Scoop Sicx rolls over again.

The 3.10 pm at Goodwood saw the demise of all interest in this week's Scoop Six Bet, and the Win and Bonus Fund pots will roll forward again, giving an expected combined pool of around half a million pounds for any single winner next week.

Full details on the exact ammounts involved will be posted in tomorrow morning's news section.

Tamagin gets well deserved Listed victory.

Tamagin has been knocking on the door all season in major handicaps, but his large weight burden has stopped him from getting his head in front. So his win in this afternoon's Starlit Stakes at Goodwood provided a well deserved Listed success as he prevailed from Mac Gillie Eoin and Mullein.

However, Richard Hannon must now be very concerned as to what has gone wrong with JJ the Jetplane, for he flopped again in a grade were he would be expected to win with relative ease.

Kingsfort too strong for rivals.

Travelling sweetly throughout the race, the Kevin Prendergast trained Kingsfort ran out a ready winner of the Group 1 Vincent O'brien National Stakes at today's Curragh meeting, holding off a late thrust from runner up Chabal.

This was only Kingsfort's second run, and by maintaining his unbeaten record at the highest level, he now puts himself into the reckoning for next year's Classics.

Race favourite and Phoenix Stakes victor Alfred Nobel was very disappointing, finishing last of the six runners, and his poor performance today casts even more shadows of doubt over the anti post markets for next year's premier three year old races.

Duff makes a successful raid on the Park.

Having lost out to Arabian Gleam in the 2007 running of the Group 2 Park Stakes at Doncaster, the Edward Lynam trained Duff made another profitable raid from his Irish based yard to reverse the fortunes in this year's running of the sseven furlong contest on Town Moor.

Taking it up three furlongs out, Duff stayed next to the stand rail, and held off the late challenges of Cat Junior and his 2007 conqueror Arabian Gleam by a short head and a head.

Alandi holds on from game Clowance.

The Godolphin trained Schiaparelli tried to make all in the Irish Field St Leger at the Curragh, and for most of the contest he looked like he would be successful in his endeavour, but two furlongs from the winning line, with Yeats and Profound Beauty already beaten, Schiapareeli became very weary, and for half a furlong it looked like Roger Charlton's Clowance would have a dream return to the track after a 452 day absence, but Michael Kinane had other ideas, and he drove the Aga Khan owned Alandi alongside the game mare, and eventually proved too strong in the final furlong, with the gallant Clowance having to settle for second position, while Schiaparelli stayed on at one pace for third place in today's Group 1 contest.

Kite Wood cannot hold Mastery in St Leger.

When the Ballydoyle pace maker faded at the three furlong pole of today's extended mile and three quarter St Leger at Doncaster, Frankie Dettori took it up on race favourite Kite Wood, and at the two furlong from home pole, he looked all over the winner. But stable mate Mastery showed the stamina which had gained him third position in a two mile pattern race at Royal Ascot, and under a patient drive from Ted Durkan, he wore Kite Wood down close home, and added another Classic to his portfolio, having already won the Italian Derby earlier in the season.

Mastery also reversed placings with his Great Voltigeur Stakes conqueror Monitor Closely, the latter having to settle for third position over today's longer trip.

Snowqualmie Girl snatches spoils on the line.

Jockey Martin Dwyer must have thought he had done enough to land today's Listed Stand Stakes at Chester. Leading from the start in the extended mile and a half race, he had kept on upping the tempo from the front on favourite Traffic Guard, and although he managed to see off most of his rivals, the Sylvester de Souza ridden bottom weighted Snoqualmie Girl managed to stay in touch, and in the final furlong, the David Elsworth trained filly wore down the race leader, just getting her nose in front as the duo swept past the post.

Maclove continues unbelievable season.

At the tender age of eight, Maclove is having his best ever year, and at Goodwood this afternoon the Stef Lyddiard trained veteran completed his first ever victory at ten furlongs. Coming with a strong run a furlong out, he secured his third Group 3 success of the season when landing the Select Stakes, with short priced favourite Stottsfold having to settle for second position in today's contest.

Santo Padre gains Irish victory in Portland.

Taking it up half a furlong from the line, Jamie Spencer on Every Man For Himself must have thought he had won today's Portland Handicap at Doncaster, but Irish sprinter Santo Padre showed a tremendous burst of accelaration to secure only the second victory by an Irish trained horse in the five and a half furlong ultra competitive race.

Locally trained Captain Dun ran on for third place, with second reserve Green Manalishi securing fourth spot.

Poet's Voice lands Champagne prize.

Watched by owner Sheikh Mohammed, Frankie Dettori led from start to finish on race favourite Poet's Voice in the Group 3 Champagne Stakes, and although he kept on at one pace in the last half furlong, he had built up enough of a lead to hold off the closing duo of Viscount Nelson and Silver Grecian, scoring by three quarters of a length and a head.

While Poet's Voice will probably get a mile as a three year old, the second and third look like they may well be leading middle distance horses during the 2010 turf flat season.

O'Brien expecting explosive performance from Alfred Nobel.

Aidan O'Brien feels he has prepared Alfred Nobel to peak fitness ahead of today's Vincent O'Brien National Stakes at the Curragh, and the trainer is confident the son of Danehill Dancer will follow up on his Phoenix Stakes success with another winning performance at Group 1 level.

Alfred Nobel's main challenge would seem to come from the Kevin Prendergast trained Kingsfort, who was a good winner over course and distance on his only seasonal outing in June, but with three solid wins to his credit, Alfred Nobel seems best placed to pick up today's first prize.

Weld believes Profound Beauty is still progressing.

Dermot Weld is hoping Profound Beauty can become the first female to win the Irish Field St Leger since Kastoria in 2006. The handler is happy with his mares' condition ahead of the race, and he believes she will step up again on her three wins so far this season. Speaking about her chances, Weld commented,

"There is no doubt Yeats is a great horse, but he may struggle on today's going. Schiaparelli has done nothing wrong this season, but on form lines my filly seems to have a better profile. Alandi has improved since Profound Beauty beat him earlier this year, but my filly has also improved, and I am hopeful she will cement the form in today's race."

Breeders Cup organisers offer increase to entice fillies.

The organisers of this year's Breeders Cup Meeting at Santa Anita have made a very attractive offer to the connections of unbeaten fillies Zenyatta and Rachel Alexandra, for if they both take part in this year's Breeders Cup Classic, the prize money will be increased from 2.7 to 3.7 million dollars.

Albeit, this incentive may be of interest to the connections of the older filly Zenyatta, based on previous statements from her connections, even this generous gesture may not be enough to entice Rachel Alexandra to the party.

Asmussen lands five thousandth victory.

When Passion Rules landed the seventh race at Friday's meeting at Woodbine, Steve Asmussen became only the fifth person in North America to train five thousand winners under official rules.
