Scoop Six rolls over again!
When Lahaleeb won today's Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes at Newbury, the remaining five tickets on the fourth leg of the Scoop Six were eliminated, and a combined Win and Bonus Fund of nearly a million pounds will now roll over until next Saturday.
Vocalised outstays his rivals in Greenham.
With the fitness benefit of a run, and evidence of undoubtted stamina, Jim Bolger's Vocalised ground his way to victory in the final two furlongs of the Group 3 Greenham Stakes at Newbury.
Cityscape put in a sound first run in second place, but second favourite Shaweel failed to pick up on the soft ground when having every chance at the two furlong mark.
Hello Bud makes it a start to finish victory.
Hello Bud went to the front at the first fence of today's Scottish Grand National, and apart from being headed briefly by King Barry, he was still at the head of affairs as the remaining runners entered the home straight for the final time. For a moment Out The Black came alongside the long time leader at the third last, and for a brief second he looked dangerous, but he could not sustain his challenge and had to settle for third place. Then A P McCoy put in his trade mark driving finish on Gone To Lunch after the last, but Nigel Twiston Davies's charge had enough in reserve to hold off the final challenger, and provided the south country trainer with his third success in the Grade 3 contest.
Lahaleeb continues rags to riches story.
When Frankie Dettori took it up on Super Sleuth in the final furlong of today's Group 3 Fred Darling Stakes, he must have thought he had made the decisive break. However, Lahaleeb, who started last season in minor company and just continued to improve, showed she has now made up into a tough Group 3 filly, and under a determinde drive from partner Daryl Holland, the Mick Channon trained filly took victory in the shadow of the winning post.
Jim Bolgers race favourite Maoineach was disappointing on the soft ground, while second favourite Sariska was doing all her best work at the end of the race, and is now crying out for a trip on her next outing.
Noble Alan not unfancied winner of Scottish Champion Hurdle.
With the pace set by Harper Valley, very few horses got into the finish of today's Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr, and even when passed, the front runner held on for third place behind Noble Alan and Secret Tune.
Noble Alan is a lightly raced type who had obviously been prepared for today's Grade 2 Handicap, and his seventeen to two starting price indicates his popularity among punters in the know.
Spring Cup goes to Extra Terrestrial.
Having run consistantly at both Doncaster and Kempton in the early weeks of the current flat season, Extra Terrestrial managed to hang on from bottom weight Arabian Spirit on the rain softened ground at Newbury. The Spring Cup was just desserts for a horse who is always 'there abouts' in most of these competitive one mile handicaps.
The filly Medichi Pearl filled the third spot, with Spectate getting an excellent fourth in ground he did not like.
Deep Purple all the way winner.
Evan Williams's Deep Purple led all the way in the Scottish Future Champions Chase at Ayr, and although favourite I'msingingtheblues came to challenge two out, he lacked stamina, and Deep Purple ran out a comfortable winner, and thereby scored his ninth win in fifteen outings.
Enroller a suprise winner of John Porter.
Martin Dwyer had kept Enroller close to the pace of the Group 3 John Porter Stakes, and the tactics paid dividends in the latter stages. At the two furlong post favourite Royal and Regal flattered, but soon faded out of the contest, and it was left to the John Gosden trained Centennial to chase Enroller home.
Enroller's win took Scoop Six punters by suprise, and after the first leg only two thousand six hundred were left in the hunt for around a million pounds.
Elnawin ruled out of Greenham.
With ground conditions becoming soft overnight, Richard Hannon felt it wise to withdraw Elnawin from today's Greenham Stakes. The three year old has shown no liking for soft ground on previous occasions, and connections will now have to look for another target, or go straight to the 2,000 Guineas.
The withdrawal was a blow to Hannon, as he was hoping to land the Greenham for the third year in a row, but he will now have to rely entirely on his other runner Icesolator.
Ayr going good despite watering.
Despite spraying the equivalent of six millimetres of rain on the track last night, Ayr officials confirm today's going will be on the sound side of good, but extra watering will ensure there is some give on the take off and landing areas on the chase course.
Take Over Target as good as ever.
With only two months to go until Royal Ascot, old Australian sprint campaigner Take Over Target proved he is as good as ever with a win in the Group 1 T J Smith Stakes. The victory included the slamming of several big Australian names, and represents the ten year olds seventh win at Group 1 level.
In this kind of form, we can expect the usual high standard performances from the veteran at this year's Royal meeting.
Mastercraftsman a major doubt for Guineas.
With both Ladbrokes and Betfair reporting late yesterday of a major drifte in market odds for Mastercraftsman, there are serious doubts this morning Aidan O'Brien's long time anti post favourite will even line up in the Newmarket 2,000 Guineas.
As soon as we can obtain a comment from connections, we will let you know the latest situation.
