Steinbeck a wide margin winner at Naas.

The well regarded two year old Steinbeck stormed from the gate in tonight's Condition Stakes at Naas, and despite the fact he was receiving weight, and his main opposition got in each others way during the race, he could do no more than win, and he achieved this feat in such a way that could mark him out as one to follow at Royal Ascot this season.

Holland Appeal to be heard tomorrow.

Darryl Holland's appeal against a 'totting-up' suspension of twenty one days imposed by the Warwick stewards following his ride on Gold Maha on Saturday evening, is to be heard by the full BHA Disciplinary Panel at 9.15 am tomorrow morning.

Holland is hoping his appeal will enable him to overturn some of the ban, as it currently means he will not be available to ride at the two day Epsom Derby Meeting in June.

Geordieland to attempt consecutive victories.

The Jamie Osborne trained Geordieland is amongst nine entries standing their ground at today's final decleration stage for Friday's Emirate Airlines Yorkshire Cup. Last year's winner will have to face last year's runner-up Royal and Regal, although the latter will have to improve on his poor performance in the John Porter Stakes behind Enroller if he is to trouble the York judge this year.

Godolphin have a good record in the Yorkshire Cup, Saeed bin Suroor having lifted the trophy on three occasions, and connections will be represented by the well regarded Veracity.

Howard Johnson has two representatives including 2006 winner Percussionist, and the former Aidan O'Brien inmate Washington Irving.

The remaining four runners being; Ask, Blue Bajan, Centennial and Fiulin.

If Geordieland can show he has retained his ability in Friday's race, with the apparent loss of form by Yeats, Jamie Osborne's charge could find himself at the head of the market for the Ascot Gold Cup in June.

Utmost Respect victory pays massive compliment to York's new track.

When a proven soft ground Group winning horse like Utmost Respect can win the Group 2 Duke of York Stakes on going described as good to firm, it proves the new running surface at the Knavesmire must be of a superb quality. It would also suggest Richard Fahey's charge is in for an excellent season!

As in the Abernant Stakes at Newmarket, the David Nicholls trained Tax Free made the running in today's six furlong contest, and until the final half furlong it seemed his tactic would pay off, but Paul Hannigan new he had stamina on his side, and Utmost Respect took it up and held off all-comers.

Despite carrying a three pound penalty and having to race alone on his side of the track, Kings Apostle put in a great late run to snatch second place from favourite Tax Free, and he is another who will be worth following as the season progresses.

Sariska spells out her Oaks claims.

The Michael Bell trained Sariska turned today's Group 3 Musidora Stakes into a personal statement as to her claims for victory in next month's Investec Oaks at Epsom.

Travelling well within herself throughout the race, she followed Star Ruby and Patch Attack as they made the pace, and when asked the question by partner Jamie Spencer three furlongs out, she lengthened to go alongside, and then surpass Star Ruby. The way Sariska then stretched her final winning margin to three and three quarter lengths in the final furlong suggests she will improve for the extra furlong and a half of the Oaks trip.

The Peter Chapple-Hyam trained Star Ruby stayed on for second place, and finished three and a quarter lengths in front of the Queen's frankly disappointing filly Enticement, the latter never quickening on today's ground.

Balding delighted with Brief Encounter.

The second race on today's York card witnessed a great late run from the Andrew Balding trained Brief Encounter. As the field entered the final furlong, the contest seemed to be between Hartley and the favourite Photographic, but as they dualled up front, William Bewick galvanised Brief Encounter to swoop on the outside and pip the other two runners to the winning line.

The contest between the other two placed runners was so fierce, not even a photograph could separate them at the end, and they ended up dead heating for second place.

After the race, Balding indicated Brief Encounter is a progressive type, and the trainer is hopeful the filly will land a Listed race in due course.

Moonquake secures Godolphin third success.

Having been successful on Folk Tune in 2007 and Emirates Skyline in 2008, Frankie Dettori completed his hat-trick for the Godolphin organisation when he rode Moonquake to success in the first race of the three day Dante Meeting at York.

Always close to the pace, Moonquake took it up from early leader Road to Love about three furlongs out, and despite late challenges from Checklo and joint favourite Stone of Scoon, Frankie always had a little in reserve, staying on to win by half a length and a length and three quarters respectively.

Evasive to head to Royal Ascot.

Taking into account his interupted and injury ravaged preparation, Sir Michael Stoute has confirmed he was fairly happy with Evasive's eventual sixth place in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket. But after discussing options with owners Cheveley Park Stud, the colt will not be supplemented for the Boylesports Irish 2,000 Guineas at the Curragh, and instead the trainer will prepare his three year old for an assault on either the St James's Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot on 16 June, or alternatively, the seven furlong Jersey Stakes on the following day.

Seasonal debut for Dar re mi.

Although Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's filly Dar re mi would already be a valuable brood mare after securing her second place in last year's Group 2 Prix Vermeille behind the unconquerable Zarkava, connections have decided to test her as a four year old in the Middleton Stakes at York.

The race only has five entrants, but Dar re mi will have to show she is still progressing as a four year old, as she will have to overcome Sir Michael Stoute's Crystal Capella, a filly who ended last season with five straight wins, including the Group 2 Pride Stakes at Goodwood.

If Dar re mi shows she still has an appetite for racing by putting in a good performance in the Middleton Stakes, then connections will enter her in several of the valuable middle distance prizes on offer for older fillies during the remainder of 2009.

Seventy per cent clearence at Dundalk sale.

The Goffs Breeze Up Sale at Dundalk racecourse yesterday saw seventy per cent of the available lots being sold, with a son of Ballydoyle first year sire Antonius Pius and useful filly Green Eyed Lady, being purchased by owner Norman Steel for 42,000 euros.

Punters will face draw dilemma.

Today, York will stage its first meeting following a 2.5 million pound investment programme, which has included the installation of a new high-tec drainage system beneath the running surface of the Knavesmire. As this represents the first meeting since the work was completed, punters will be hoping to get some early clues as to the effect, if any, of the draw.

If any patterns emerge from the afternoon, you will be able to read about it in tomorrow's News Section on Racingsight.

Free Agent to miss Dante.

Connections are reported to be siding with caution over running the Queen's Free Agent so soon after his foot injury, and therefore, the decision has been made to withdraw the three year old from tomorrow's Group 2 Dante Stakes, and his most likely option will now be a run in the Listed Cocked Hat Stakes at Good wood next week.

Injury sidelines Walsh for summer jumping campaign.

Initially shrugging off a sore ankle after his fall from the ill-fated Imperial Hills in Sunday's Ladbrokes Odds On Loyalty Card Hurdle at Killarney, Ruby Walsh eventually had to seek medical help as the problem appeared to become more troublesome, and after an x-ray examination, the jockey discovered he was walking around on a broken left ankle.

The injury will sideline Ruby for up to six weeks, and apart from missing the current summer jumping campaign, there are doubts Walsh will be fit in time to ride the Willie Mullins entries in the French Championship Meeting at Autueil in June.

Quinn treating race riding as a hobby.

Having not been seen on a race track since October 2008, when asked by a Racing Post representative yesterday as to whether he had given up race riding for good, forty seven year old Richard Quinn re-confirmed his earlier statement,

"I now treat race riding as a hobby, and yes, I will probably reapply for a riding license in due course, but it will be when and if I want to do it".

Bravehearted welcom at Excellent Hamilton Friday Night Meeting.

In conjunction with Home Coming Scotland, Hamilton Park racecourse will this Friday evening stage their excellent Braveheart race meeting.

Apart from exhibitions of Scottish history, dancing and the essential pipe bands, there will be a whole range of activities for the whole family to enjoy.

The racing is not bad either! A card worth one hundred and twenty thousand pounds in total features the newly sponsored £52,000 Listed Totepool Glasgow Stakes, and the Class 1 McGrattan Piling Braveheart Stakes worth £42,000 in total prize money.
