Society rock survives long stewards enquiry.

Trainer James Fanshawe and jockey George Baker had to wait for some time to receive confirmation Society Rock had secured today's large first prize in the £250,000 Tattersalls Million Sales Race at Newmarket.

Baker had brought his mount with a late powerful run to pip the Mark Johnston trained Take Ten in the final strides, but the stewards then engineered a protracted enquiry before confirming Society Rock had won the race.

Well deserved victory for Mister Mananan.

This afternoon, Dandy Nicholls and his son Adrian Nicholls gave warning to punters about ignoring them at your peril in Ayr sprints. Riding Mister Mananan in the Listed Harry Rosebery Stakes, Adrian gave the youngster the office at around the one and a half furlong from home point, and his mount responded readily, bounding three and a half lengths clear of his rivals by the time he reached the line.

While Puff and Aalsmeer had to settle for the minor honours, today's contest was all about Mister Mananan, and his victory today paid a huge compliment to Sand Vixen, for the Nicholls colt was no match for the Godolphin filly in last week's Flying Childers at Doncaster.

Doctor Fremantle causes punters heart palpatations.

Today's Newbury Arc Trial was probably run at a sedate pace as favourite Look Here allowed Frankie Dettori on Campanologist to dictate a steady pace in the early part of the race. But to be fair to the 2008 Epsom Oaks winner, she looked as if she would win for the first time in fifteen months as she quickened two furlongs out, but Ryan Moore had other ideas, and having guided Doctor Fremantle out of a troublesome position, his mountshowed a tremendous turn of foot in the closing stages, just geting up to deny Look Here by the minimum distance of a nose.

Godolphin one two in Dubai Duty Free Cup.

Ridden by Ted Durkin, Ashram continued his form by scoring by two and a half flengths from stable mate Huntdown in today's Listed Dubai Duty Free Cup at Newbury.

However, Frankie Dettori was not too unhappy about Huntdown's second, for he managed a win of his own aboard youngster Asmeel on today's Newbury card.

Audacity combined with class.

Having won at the Doncaster St Leger Meeting last week, Audacity of Hope was supported into odds on and followed up smartly at Newmarket this afternoon, and appears to be a juvenile going in the right direction.

Scoop Six races for Saturday 19 September.

With a probable combined Win and Bonus pot of around half a million pounds, interest in the Totesport Scoop Six Saturday Wager is once more becoming more heightened.

For those wanting to study the form overnight, the races you need to consider are:

Leg 1 - 1.50 pm Newbury.

Leg 2 - 2.05 pm Ayr.

Leg 3 - 2.35 pm Ayr.

Leg 4 - 2.50 pm Newbury.

Leg 5 - 3.10 pm Ayr.

Leg 6 - 3.40 pm Newmarket.

Three to consider in Ayr Gold Cup.

Apart from the two leading fancies Evens and Odds and Redford, we feel there are three other horses who have definite claims for the frame in tomorrow's Ayr Gold Cup.

Roger Charlton's Genki would become the first horse since Coastel Bluff in 1996 to land the Stewards Cup - Ayr Gold Cup double, and although he has not received a great draw in gate 17, and he would prefer some cut, he is definitely progressive this season, and any repeat of his Goodwood performance puts him in with a great chance.

With apprentice Barry McHugh taking five pounds off top weight Knot In Wood, Richard Fahey's charge is only seven pounds in advance of the bottom weight in tomorrow's race, and if he can repeat the performances seen in the Group 3 Chipchase Stakes at Newcastle, or his third in the Stewards Cup, then he should be short listed for a place.

Jimmy Styles has been there or thereabouts in all of his recent races, and despite having to settle for stall 15 due to telecommunication problems during yesterday's draw, with Frankie Dettori as his partner in tomorrow's ultra competitive handicap, then he must also have every chance of finishing in the first four past the post.

Meehan will take it a step at a time.

Despite having to carry a penalty in tomorrow's Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury, Brian Meehan seems confident Radio Head can prove himself over tomorrow's six furlong trip, and while not wanting to get ahead of himself, the handler admits he is already eyeing the Middle Park Stakes at Newmarket as this season's ultimate target for his Norfolk Stakes winner.

Mcnamara considering Hennessy run for Ponmeoath.

Although only managing to finish sixth in this week's Guinness Kerry National after having won the corresponding races in 2007 and 2008, trainer Eric Mcnamara was not at all disappointed with the performance of Ponmeoath.

"He did as well as we could have expected under top weight, and I am confident he is as good as ever, and having got a run under his belt, we might give him an entry in the Hennessy at Newbury on 28 November.

I think he is the sort of horse who would love Newbury, and we know he can cope in large fields, and providing the handicapper is not too harsh, I think we might give it a go."

2010 Chantilly return planned for Middle Club.

It was announced in a post race interview yesterday, having won Thursday's Prix D'Aumale at Chantilly, Richard Hannon is planning a campaign for juvenile filly Middle Club which will hopefully see her return to Chantilly in 2010 for the Prix de Diane.

JJ gets another chance to prove himself.

Having been frankly disappointing since his move to Richard Hannon's yard, former Mike de Kock inmate JJ the Jetplane will get another chance to show his true ability in tomorrow's Dubai Duty Free World Trophy at Newbury. Should the South African bred horse fail to make the frame in Saturday's race, it would seem very unlikely Richard Hannon will be able to realise his plan to send the five year old to Sha Tin racecourse for the Hong Kong Sprint Trophy in December.

Curtis attempting to make plans for stable stars.

Roger Curtis was delighted with Bold Mover's strong second behind course record breaking Sand Vixen in last week's Flying Childers Stakes at Doncaster, and the handler has confirmed the run his earned his juvenile a crack at the Willmott Dixon Cornwallis Stakes on his next outing.

However, the picture is not so clear for his Group 1 winner Zafisio. Curtis was very happy with the three year old's third position behind Border Patrol in last Sunday's Solonaway Stakes, particularly as Zafisio prefers soft to heavy conditions, and warm weather last weekend perhaps dried the Curragh ground out too much for Curtis's charge to display his best form. Discussing Zafisio in an interview yesterday, Curtis said, "He must have soft to heavy ground to be at his best, and therein lies our problem. With weather conditions being settled at present it is difficult to find a suitable race, so we may have to wait a little longer until the autumn rains provide us with suitable going in an appropriate pattern race."

Memorial name for Apprentice Title.

Following the positive agreement of both families, the current apprentice title race for this yearis to be officially renamed as the Jan Wilson and Jamie Kyne Apprentice Championship 2009.

The memorial name is to honour the two young apprentices who lost their lives in a suspected arson attack on their block of flats in Norton Yorkshire.

Aintree races receive upgrade.

The BHA have announced the Totesport Bowl Chase and the John Smiths Liverpool Hurdle have both been upgraded to Grade 1 standard for the 2010 Grand National Meeting in April of next year. Dependant on whether Aintree maintain the 2009 running order for their 2010 meeting, it is possible with the Four Year Old Hurdle already being a Grade 1 race, the first three races on the Thursday of the Grand National three day meeting could all be Grade 1 races - a running order usually associated with the first day of Royal Ascot.

Mick Fitzgerald hoping to go home soon.

Mick Fitzgerald, the former top jockey to Nicky Henderson, must be sick of the sight of hospitals. During a career littered with major injuries and spells in hospitals, he sustained career ending injuries after his horrendous fall in the Grand National in 2008, and once more he spent several months in and out of medical establishments.

Unfortunately, he is once more laid low, this time having undergone a lung operation following a major infection of one of his lungs. But the good news for the racing pundit is that he is expected to be released for recouperation at his Lambourn home sometime next week.

Dascomb to have first Manor House runner.

It is understood, providing there are no overnight hitches, Tom Dascomb is expected to have his first Manor House Stable runner for Michael Owen and Andrew Black during Saturday's british racing programme..
