Specific targets for Russian Trigger.

Russian Trigger has only had four runs over fences, but yesterday he added the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter to his previous victory in the Kent National at Folkestone. With his Barnstaple based trainer Victor Dartnall confident his seven year old son of Double Trigger can "stay forever, and mix it with the best stayers in long distance races", it is perhaps not suprising Russian Trigger's handler is already mapping out an ambitious programme for his lightly raced but progressive chaser. In an interview this morning, Dartnall confirmed Russian Trigger would now go for the Scottish Grand National in April, and would then have a programme prepared to get him to the Grand National in peak condition for the 2010 running of Aintree's premier race.

Fleming sure his Star will have more Luck at Aintree.

Although Alan Fleming was delighted with Starluck's fourth place in Friday's Triumph Hurdle, he is positive the flat surface and tight corners of Aintree's Mildmay Course will suit the superb hurdling technique exhibited by his youngster in all his races. Fleming has therefore decided to run Starluck in the John Smiths Anniversary Four Year Old Novice Hurdle at the three day Grand National meeting.

Marchand D'Or ready for season opener.

Freddie Head gave last season's top rated european sprinter Marchand D'Or a racecourse gallop yesterday, and afterwards, the trainer expressed himself as very happy with the multiple Group One winner's form prior to his initial race at Saint Cloud next week.

Bookies would like extra Cheltenham races.

The bookmaking firms have expressed themselves as very happy with the early starts used at this year's four day Cheltenham Festival, but in an ideal world, they have indicated they would like two extra races so as to extend the racing programme for a later finish on two days of next year's Festival meeting.

Based on the large fields for this year's various races, there would be no shortage of runners for additional contests, but the decision on this suggestion will ultimately have to be made by Cheltenham officials in consultation with there colleagues at the British Horseracing Authority.

Hurrican Fly injury slow to repair.

Willie Mullins is for the first time admitting the splint injury suffered by his anti post favourite for the Supreme Novices Hurdle, could see Hurrican Fly sidelined for the remainder of the current season.

The brilliant and unbeaten young hurdler is only coming back from the injury very slowly, and if he does not recover fully within the next three weeks, it will be very difficult for Mullins to get sufficient work into Hurrican Fly for him to compete at the highest level at the Punchestown Festival at the end of April.

Carberry and Greenall both allowed home.

In a suprise move, jockey Paul Carberry has been allowed home from Cheltenham General Hospital. Carberry's fall from Jaamid has left him with a broken rib, punctured lung, and a slight tear in his liver. Despite these injuries he took the ferry back to Ireland yesterday afternoon. Carberry's mother has confirmed, the doctors have advised him not to fly for at least three weeks, and there are no set plans for his return to the saddle.

Meanwhile, amateur jockey Oliver Greenall, who suffedd a broken rib and punctured lung along with a bruised spleen after his fall from Heathcliff, was also released from hospital yesterday. His father Lord Daresbury reported his son was subject to bed rest, and there were no set plans for him to return to riding.

Down Royal delighted over Kauto plans.

Officials at Down Royal racecourse are said to be absolutely delighted at the suggestion Kauto Star will begin his 2009 2010 campaign with a return to the Northern Ireland racecourse. Paul Nicholls was so happy with the route undertaken to the Cheltenham Festival 2009 by Kauto Star, he sees no reason to change it, so his double Gold Cup winner will almost certainly start next season's activity with an attempt at recapturing his jnwine.com Chase title which he won for the first time last November.
