Betfair customers win big Tote dividends.

Betting on Tote products is certainly big business on Betfair these days, and today, one point five of the ffour winning Fakenham Tote Jackpot tickets were placed by Betfair customers. In fact, one lucky small punter scored a massive return of over fifty eight thousand pounds for just a twelve pound stake, while the other Betfair customer had a full winning ticket, and netted a cool one hundred and seventeen thousand three hundred pounds.

Zarkava tops pole but second Cartier Award for New Approach.

At yesterday's Cartier Horse Racing Awards, Zarkava topped her outstanding season by being proclaimed as the Top Racehorse of 2008. Anyone having watched her demolition of a good field in the Prix de L'Arc de triomphe would have had no doubt as to the outcome of this year's premier award, but confirmation is always appreciated.

Having won the Cartier Award in 2007 for the top two year old, at yesterday's ceremony, New Approach overcame tough competition from several of his peers to secure the 2008 Cartier Award for the top three year old. Unfortunately, his premature retirement will exclude him from obtaining a hat trick of victories.

Looking forward to Binocular Seasonal Debut.

Nicky Henderson naturally has a high opinion of his good horses, but even he is really looking forward to Binocular's first run of the season in Saturday's Betfair Hurdle at Haydock. The Sevenbarrows handler has been very happy with Binocular's preparation, and he is also very happy with the qualification criteria of Saturday's race, commenting,

"It is nice to be able to start a four year old off in his own age group, because they do not have easy second seasons."

Carberry advice to Walsh.

Having had the misfortune to undergo a spleendectomy himself, Paul Carberry has advised Ruby Walsh to take his time over his recovery from such a serious operation. Carberry told Walsh,

"It took me three months to stop feeling the effects of the operation", and he advised Walsh not to rush back to competitive race riding.

War of Attrition stays at home.

Having pullled his stable star out of the Betfair Chase at the five day decleration stage, Mouse Morris admitted he had decided to avoid a head on confrontation with Kauto Star so early in War of Attrition's comeback season. Instead his nine year old will probably take part in the John Durkan Memorial Chase at Punchestown on 07 December.

Although starting his season well with victories at Punchestown and Thurles, the John Durkan has proved an unsuccessful race for War of Attrition on two previous occasions, finishing fifth to High Cloy in 2005 and second to In Compliance in 2006.

However, the trainer believes his horse likes Punchestown, and also taking on Kauto Star on soft to heavy ground at this stage of War of Attrition's comeback would have put him at a definite disadvantage.

Sizing Europe likely for Christmas Hurdle.

Henry de Bromhead has explained Sizing Europe's defeat by Hardy Eustace was due to two things,

"We used over aggressive tactics on our lad at this stage of his comeback, and Hardy Eustace was just 'savage' on the day, and it shows how under estimated Hardy Eustace has become, and how well he is handled by Dessie Hughes."

De Bromhead has also confirmed Sizing Europe has come out of the tough race in good shape, and the trainer believes his next target will be the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown on 27 December.

Expensive novice to make debut at Kelso.

Presenting Forever, who cost three hundred and seventy thousand pounds, and could be a Supreme Novices Hurdle challenger, is to make his debut over timber for trainer Howard Johnson in Friday's beginners hurdle at Kelso.

Expound your point of view.

Members of the public will have an opportunity to discuss their views and experiences at Dundalk, Down Royal and Downpatrick Racecourses at a public forum on Tuesday 2nd December at the Ballymascanlon Hotel, Dundalk, Co. Louth at 8pm.
Siobhan Tolerton, Northern Ireland representative on the RCF said: "Dundalk, Down Royal and Downpatrick racecourses are popular racecourses and we hope for a good attendance from the public at this event and welcome all opinions raised.  The aim of the forum is to improve the racegoing experience for both new and regular racegoers alike.  Among the issues usually raised at the forums are items such as racecourse facility standards, admission prices and family access. We are working to make a difference for racegoers at both a regional and national level."
This is one of a series of country-wide public meetings being held by Horse Racing Ireland and the Racegoers Consultative Forum.
