Musselburgh reduce entry price for extra fixture.

Having lost yesterday's meeting to frost, Musselburgh officials are delighted to have been given permission by the BHA to stage an additional national hunt racing card on Friday 20 February. They are so delighted, they have reduced the normal £15 admission price to just £10 for the additional meeting.

Voy Por Ustedes to face four rivals.

Based on today's forty eight hour declerations, former Queen Mother Champion Chaser Voy Por Ustedes will face four rivals in Saturday's Betfair Ascot Chase. The remaining four rivals being; the Paul Nicholls trained novice Gwanako, David Pipe's Tamarinbleu, Nigel Twiston Davies's Nowhere, and Bob Butler's progressive The Sawyer.

This may be a small field, but a case can be made for all five entrants, and if Voy Por Ustedes can return to winning ways over this trip of two miles and five furlongs, he will certainly tighten his grip on favouritism for the Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.

Monet's Garden, who has won and finished second in the Ascot race in the last two years, was pulled from this year's running due to the predicted heavy going. Trainer Nicky Richards has indicated his Grade One winner will probably go to the Ryanair at Cheltenham if the going is no worse than good to soft.

Mighty Man still on course for suprise return.

Henry Daly has reported his former high class long distance hurdler Mighty Man has returned to galloping, and is still on track to make a remarkable comeback in this year's World Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Bearing in mind the gelding suffered a ruptured tendon at the Punchestown Festival in April 2007, then any return to racing action is an infrequent, but welcome outcome.

However, the trainer is keeping his feet firmly on the ground,

"We are taking it one day at a time as we gradually step up his work, but if he stays on schedule, I expect him to run in this year's World Hurdle".

Welcome sponsorship offered by one of our Partner Hotels.

One of Racingsight's recommended Partner Hotels, the Crown Plaza Dundalk, is for the second year in a row, to sponsor the competition for the top jockey and trainer at Dundalk All Weather Stadium during 2009.

The jockey and trainer achieving the highest number of wins between the first meeting on 27 February and the final meeting on 27 November, will be presented with a trophy, and a cash prize, the latter item to be presented to the chosen charity of the winner in each category.

Seventeen still go to post for Haydock Gold Cup.

At today's forty eight hour decleration stage for the Bluesquare Haydock Gold Cup, seventeen horses remain in the three mile four furlong recognised trial for the Aintree Grand National.

At the top of the weights are Welsh Grand National winner Miko de Beauchene, and last year's actual Grand National winner Comply or Die. But it has to be said, both of them have had disappointing season's so far, and they will have to completely reverse their current form if they are to carry eleven stone twelve pounds to victory in the Haydock mud.

Betfair pink it up at Ascot.

Having recently signed a multi million pound sponsorship deal with Ascot Racecourse, Betfair have decided to 'pink it up' at this Saturday's Betfair Ascot Chase fixture.

As the meeting co-incides with Valentines Day, the firm are placing pink benches on the racecourse, and any couple who pop the question on one of the benches will ensure Betfair will pay for their wedding cake.

So as to ensure all of the Ascot spectators can join in the Valentines festivities, Betfair are issuing fliers to all interested spectators, and if participants can matcha flier of Kauto Star with a flier of Ruby Walsh, they can qualify for a free ticket to the King George meeting later in the year.

Chepstow receives unexpected green light.

It took two inspections, but in a suprise outcome, today's meeting at Chepstow has been given the go ahead. This will bring real relief to the officials at the South Wales track, as Chepstow has lost more than its fair share of fixtures to rain, snow and frost over the last twelve months.

Kelso cancelled.

The lack of racing at Kelso continues. With this morning's abandonment due to snow and frost, the course has not staged a meeting since November, and this is a testiment to the on-going severity of this current winter and its devastating effect on racing fixtures.

Former victors remain in Champion Hurdle reckoning.

At the latest forfeit stage for the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle, former victors Brave Inca, Catch It, Hardy Eustace and Sublimity remain among the twenty eight declared runners.

Colm Murphy has confirmed Brave Inca will tackle the Champion rather than the World Hurdle, while Dessie Hughes is hoping a return to his beloved Cheltenham will give Hardy Eustace a fresh bounce after his early season good form dissolved into disappointment in his last two runs. Similarly, Alan King is hoping a holiday from racing and a return to Cheltenham will revitalise last year's Champion Catch It.

Of the four former champions, it is sublimity were the vibes are most positive. Trainer Gordon Elliot believes a return to Cheltenham and potential good going will suit his former champion, and he is bullish about his horse's chances in this year's race.

Pitman in suprise return to former base.

In a move which has suprised many racing pundits, Mark Pitman has returned to Weathercock House after a three year exile in Spain. The former incumbent trainer at the racing yard, Pitman handed over to Carl Llewellyn in 2006, but it seems he has now returned as the assistant trainer to the popular former national hunt jockey.

Mullins confirms Deloitte pair.

Willie Mullins has confirmed stable mates Hurrican Fly and Cousin Vinny will re-oppose in this Sunday's rescheduled Deloitte Novices Hurdle at Leopardstown. When the two met earlier in the season, Hurrican Fly proved too good for last year's Cheltenham Champion Bumper winner, but trainer Mullins believes Cousin Vinny is a progressive type, and he expects the distance between his two novice stars to be much less decisive on this occasion.

The outcome of Sundday's race could be quite significant to the anti post betting market for the Cheltenham Supreme Novices Hurdle, as the two rivals occupy the first two positions in the current market, so a clear win for either could see that horse's price shorten dramatically for the opening race of the Cheltenham Festival.

BHA finding difficulty in rescheduling top races.

Despite having success in rescheduling the Aon Chase from Newbury as the Levy Board Chase at Kempton Park, the British Horseracing Authority still need to find new homes for the possible running of Newbury's Game Spirit and Kingmaker Chases. With the prevailing snow and frost, this is difficult enough, but if Ascot and Haydock fall to bad weather conditions at the weekend, BHA officials will also have to find alternative venues for the Betfair Ascot Chase, The Bluesquare Haydock Gold Cup, and the Reynoldstown Hurdle.

Finding alternative venues is only half the problem, for with the Cheltenham Festival fast approaching, due to fitness concerns, many trainers will be reluctant to run their good horses so near to a major festival. The only exception to this may be a rescheduled Game Spirit Chase, for Masterminded may frighten off so many horses from competing in the Queen Mother Champion Chase, they may all seek solace in competing for first prize in a rescheduled Game Spirit Chase where Masterminded is a guaranteed non-runner.
