Findlay's co-operative share Scoop Six Bonus.Although three punters decided not to join in, ten of the other Scoop Six winning ticket holders from last week joined with Harry Findlay in a co-operative effort to win the record Bonus Fund of nearly three point two million pounds. Having covered all but two of the horses in today's Midlands Grand National, the Findlay co-operative were successful, with the individual ticket holders adding two hundred and twenty seven thousand four hundred and fifty four pounds to the fifty eight thousand they all won last week. Meanwhile, world famous gambler Findlay had four winning tickets, and pocketed nine hundred and nine thousand two hundred and nineteen pounds on top of his winnings from last week of around two hundred and thirty three thousand pounds. For the rest of us who are looking on, the good news is the Scoop Six was not won today, so the Win Fund rolls over to next week. Perhaps this could mark the start of a new record roll over sequence, and we could have similar scenes in a few weeks as those witnessed today at Uttoxeter. Russian Trigger wins the Midlands Grand National. After changing fortunes all along the Uttoxeter home straight, it was Russian Trigger who put in the telling run in today's Midlands Grand National. Four from home, the gambled on Giddam Giddam looked the winner as he entered the home straight with a five length lead, but he suddenly began to run out of puff, and last year's second placed Badger Law seemed the likely winner, but Jessica Harrington's charge also failed to go on, and Flintoff made his way to the front. Immediately after the last fence Flintoff had a three length lead, but Russian Trigger and Hold The Pin began to close, but it was Russian Trigger who had the telling stamina, and he galloped on relentlessly to secure the prestigious first prize. Snake Charmer too slippery for top weights. In the Class Two John Smiths Handicap Hurdle at Uttoxeter this afternoon, Snake Charmer set a cracking pace from a long way out, and although the top weighted pair of Victoria's Groom and Mumbles Head made a race of it in the final furlong, Snake Charmer always had too much in reserve for his rivals. The third place for Mumbles Head under eleven stone eleven pounds was very creditable, as this was his first race for nearly two years. Kauto rests before another three Gold Cups?Paul Nicholls has today confirmed Kauto Star will now have a holiday during this year's spring and summer before he returns to the track, probably in the jnwine.com Chase at Down Royal in November. Nicholls also raised the possibility Kauto Star could compete in the next three Cheltenham Gold Cups, and he will be trained and raced with this goal in mind. Horner Wood to head to Punchestown.Jessica Harrington's Horner Wood, who belied his sixty six to one odds by finishing an excellent second to Cooldine in Thursday's Royal and Sun Alliance Chase, is now to be aimed at a major novice chase prize at the Punchestown Festival next month. Scoop Six Bonus likely to be won today. The record breaking Scoop Six Bonus Fund of £3,184,369 will probably be won today. With Harry Findlay being involved in one of the winning syndicates who hold the seventeen eligible tickets, it is likely he will ensure most, if not all of the horses in today's Midlands Grand National are nominated as the potential winner, and the Bonus Fund will then be shared out amongst all the ticket holders. However, for those interested in having a go at today's Scoop Six Win Fund, the races involved are; 2.05 p m at Uttoxeter, the 2.20 p m at Wetherby, the 2.35 p m at Uttoxeter, the 3.10 p m at Uttoxeter, the 3.30 p m at Lingfield, and the 3.40 at Uttoxeter. >>>>>> follow on Story -
As expected, the Scoop Six Bonus Fund was shared by around fifteen winners after this afternoon's Midlands Grand National. Uttoxeter keeps the euphoria alive.I always like today's Midlands Grand National meeting at Uttoxeter, for after the highs of the Cheltenham Festival, it manages to maintain the euphoria of the previous week, while gently easing us ddown to normal racing for a week or so, and whereas a few years ago you might have found a couple of hundred irish visitors at the midlands track, I can guarantee a big contingent from across the Irish Sea will have stayed on for today's race. In fact, Irish trainers have an excellent record in the Midlands Grand National, and I suspect it is Jessica Harrington's Badger Law who will take all the beating in the 2009 running of this firmly established anglo irish event. Exotic Dancer may join My Will in Grand National. My Will, who finished an excellent fifth in yesterday's Cheltenham Gold Cup, was known to be usin Friday's Grade One contest as a warm up for his real target of the Aintree Grand National, but if rumours are correct, Exotic Dancer, who finished in third place in yesterday's blue ribbon race, may also now go for the Grand National. In many respects, this is an obvious target for the Jonjo O'Neill trained nine year old, for with Kauto Star and Denman likely to be on the go during his racing career, Exotic Dancer's main chance for fame may come as the potential winner of the Grand National. Melling target for Voy Por Ustedes.Despite losing out in the Ryanair Chase to Imperial Commander, Alan King believes Voy Por Ustedes has every chance of regaining the Melling Chase title he won for the first time last year. Speaking yesterday, the trainer commented, "He loves the Mildmay Course at Aintree, and I am confident he will have recovered sufficiently to win the Melling Chase for a second year". Carberry still under observation.Following his fall from Jaamid at the Cheltenham Festival, Paul Carberry is reported to be sore, and for the next few days, he is expected to remain under observation for his lung and rib injuries sustained during the fall. Sad end for all weather regular Bonus. When nine year old Bonus pulled up lame last week during a Wolverhampton Listed contest, no one thought much about it at the time, as everyone expected him to recover and be back in action in the near future. Sadly, the injury was much worse than first suspected, and Gerard Butler's old regular all weather campaigner has had to be put down. For those who visit the all weather meetings, this will be a sad loss, as the horse always gave his best, and more often than not, he managed a placed position in the majority of his races. Nicholls to parade heroes.Paul Nicholls is not going racing today. Instead, he is staying at his Ditcheat yard and preparing Kauto Star and Denman for a parade through his local village this afternoon, and who can blame him,for this week the fruits of his labours were obvious for all to see, as he came within a neck of winning all four of the major races at the Cheltenham Festival. Martin Pipe was a great trainer, but as the years go by, Paul Nicholls is establishing himself as a legendary trainer, who could one day become the most successful of all time under national hunt rules. Trio invited to Dubai.Newmarket based runners Spanish Moon, Presvis and Purple Moon have been invited to compete in this year's Sheema Classic on World Cup Day at Dubai's Nad al Sheeba racecourse.
