Police release cctv pictures.

In an attempt to produce some results on the enquiry into a suspected arson attack which left two apprentice jockeys deceased after fire gutted their flat in Norton, Yorkshire Police have today released cctv footage of people seen walking in the area around the site of the blaze.

A police spokesperson said,

"We hope everyone shown in the footage will come forward, if for no other reason than to eliminate themselves from the enquiry, but hopefully the coverage may also jog the memories of people who may have forgotten they were in the area, and may have seen something which could be of use to the on-going enquiry."

Additional fixture announced for Ballinrobe.

Horse Racing Ireland have this afternoon announced Ballinrobe will host an additional race meeting on Sunday 20 September 2009.

The new fixture will feature an all flat racing card, and entries for the meeting must be made by Tuesday 15 September, with final declerations being applied from 18 September.

Tickets for the meeting are available via our website, HRI, or the Ballinrobe website.

Al Zir gives Godolphin second success on the day.

It may have only been a £10,000 race, and Al Zir may have been the 30/100 favourite of only three runners, but the way Frankie Dettori just used hands and heels to give the well regarded Godolphin colt his second easy win, suggests there is much more to come from Al Zir.

However, as he may end up racing in America next year, it is probably premature to put your shirt on him in the 2,000 Guineas anti post market.

Seta becomes the second disappointment of the afternoon.

The Doncaster May Hill Stakes was supposed to be the race which cemented Seta as the winter anti post favourite for the 2010 Newmarket 1,000 Guineas, but just like Geordieland in the proceeding race, the extremely well supported favourite had not read the script.

Luca Cumani's filly played up at the start, and pulled for her head in the early stages of the race, but when she came to head Hibaayeb at the furlong pole, all seemed to be according to plan, but when Kieran Fallon asked for a little more, there was no response, and gradually Hibaayeb managed to get her head back in front, but neither of the leading two had any response when Ryan Moore produced Pollenator with a telling run in the last half furlong, and the daughter of Derby winner Motivator produced enough to score her first Group 2 success, with the gallant 40/1 outsider Hibaayeb running on for second place, and a disappointing Seta having to settle for third.

Askar Tau supreme as Geordieland disappoints.

It all seemed to be going according to plan in today's Group 2 Doncaster Cup, for with two furlongs to travel, three year old Darley Sun seemed to be leading under sufference, and Michael Kinane had cruised from the back on race favourite Geordieland, and had managed to box Ryan Moore on Askar Tau into a pocket on the rail, but when Kinane asked Geordieland to quicken, there was no response. Then Darley Sun drifted far enough from the rail to give Ryan Moore a gap, and Askar Tau quickened willingly to take his opportunity, running out a smart winner from the gallant Darley Sun, with a disappointing Geordieland back in third position.

Based on this performance, Marcus Tregonning's four year old could be the one to beat when he returns as a five year old to compete in the 2010 Gold Cup marathon races.

Godolphin get off the mark in opener.

With important runners in Britain, France and Ireland this weekend, the next few days are vital in analysing the current form of the Godolphin horses prior to the major races at the end of the season, and in the first race on today's card at Doncaster, they could not have obtained a better start.

Riding with supreme confidence throughout the five furlong Group 3 Flying Childers Stakes, Frankie Dettori was happy to sit on the rail behind race favourite Misheer until the two furlong pole, but as soon as he realised he was getting into a troublesome position, he pulled Sand Vixen out from a pocket on the rails, and then accelrating four horses width from the fence, he allowed Sand Vixen to cruise away from the chasing Bold Mover and Mister Mananann.

Despite being eased close home, Sand Vixen set a new two year old course record for the five furlong distance, and the victory showed she is certainly a progressive type, while race favourite Misheer was frankly very disappointing in the closing stages of today's race.

Nanton boosts Ebor form.

In the second race on today's Doncaster card, Ebor Handicap sixth Nanton boosted the chances of the York premier handicap runner up Changingoftheguard for tomorrow's St Leger, for Nanton came from last to first in the last two furlongs of today's extended mile and three quarter handicap, and the way Nanton roared away from his fieldin the last half furlong certainly boosted the chances of Changingoftheguard in tomorrow's Classic.

Tomorrow's Scoop Six details.

Berry picks up Mourayan ride.

With Michael Kinane booked to ride Alandi in tomorrow's Irish Field St Leger at the Curragh, Fran Berry has been selected by John Oxx to ride Mourayan in the St Leger at Doncaster.

Hannon has a change of heart over JJ.

Immediately after his disappointing run in last Saturday's Betfred Sprint Cup, Richard Hannon stated he was going to give JJ the Jetplane a couple of months rest before going to Hong Kong for their valuable end of season sprint races, but it would appear the veteran trainer has had a change of heart, for his South African import is now due to line-up in the Listed Starlit Stakes during tomorrow's card at Goodwood.

Murtagh skips Down Royal rides.

In an interesting development, Johnnie Murtagh decided to forgo his three rides at Down Royal today to ensure he is in top condition for his rides at Doncaster on Saturday afternoon. It is just over a week ago since Murtagh suffered a tumble at Dundalk, and today's decision does pose some interesting questions as to his fitness.

Reserves gain access to Portland Handicap starting line-up.

With Jim Goldie's Sea Leave being declared lame, and Richard Price withdrawing Haydock winner Cheveton due to the fast going, the two reserves for tomorrow's Doncaster Portland Handicap, Nick Littmoden's Orpsie Boy and Kevin Ryan's Green Manalishi, are now both included in the new twenty two horse line-up for Saturday's ultra competitive five furlong contest.

Chapple Hyam bullish about Monitor Closely.

Peter Chapple Hyam is reported to be very happy with the preparation of his Great Voltigeur winner Monitor Closely ahead of tomorrow's St Leger at Doncaster. The handler's only concern is over stamina,

"He is a son of Oasis Dream, and they are not known for their staying ability, but he ran a better race over the longer Great Voltigeur trip than his fourth in the Dante over an extended ten furlongs. He is in exceptionally good condition, and the fast going at Doncaster is ideal, so we are feeling very positive about his chances at the moment."

For those who do not believe in co-incidences, it is also interesting to note, Peter Chapple Hyam is the guest on Saturday's Channel 4 Morning Line programme.

Callaghan moving training operation to Santa Anita.

Simon Callaghan, who took over at his Newmarket base from his father Neville Callaghan in 2008, has decided he wants to carry on his training career based at Santa Anita in California, and with the backing of owners such as Michael Tabor and Ben Sangster, he will move to his new facilities in November of this year, with the intention of starting off with a twenty strong string in 2010.

Kilbeggan passes early morning inspection.

The improving weather situation is starting to bring a host of positives to Irish racing fixtures after a series of very difficult weeks, and another positive came about this morning when Kilbeggan passed its early morning inspection, thus allowing racing to go ahead today, albeit on heavy ground.

Cavalryman to face six in Prix Niel.

Godolphin's best hope of winning this year's Prix de L'ARc de Triomphe would seem to lay with the Andre Fabre trained Cavalryman. A good winner of the Grand Prix de Paris, the three year old is lightly raced due to his preference for some cut in the ground, but connections are said to be very keen on his chances when he lines up against six rivals in this Sunday's Prix Niel at Longchamp, and another good performance could see a cut in his current 12/1 anti post price for the 'Arc'.

Listowel to alter running order.

Although a track inspection on Thursday gave clearance for the Listowel Festival to begin on Sunday as scheduled, Horse Racing Ireland have taken note of the current heavy underfoot conditions at the track, and in an attempt to allow the current drying weather to have more effect, they have decided to make alterations to the running order of the second and third days of the Festival. Monday 14 September will now become a full card of national hunt racing, while Tuesday 15 September will be made up entirely of flat races.

Full details on declerations and running orders are available from Horse Racing Ireland.

All change in final stages of Fairy Bridge Stakes.

Thursday evening's Listed Fairy Bridge Stakes had been salvaged and transferred from the lost Tipperary card on Wednesday, but in heavy ground, the race went ahead as part of an extended eight race card on the Tipperary course, and the betting exchanges must have been delighted with the outcome, for the in running gamblers witnessed no less than four leaders in the final furlong and a half.

Initially it looked as if David Wachman's Latin Love would prevail, but she weakened quickly on the testing ground. Then Fiery Red took it up at the furlong pole, only to give way to Pollen, but just when it seemed the race was secure, Declan McDonogh came with a withering run on Kevin Prendergast's Choose Me, and the latter ran on strongly to score by a length and three quarters from the one paced Pollen.
