Frankie helps Jimmy Styles to grab the Gold.
Unlike the Bronze and Silver Cups, the effect of the draw was less noticeable in the final result of today's Ayr Gold Cup. Although the low drawn horses held sway until the furlong pole, with race favourite Evens and Odds and the well supported Advanced in contention at that point, it was the middle drawn horses Jimmy Styles, Barney Mcgrew, and to a lesser extent Knot In Wood, who made the significant late progress.
Half a furlong from the line it looked as if Barney Mcgrew would put last week's poor Doncaster performance behind him by landing today's Ayr centrepiece, but Frankie Dettori drove Jimmy Styles up alongside, and just got his mount's head in front where it mattered.
Top weight Knot In Wood ran on well for third place, with race favourite Evens and Odds having to settle for fourth.

Frankie Dettori completed a high profile double when riding Godolphin's Prince Siegfried to victory in a later Listed ten furlong contest on today's Ayr card.
Strike The Deal continues progress.
Triple Aspect may have been the red hot favourite in today's Group 3 Dubai Duty Free World Trophy, but it was the very progressive Strike The Deal who showed his win at Doncaster last week was no fluke, for under a patient ride from Kieran Fallon he made eyecatching late progress to collar long time leader Total Gallery in the last half furlong of today's five furlong contest at Newbury.
Richard Hannon would also be pleased JJ the Jetplane ran on for third place after two very disappointing runs on his last two outings.
Almiqdaad gives Jarvis a tonic.
Trainer Michael Jarvis is currently recovering from heart by-pass surgery, and he obtained the perfect tonic today when his Almiqdaad held off the renewed challenge of Drunken Sailor to land the John Smith sponsered ten furlong handicap at Newbury.
Distinctive lands shock Firth of Clyde success.
Distinctive may have been a 33/1 outsider in the Group 3 Firth of Clyde Fillies Stakes at Ayr, but she won like a good thing, showing a tremendous turn of foot in the last furlong when scoring by three lengths from long time leader Midnight Martini, with Astrophysicaljet running on for third place.
Awzaan pretty awesome in Mill Reef.
Trainer Mark Johnston seems to have found himself another two year old stable star in the form of the compact but talented juvenile Awzaan, but two furlongs out in today's six furlong Mill Reef Stakes it looked as if race favourite Radio Head would prevail as he cruised up to the lead. However, Brian Meehan's Norfolk Stakes winner found absolutely nothing when asked to quicken, and instead, it was left to Richard Hills on Awzaan to show an excellent turn of foot.
The race was over as a contest inside the final furlong, but Angel's Pursuit and the free sweating Quarrel ran on well to fill the minor honours.
Low drawn horses dominate again in Silver Cup.
Lead on by Pusey Street Lady and Lowther, the low drawn horses dominated today's running of the Ayr Silver Cup, but it was the same trainer and jockey combination - Richard Fahey and Barry McHugh who had won yesterday's Bronze Cup who dominated again.
Given a strong lead, McHugh brought race favourite Kaldoun Kingdom with a perfectly timed run to pip the running on Lowther, while Green Manalishi and Mastership finished well to take third and fourth positions.
Low draw looks favoured in Gold Cup.
If Friday's first running of the Ayr Bronze Cup - won by Richard Fahey's Baldemar - is any guide, low drawn horses must be favoured in today's runnings of the Ayr Gold and Silver Cups, for the first seven home in yesterday's race were drawn low.
Mac Gillie Eoin blinkered for the first time.
Mac Gillie Eoin has been in the frame several times this season, but has only prevailed on one occasion. So in an interesting move, trainer John Gallagher has decided to put blinkers on his five year old for the first time in this afternoon's Ayr Gold Cup.
Daffodil opens for the season.
Winner of the 2008 New Zealand 1,000 Guineas and Australian Oaks, Daffodil, opened her four year old campaign with a third Group 1 victory in The Windsor Park Plate at Hastings. Not given a hard time , she cruised in behind the lead, and just did enough to secure victory in the mile contest.
As a result of her win, connections are now very hopeful Daffodil will go on to be a major force in this coming season's Australasian horseracing campaign.
