Dunguib to star in Fairyhouse Royal Bond novice hurdle.
Grade One winning bumper sensation Dunguib is set to be one of the star attractions on show at next weeks Fairyhouse Winter Festival as the Cheltenham Festival winner takes his place in the Grade One Bar One Racing Royal Bond Novice Hurdle for which the sponsors make him a 4/9 favourite.
Trainer Philip Fenton has described his stable star to be in ‘great form’ ahead of what will be his third hurdling appearance of the season after two facile wins to date.
“Dunguib seems fine and it is all systems go now to the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse” said Fenton.
“He has come out of his race at Fairyhouse in great form so we will go to the Royal Bond now and then after that we will have time to decide where we go from there.”
The Royal Bond has thrown up many big name winners in the past and Fenton admits this will be the six-year-olds first real challenge since joining the hurdling ranks.
“Fairyhouse will be the first big step over hurdles for him but I don’t think it will be as heavy there as Punchestown so that shouldn’t be a concern. He will be staying at 2miles, as he has plenty of pace and it suits him.”
To date, Dunguib has been partnered in public by amateur Brian O’Connell who retained the ride once the horse went over hurdles and Fenton added,
“They are a good combination. He was a bit keen the last day but he should relax with more pace on in the Royal Bond.”
In what looks set to be an absolutely cracking renewal of the top class novice hurdle, In the 29 November race, John Kiely’s Sweeps Hill, and John Hanlon’s Luska Lad – both quality bumper horses last season – could also feature as well as the best of the Willie Mullins novice hurdle team, while Some Present who followed Dunguib home at Cheltenham and was runner-up there last week over hurdles is also engaged.
