Blockley Appeal.

Trainer Paul Blockley, who recently received a two and a half year penalty for his alleged involvement in race fixing, has today made a formal appeal against the judgement and penalty he received from the BHA Disciplinary Panel.

Today's interim Appeal Panel of the BHA set a date for his full Appeal Hearing of 15 December. His two and a half year penalty has been suspended until the Appeal, subject to certain conditions:

1. Apart from a permitted visit to Hanover on 17 November, Mr Blockley is banned from visiting racecourse premises anywhere in the world.

2. Mr Blockley is forbidden from giving any interviews to worldwide media.

3. Mr Blockley must adhere to the set timetable established for the various stages of his Appeal, and any changes to the timetable must be made formally at least 1 full day in advance of any such deadline.

Dean McKeown indicates he will also Appeal.

The BHA have announced this afternoon, jockey Dean McKeown intends to Appeal against his four year ban from racing. He has not requested a stay on the commencement of his penalty, and his Appeal will start on the same day as that of PaulBlockley.

In the meantime, the BHA have asked us to point out, Dean McKeown is a banned person, and is to have no involvement or meetings with anyone involved in horse racing.

Ground breaking sponsorship deal.

The Australian based Melbourne Racing Club and Betfair, the world's leading on-line betting exchange, have today announced a major sponsorship association. The cornerstone of the partnership involves Betfair securing naming rights to Sandown Racecourse along with on-course signature presence and race sponsorship involvement at both Sandown and the club's other racing venue at CaulfieldRacecourse, (both racecourses being located in the State of Victoria).

The sponsorship venture also allows for promotional activity surrounding the club's race days during the club's major racing carnivals in the Australian spring, summer and autumn.

Throughout the 3 years of the deal, Sandown will be renamed Betfair Park, this representing the first time any Victoria State racecourse has carried a sponsors name.

The new association will commence this Saturday when Betfair sponsor the Group Two $351,000 Betfair Sandown Guineas for three year olds.

Snowy Morning to make seasonal debut today.

Having missed the jnwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal on 01 November, Snowy Morning will make his seasonal debut in today's Grade Two Clonmel Oil Chase at the County Tipperary track.

Hogan worried about Cheltenham ground.

Trainer Tom Hogan has indicated Silver Jaro may have to miss Sunday's Greatwood Hurdle if ground conditions become too heavy. The suprise winner of this year's County Hurdle has always shown his best on good or soft ground, and connections have expressed concerns about the possibility of having to race on unsuitable underfoot conditions.

Franchoek will by-pass Greatwood.

Alan King has announced connections of Franchoek have decided to by-pass Sunday's Greatwood Hurdle in favour of a run at Ascot the following Saturday.

Exotic Dancer tops weights.

Sir Robert Ogden's consistant top class chaser Exotic Dancer has been allocated top weight for the Hennessy Gold Cup at the end of the month. Although he had a pleasing reappearance run over the insufficient trip of the Old Roan Chase at Aintree, trainer Jonjo O'Neill believes he will find it hard to win such a competitive handicap as the Hennessy carrying eleven stone twelve pounds.

Calderan on the mend.

Although he will be out of action for at least a year, the good news about top chaser Calderan is the operation on his broken shoulder has been a success, and trainer Tom Hogan has announced he has now returned home, where he will undergo a long period of recouperation.
