Coral agree new three year deal for Group One Eclipse.

Coral Bookmakers and Sandown Park racecourse have agreed a new three year sponsorship deal which sees Coral continue their sponsorship of Sandown Park's only Group One flat race - The Coral Eclipse Stakes.

However, in a new development, Coral will for the next three years also sponsor the six accompanying races on Eclipse Day.

Crack Away Jack to go novice chasing.

After finishing fourth in this year's Champion Hurdle, connections of Crack Away Jack would have been expected to give the five year old another crack at next year's premier hurdling crown. But in an unexpected move, trainer Emma Lavell has announced her stable star is to go straight to novice chasing.

It has always been thought by good judges, including former champion jockey John Francome, Crack Away Jack would make up into an excellent chaser, so this news will almost certainly make him one of the anti post favourites for next year's Arkle Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Today's Grand National News.

It seems likely if Exotic Dancer by-passes the Grand National, the Paul Nicholls trained Nosik will be raised to the new top weighted horse for this year's race. Currently on eleven stone three pounds, if he is raised to eleven stone ten pounds, this will mean all the other horses below him in the handicap will also be raised by seven pounds, and this creates a potential problem with the Irish entrants. Prior to the current position, several Irish trainers were complaining about the weight their horses had to carry in this year's race, and if all the weights are hiked a further seven pounds, there is a distinct possibility several of the leading Irish horses could be scratched from this year's race.

Jim Dreaper has confirmed his Welsh Grand National winner Notra Pere will not recover from a slight injury in sufficient time for him to put in a top class performance at Aintree, so the decision has been made to scratch the eight year old's entry for this year.

Having considered the options, Nigel Twiston Davies has also decided not to run his Ryanair Chase winner Imperial Commander in this year's Aintree centrepiece.

Arthur Moore is understood to have advised owner J P Macmanus, although last year's Grand National runner up King Johns Castle did not win the same Naas hurdle race he used as his preparation for the 2008 Grand National, he has come on for the race, and the trainer is confident he can get the ten year old grey into top condition in an attempt to go one better in this year's contest. Meanwhile, one of Macmanus's other entries, Butlers Cabin, is reported to be 'bouncing' following his fith behind Character Building at the Cheltenham Festival.

Fivefourthree returns to the track today.

Willie Mullins is said to be very happy he has managed to get last year's Ballymore Properties Hurdle winner Fivefour three back into racing action. One of last year's top novice hurdlers, the grey has been troubled by a recurrent injury problem which has kept him off the track for eleven months, and forced him to miss last week's Cheltenham Festival, but trainer Mullins is hopeful a win in today's Richard Brown and Sons Handicap Hurdle at Wexford will set his charge up for major prizes at the Aintree, Fairyhouse, or Punchestown Festivals.

Barber hints at another Denman run this season.

Denman's co-owner Paul Barber told an interviewer yesterday, he was not ruling out running Denman in another race before the end of the current season. It would seem if Denman is to run again, the Bet 365 Chase at Sandown later next month would seem the obvious choice, but there are also two good possibilities during the Punchestown Festival.

Maximum entry for Kentucky Derby Trial at Kempton.

This year's Kentucky Derby Trial at Kempton Park to morrow evening provides the winner with an automatic entry into the Race for the Roses at Churchill Downs, and even for turning up on the day, the winning horses's owner can pick up a huge bonus payment. Not suprisingly, these incentives have attracted a maximum entry of fourteen top class three year olds for tomorrow evening's contest.

Mark Johnston has entered the unbeaten four hundred and fifty thousand dollar yearling Haashed, and stable mate Mastery, a brother to Kirklees, who on his second start was third behind Henry Cecil's On Our Way in a Conditions event.

John Gosden also has two entries, Close Alliance and Mafaaz, while Richard Hannon, Paul Cole, Mikael Magnusson, John Best, Mick Channon and Karl Burke are also represented in this new but important race.

William Hill take over sponsorship of Ayr Gold Cup Meeting.

With brewwers Scottish and Newcastle reluctant to sign up to a long term deal for their John Smiths brand, leading bookmakers William Hill have agreed a three year deal with Ayr racecourse to take over the sponsorship of the Ayr Gold Cup, Ayr Silver Cup, and several other races at the three day September meeting.

The new deal, lasting up to September 2011, will ensure the Ayr Gold Cup remains as europe's richest handicap sprint for the foreseeable future.

John Smiths name still associated with Kelso sponsorship.

The above decision at Ayr does not mean brewers Scottish and Newcastle are taking a proactive policy of disassociating the John Smiths name with horseracing. In fact, the firm are to sponsor two twenty thousand pound races at this Friday's Kelso meeting, and by not signing up to long term deals, the brewers actually have more flexibility to sponsor top class racing when other sponsorship opportunities present themselves in the future.

Fixtures switched as Great Leighs remains closed.

Following an announcement from Administrators Deloitte, Great Leighs racecourse will remain closed for at least another month. As a result, the British Horseracing Authority have decided in consultation with the Levy Board to allocate the following fixtures to other racecourses; 31 March goes to Southwell, 03 April goes to Bath, 08 April goes to Brighton, and 14 April goes to Great Yarmouth.

The evening fixtures planned for 02 April, 11 April, and 16 April are still unresolved, as none of the other floodlit tracks were keen to pick up these available dates.

Speaking about there new fixture on 03 April, Bath officials are delighted at being able to provide an earlier start to their flat racing season, and they are offering a whole range of price and hospitality reductions to encourage race-goers to attend their new Friday fixture.

Eagle Mountain suffers a set back.

Hong Kong Cup winner Eagle Mountain is reported to have suffered ligament damage in a training session, and handler Mike de Kock reports he will now miss the five million pound Sheema Classic on Dubai World Cup Day, and will not return to the european racing circuit until late June at the earliest.

No further Strangles cases so far.

As no further Strangles cases have been reported in the William Jarvis stable in the last twenty four hours, veterinarian officials are hopeful they have caught the outbreak in time to avoid further infection of the numerous thoroughbred stables in Newmarket.
