Even more misery for York!Further to our earlier news story, tomorrow's meeting at York has also been lost to the weather. Following further heavy rain during the day, this afternoon's inspection of the waterlogged Knavesmire could only lead to one outcome, and that involved the early cancellation of tomorrow's racing card. It has to be said, unless the rain ceases for a significant period of time, the whole meeting remains in jeopardy! More rain causes York Cancellation!Last night, eleven millimetres of rain fell on the already saturated track at York, with the net result, after an 8.30 a m inspection, today's racing has been cancelled. If the weather relents, and the other three days of the Ebor meeting can take place, then today's Group races have been resheduled as follows: The Group 3 Tattersalls Millions Acomb Stakes will be run tomorrow, The Group 2 Ladbrokes Great Voltigeur Stakes will be run on Thursday, and today's highlight, the Group 1 Juddmonte International Stakes will take place on Friday afternoon. However, a further inspection of the Knavesmire will take place this afternoon at 4.00 p m, and it is possible tomorrow's card may have to be cancelled. If this happens, we will keep you informed of the decisions of the York racecourse authority. Murphy says New Alco will take his chance.Ferdy Murphy is the first trainer to put his head above the parapet, and openly declare his New Alco will take on Denman in this year's Hennessy Gold Cup. O'Brien mob handed at Curragh. For this weekend's Group 2 Galileo EBF Futurity Stakes at the Curragh, Aidan O'Brien currently has fourteen of the twenty five entries in the race. The Master of Bally Doyle has made this race his own, winning it five times in the last ten years, and with entries like; Master of the Horse, Rip Van Winkle, West Falia, and Born to be King, it is a fair bet he will probably add the 2008 running of the seven furlong pattern race to his remarkable role of honour for this season. Prizes all round at Limerick in October. This year's Ladbrokes Munster National Day at Limerick on 12 October has an eight race card, and offers record prize money of well in excess of three hundred thousand euros. In addition to great rewards for owners, trainers, and jockeys, the meeting also represents the Autumn Ladies Day at the track, and for the best dressed lady on the day, there is a fabulous first prize of a five thousand euro diamond bracelet supplied by Owen Bros Jewellers. |
