Zeitoper overcomes Circumvent in Prix de Conde.

Paul Cole's Circumvent tried to follow up his recent Saint Cloud success by setting the pace in today's Group 3 Prix de Conde at Longchamp, but as he entered the final two hundred metres, he was locked in a battle with Godolphin's Zeitoper, and it was the latter who kept his own unbeaten record as he pipped Circumvent by a short neck.

Bell hopes Sariska will strike the right chord in 2010 Arc.

Michael Bell was happy with Sariska's run behind her older rivals in Saturday's Champion Stakes, and as he explained after the race, the trainer now has a plan for next year,

"I thought Sariska did very well finishing third behind Twice Over and Mawatheeq, particularly as ten furlongs is a bit short for her these days, and although the ground yesterday was good racing ground, she would have fared better with some cut." Bell added,

"People forget Sariska is still only three years old, and she has some developing still to do. We will let her have a holiday now, and next year will be all about preparing her for a run in the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe, and if she gets her preferred soft ground, I would be very hopeful of more Group 1 success."

Fleming to prepare Starluck for Christmas Hurdle.

Alan Fleming has decided not to overface Starluck following his facile victory at Cheltenham on Saturday, and the handler has indicated he will next seek out a strong second year novice hurdle for his gelding before potentially putting him up against his elders in the William Hill Christmas Hurdle at Kempton Park on Boxing Day.

O'Grady hoping it's third time lucky for Jumbo.

Edward O'Grady has already given top novice hurdler Jumbo Rio two outings in major novice races at Auteuil, but on both occasions the four year old has had to settle for second position, but having put in a strong winning performance at Limerick on his last outing, the handler is hopeful his charge can make it 'third time lucky' when he returns to the Paris national hunt track on 15 November. Explaining his reasons for the multiple visits to Auteuil, O'Grady said,

"I think it is important to keep young hurdlers competing for as long as possible against their own age group, and at least at Auteuil Jumbo Rio can get plenty of top class action against comparable types of novices." Discussing future options, O'Gradey added,

"Regardless of what happens in his next race, we will have to consider putting him in against more experienced hurdlers, and that will probably mean a run during the Christmas Festival at Leopardstown."

Confirmed broken leg for Keniry.

When jockey Barry Keniry came down with mount The Shy Man at Kelso on Saturday, the omens did not look good as he was attended on the turf, and today it has been confirmed he has a broken leg, and will be out of action for several months.

Cox believes Xtension is a genuine Guineas prospect.

Despite losing out by a short head and a nose to the Ballydoyle duo Beethoven and Fencing Master in Saturday's Dewhurst Stakes, Clive Cox was delighted with the performance of Xtension, and he is adamant his colt is a genuine 2,000 Guineas prospect,

"Considering it was his first run since Goodwood in July, we were delighted with the way he battled in the final furlong. We have deliberately limited his appearances as a two year old as we feel he will be much better as a three year old. In many ways, his Vintage Stakes win and yesterday's third are both bonuses, and I am really looking forward to seeing him in action next year."

Simcock to aim Darley Sun at Gold Cup glory.

Having now seen Darley Sun follow up his Doncaster Cup second place with a demolishon of top class long distance handicappers in yesterday's Cesarewich, trainer David Simcock admits he is exciteed at the prospect of running Darley Sun in next year's Gold Cup races.

"To be frank, he has totally overachieved on what we expected of him as a three year old, but now we know what we have got, with the right preparation he has to be a major prospect in next year's Gold Cup races, and we will almost certainly tailor his early season training with the Ascot Gold Cup as his first target."

Poquelin earns Paddy Power Gold Cup run.

A very satisfactory win at Cheltenham on Saturday afternoon seems to have earned Poquelin a place in Paul Nicholls's squad for the November running of the Paddy Power Gold Cup. One of the Stewart family's horses, Poquelin appears to have developed into a fine steeplechaser over the summer, and with yesterday's success at Prestbury Park now in the bag, he will go into the Paddy Power Gold Cup fully fit, and with the progressive profile normally associated with previous winners of the ultra competitive two and a half mile race.

Brookhouse to send Master of Arts to Mark Johnston.

David Pipe was delighted when he received Master of Arts as a novice hurdler from owner Roger Brookhouse, but the trainer must now wait at least another season before he can utilise the talents of the highly regarded four year old.

It appears Master of Arts damaged his knee during the running of the Triumph Hurdle at this year's Cheltenham Festival, and vets have told Brookhouse he must have at least one year on the flat if the injury is to repair sufficiently to allow Master of Arts to return to the national hunt code. Consequently, the owner has made the decision to move his horse from David Pipe to Mark Johnston's stables in Malton, as with Johnston's veterinarian background, the owner is hopeful during 2010 Master of Arts can have a productive season on the flat, while being prepared for an eventual return to national hunt racing with David Pipe.

Champs Elysees collars Jukebox Jury in Canadian International.

When Royston Ffrench sent the Mark Johnston trained Jukebox Jury on at the tw furlong pole of last evening's Pattinson Canadian International at Woodbine, he took a length lead in the ten fulong contest, and looked like the probable winner, but the Juddmonte owned six year old Champs Elysees responded to the urgings of jockey Garrett Gomez, and wore Jukebox Jury down in the final furlong, going on to score by a half length, with the British trained duo Jukebox Jury and Buccellati having to settle for the minor honours.

After the race, trainer Bobby Frankel announced Champs Elysees had run his last race, and would now head back to his birth country of Britain, where he would now stand at stud.

Andrew Balding was very happy with the improvement shown by third placed Buccellati, and the trainer has indicated his charge will now be aimed at the Hong Kong meeting in December.

Shock winner Lahaleeb gives Bewick his first Group 1 success.

Mick Channon's Fred Darling Stakes winner Lahaleeb became the longest ever priced winner in the 54 year history of the E P Taylor Stakes at Woodbine. The 44/1 shot was in impressive mode as she relished the underfoot conditions and overpowered race favourite Rainbow view by a length and three quarters.

After the race, Channon was elated for his owners, and more especially as his filly had given young jockey William Bewick his first ever Group 1 winner. Describing his feelings, Channon said,

"We didn't do anything special, but she came here fresh, as you could see from the way she was kicking out in the paddock. She needs a bit of cut, and when she gets her ground, she is a very good filly."

"I am delighted for her owners and my staff, and of course, I am very happy we could provide William with his first Group 1 winner.". With regard to a further run for Lahaleeb in the Breeders Cup, Channon had this to say,

"It would be very nice to go on to Santa Anita, but the track and ground may not suit her, and I think we will have to sit down and think about it before we give a definite answer."
