Meehan bullish about duo.

In an interview this morning Brian Meehan confidently predicted Delegator was the horse to beat in this year's Newmarket 2,000 Guineas. The trainer believes Delegator's demolition of his rivals in the Craven Stakes is the tip of the iceberg, and based on his training gallop antics, the race has taken little out of his progressive three year old.

Talking about Crowded House, Meehan indicated he was not just interested in the Epsom Derby, but would like to set out a programme which would enable his charge to get to Santa Anita in top form for this year's Breeders Cup.

Murtagh will wait on next run from Black Bear Island.

Johnnie Murtagh reports he was delighted with Fame and Glory's win in yesterday's Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown, and he is confident the colt could go on to victory in the Epsom Derby, but before he chooses Fame and Glory as his mount for the Classic, he wants to see how Black Bear Island performs in his next outing.

The latter was the stable's 'talking horse' before his recent third in France, but connections feel he did not get the ground or race conditions which could have enabled him to show his true potential, and his Derby credentials could be better displayed in his next outing - which could be the Dante Stakes at York.

Meanwhile, stable information suggests Fame and Glory will have his next run in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at the Curragh.

Top weights pull out to leave twenty three.

At today's five day declaration stage, Snoopy Loopy, Halcon Genelardais and Notra Pere have all been withdrawn from the entrants for the Bet 365 Chase at Sandown on Saturday.

Roll Along currently heads the weights, but if as expected he withdraws, Darkness could well be the top weight for the Grade 3 contest. Among the other possible entries are; the Paul Nicholls pair of Hoo La Baloo and New Little Brick, Irish Grand National runner up Church Island, Sandown specialist Lacdoudal, According To John, who was a late withdrawal from the Scottish National, while Jeremy Scott has also decided to leave Saturday's Scottish Grand National runner up Gone To Lunch in the mix for the Gold Cup's large purse.

Long running disagreement resolved!

After three days of almost constant and protracted negotiations, Betfred and Turf TV have at long last agreed a deal which will enable the bookmaker to carry Turf TV coverage in its betting shops.

Betfred had refused to come on board in the early days of Turf TV coverage of the thirty one unaligned racecourses, and then both sides got themselves into entrenched positions, and an agreement seemed unlikely. The fact a deal was signed at 5.00 am this morning, is not just a victory for both companies, it is also a victory for the punters and racing industry in general.

Epsom seeking a 'White Knight' for Derby.

When Vodafone pulled out of sponsorship of the two day Derby meeting, Epsom, which is part of Jockey Club Racecourses, could not have envisioned the difficulty they would have in obtaining a sponsor for arguably the world's most famous race, and yet, here we are with less than two months to go, and the race does not have a sponsor.

Certainly, economic circumstances currently preclude many firms from putting scarce financial resources into the single promotion of the Derby, but we refuse to believe one of the major bookmaking firms could not use some of the large profit made from the Aintree and Fairyhouse Grand Nationals to obtain the kudos that accrues from being the sponsor of the Epsom Derby.

Irrespective of the six figure loss Jockey Club Racecourses will suffer if a sponsor cannot be found, the main point is the race may lose its credibility amongst owners, and if good horses do not compete for the Derby prize, it becomes less attractive to the general public, and the racing industry loses spectators for one of its crown jewels, just when we are trying to attract more people back into racing.

Pop Murphy to test Derby credentials at Epsom.

Karl Burke's Pop Murphy is currently an outsider for the Epsom Derby, but his handler has been very impressed with his pre-season work, and he is looking forward to giving his charge the opportunity to prove himself on the Epsom track when he competes this coming Wednesday in the Blue Ribbon Trial.

Jockey to be sidelined for several weeks.

Conditional jockey Robert Lucey Butler learnt today he has suffered a broken ankle as a result of a five horse pile up at Wincanton on Sunday. The injury is not complicated, and Butler hopes to be back in the saddle after several weeks of rest and recouperation.

Channon claims more to come from Lahaleeb.

Following the last gasp victory of his Lahaleeb in Saturday's Fred Darling Stakes, Mick Channon claimed his rags to riches filly is still progressing, and he expects her to show even more over the extra furlong of the 1,000 Guineas.

Mick has never been short of a positive word for his horses, but it has to be admitted Lahaleeb has never stopped improving, so a win in a Classic is not beyond the realms of possibility.

Mooresbridge the next target for Kargali.

John Oxx was very happy with Kargali's two length win in yesterday's Heritage Handicap at Leopardstown, and the trainer has confirmed his charge will now take on better opposition over a longer trip in the Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh in a fortnight.
