Mac Love upsets the odds again.

Just like in the Diomed Stakes at the Epsom Derby meeting earlier in the season, old campaigner Mac Love upset the odds in this afternoon's Group 3 Sovereign Stakes at Salisbury. According to the bookmakers, the race was a 'walk-over' for the odds on favourite Confront, but once more, Mac Love had not read the script, coming with a late run andscoring at odds of 25/1.

Fabre wins his eighth Prix Minerve.

Trainer Andre Fabre continued his superb record in Deauville's Prix Minerve when Kalla, a well bred daughter of Monsun, held on to victory in this afternoon's Group 3 contest.

Galloping over her rivals in the home straight, the filly kept enough in reserve to score by a short head from the determined late challenge from Peinteur Rare.

elite Racing Club mourn loss of New Seeker.

Long term members of the Elite Racing Club are today morning the loss of nine year old New Seeker, who has had to be euthanised due to a serious pelvic injury.

A winner of three Listed races, including the Leicestershire Stakes, New Seeker was best known for his two wins in the Totesport International Stakes in 2003 and 2005, and apart from the fun he gave them, New Seeker was also responsible for bulging the pockets of club members with good priced wins over the years.

Changingoftheguard guaranteed Ebor place.

With Daraahem, the Barry Hills trained Chester Cup winner today defecting from the line-up for next week's Totesport sponsered Ebor Handicap, it not only means the Godolphin trained Covert Ambition becomes top weight with 9 stone 9 pounds, it also means Aidan O'Brien's long time anti post favourite Changingoftheguard is now guaranteed a place in the race, and this will almost certainly see the Ballydoyle three year old supported into an even shorter price than his current 4/1.

Casual Conquest decision due tomorrow morning.

The weather is to be the determining factor in Dermot Weld's decision as to where he runs his Casual Conquest over the next few days. Rain is forecast for today and tomorrow, and this could change the current going at York, in which case Sea The Stars becomes a very unlikely runner in the Juddmonte International, and this could leave the door open for Casual Conquest to miss his Sunday engagement in the Group 2 Royal Whip Stakes at the Curragh, preferring instead to take his chance at York.

However, Weld is aware too much delay is unfair on the Curragh and anti post punters alike, so he has confirmed today he will itemise Casual Conquest's preferred option by Friday lunchtime.

Kite Wood run is ground dependant.

Yesterday, we were the first to break the news Kite Wood would run in the one mile five furlong Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes at Newbury this Saturday, rather than the Great Voltigeur at York next week.

Today, we can confirm the three year old will only line-up this weekend if the ground does not become too soft.

If the Kingdom of Barhrain Stakes winner does compete on Saturday, he is likely to face eight rivals, including; four year old Godolphin stable mate Age of Reason, the Michael Jarvis trained All The Aces, and Goodwood Cup runner-up Mourilyan, who is competing in the Geoffrey Freer rather than carrying top weight in the Totesport Ebor next week.

Our 'one to watch' a confirmed runner.

Earlier in the week, due to his progressive nature, we picked out Roger Charlton's Border Patrol as the 'one to watch' if he lined up in this weekend's seven furlong Group 2 Hungerford Stakes. At today's 48 hour decleration stage, he is still amongst the 14 declared runners, and we are informed some shrewd punters have already had significant each way wagers on the progressive three year old.

York's loss could become Curragh's gain.

If forecast rain at the end of this weekmakes the going at York unsuitable for Sea The Stars to participate in next Tuesday's Juddmonte International Stakes, then if ground conditions at the Curragh are good or better, he could next re-appear in a much anticipated re-match with Fame and Glory in the Irish Champion Stakes on 05 September.

John Oxx has made it plain his son of Cape Cross is not at his best on ground with cut, so connections are determined not to fall into the trap of running just for the sake of the prize money, but rather, they would prefer to give the world's top rated racehorse the opportunity to add to his Group 1 haul on ground conditions which are conducive to him giving of his best - and if Fame and Glory can beat Sea The Stars on those terms, then he will deserve the accolades for such an achievement!

Glass Harmonium heading to France.

For punters interested in French racing, Sir Michael Stoute makes no secret of the fact he regards Hampton Court Stakes winner Glass Harmonium as a major prospect, so a trip to Deauville for this Sunday's Group 2 Prix Guillaume D'Ornano is not likely to be a frivolous away day for this progressive type.

News from the Stoute stable ahead of York.

- Sir Michael Stoute has apparently expressed his concern that in this year's Nunthorpe Stakes, two year old entrant Radio Head may do to Kingsgate Native what the latter did to his elders in the 2007 running of the Group 1 five furlong sprint. In reverse image of the 2007 race, Norfolk Stakes victor Radio Head receives 24 pounds off Sir Michael's current race favourite Kingsgate Native, and the trainer believes this could be a major handicap to his runner obtaining a second success in the Nunthorpe.

- In the Totesport Ebor, Sir Michael has confirmed Warringah will be his only entrant, as three year old Saptapadi has suffered a training setback, and will now be allocated a new target later in the season.

- Great Voltigeur Stakes favourite Harbinger was very impressive in a final gallop ahead of next week's race, and the progressive three year old is known to be fancied by Sir Michael to land the York prize ahead of possibly doubling the trainer's success rate in the Doncaster St Leger.

Famous Name to seek hat-trick.

Having already won at the Curragh on two occasions so far this season, the Dermot Weld trained Famous Name will try to complete his hat-trick in this Sunday's Group 3 Desmond Stakes. Speaking earlier today about his charge, Weld said,

"We have managed to find the kind of consistancy in his performances this year which were patently missing last year. He is in fine condition, and providing he gets no problems in running, I would expect him to complete his hat-trick this Sunday."

Tizzard planning Irish campaign for Joe Lively.

Handler Colin Tizzard believes, with a handicap rating of 165, his ten year old Leatherby and Christopher Chase winner Joe Lively would have limited opportunities for success in Britain during the upcoming national hunt season, as he would almost certainly keep bumping into either Kauto Star or Denman in major British steeplechases. With this in mind, Tizzard has confirmed he therefore intends to give Joe Lively a campaign which will take in several of the major chases in the Irish racing calendar.

Frankie to miss out on Delegator ride.

Despite yesterday winning a Salisbury Nursery on the Godolphin trained Frozen Power, jockey Frankie Dettori picked up a four day Careless Riding ban from the Salisbury stewards, and the suspension means he will miss the opportunity to partner Delegator when he has his first outing for Godolphin in Goodwood's Celebration Mile at the end of this month.

However, if rumours are to be believed, Dettori intends to appeal against the Salisbury stewards ban, but based on other such appeals by leading jockeys during the current season, he will need cast iron reasons why the BHA Disciplinary Panel should overturn his objection.

A fresh start for Hogmaneigh.

In an attempt to re-vitalise the stalled career of their six year old sprinter Hogmaneigh, owners Lucille and Sandy Bone are reported to have moved their charge from Stuart Williams's yard at Newmarket to Jim Goldie's stables in Scotland.

Chinese White returns to form at Gowran Park.

A one time fancy for the 2008 Epsom Oaks, Chinese White had not won since May of that year, when she scored at Gowran Park, and perhaps the return to the course rekindled old abilities, for in last evening's Listed EBF Hurry Harriet Stakes she reeled in the Ballydoyle trained Roman Empress in the final furlong to score her first victory in sixteen months. There can be no doubting the merit of her win, for Pat Flynn's hat-trick seeking She's Our Mark was back in third place, but the big question will be as to whether Chinese White can now recapture winning ways on other racecourses.

Chinese White's trainer Dermot Weld certainly thinks his four year old filly is back to her best, for he said after last evening's win,

"As she had not had an outing since May, we were not sure if she would need the run, but she certainly showed her true potential, and we may consider going for the Group 1 Prix de L'Opera on Arc day at Longchamp."
