Hits Only Vic who grabs Silver Cup.
For the second time in the afternoon, champion jockey Ryan Moore tried to make all aboard his mount in a major York race, but once again, his tactics aboard Warringah in the John Smiths Extra Smooth Silver Cup just failed to pay off.
Warringah had led for virtually every yard of the Listed one and three quarter mile contest, but the pair were pipped on the post by the late finishing Hits Only Vic, with Magical Mystery Tour a close up third in what turned out to be a fine tussle between the three horses over the closing stages.
The victory for the sixteen to one priced Hits Only Vic ended the chances of the two remaining punters involved in the Scoop Six Bet, and means a combined pool of over 1.2 million pounds will roll forward to next week.
Famous Name may now head to France.
Having had an easy two length victory over Staying On in this afternoon's Keeneland International Stakes at the Curragh, trainer Dermot Weld indicated Famous Name may now be aimed at the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville's major August meeting.
Borderlescot proves his toughness in City Walls.
Race favourite Borderlescot had a troubled run through the first four furlongs of the five furlong Listed City Walls Stakes at Chester's Rooddee racecourse, but when the gap appeared in the final furlong, he proved he is as sharp at seven as in his earlier years, for he shot up the running rail to deny rivals Captain Gerard and Hoh hoh hoh in the final strides of today's very competitive renewal of this classy sprint.
Improving Barrons runner victorious in fiftieth John Smiths Cup.
Ryan Moore tried to make all on Her Majesty the Queen's Kingdon of Fife in today's fiftieth running of the John Smiths Cup at York, and apart from one rival, the tactic nearly proved to be sound. But the David Barrons trained Sirvino has shown improvement all season, and he collared Kingdom of Fife at the furlong pole, before overhauling the Zetland Gold Cup winner over the final stages of today's ten and a half furlong contest.
Richard Fahey's Albaqaa ran on for third position, with Seeking the Buck never nearer in fourth place.
Aqlaam snatches very close Ascot Mile.
Confront made a brave attempt to lead from start to finish in today's Group Two Ascot Mile, but he was just nabbed on the line by the improving Aqlaam, with South African raider Imbongi a close third.
The disappointment of the race was normal Ascot specialist Cesare, who never showed today after his excellent second in the Queen Anne Stakes at the Royal Meeting.
Regal Parade just to good for Balthazaars Gift.
Chester's first race of the day, the Listed City Plate, witnessed Regal Parade get first run in the home straight, and although race favourite Balthazaars Gift made headway over the last furlong, he was not good enough on the day to peg back the 2008 Ayr Gold Cup winner.
Alternative options being considered for Paco Boy.
Following his fast finish in the July Cup, connections are debating whether to revert Paco Boy to the mile trip for the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood, or whether to consider an option over a shorter trip in France.
Trainer Richard Hannon has indicated he would only consider the Sussex Stakes if the ground is on the firm side of good, and if this is not the situation at the end of the month, he might decide to run his stable star over the six and a half furlong trip of the Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville on 09 August.
Good news for Take Over Target connections.
It seems the operation to repair the fractured canon bone of Australian sprint favourite Take Over Target has been successful at Newmarket's Equine Veterinarian Centre, and this must come as a great relief to trainer Joe Janiak and the connections of the very popular ten year old Australian sprinter.
Having discovered the injury after his typically tenacious seventh in Friday's July Cup at Newmarket,, Janiak had feared the worst, but after a complicated procedure, which included inserting five screws into the injured bone, the news appears to suggest the sprinter will make a full recovery after about two months of box rest at his Newmarket stables.
However, Janiak has officially confirmed Take Over Target has now run his last race, and can now look forward to a restful retirement after his recovery from injury.
Legal representative lashes BHA handling of Turner medical ban.
Justin Wadham, who represented Hayley Turner at her successful appeal against the twelve month medical ban from racing imposed by the BHA, has today lashed out at the racing authority's handling of the whole affair. Wadham said,
"Hayley should have had a rolling three month ban, which would have then allowed for early re-assessment of her medical circumstances. Instead, the BHA adopted an eccentric position which showed total lack of common sense, and it was inevitable her ban would be overturned, as indeed, it was last Thursday evening". Wadham added, "It is only my personal opinion, but I feel the BHA has lost touch with the external racing profession, and that has manifested itself in some of their recent decisions. If the sport's racing authority is to maintain its respect with the British racing industry, it must now take a look at some of its decision making processes".
Godolphin add Long Lashes in current spending spree.
Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin organisation have now added the Jessica Harrington trained Ballygallon Stud winner Long Lashes to their list of recent acquisitions.
While the other new acquisitions; Delegator, Evasive and Jealous Again will almost certainly race during the rest of the current flat season, there are no plans to race Long Lashes, and she may be prepared for a campaign in Dubai during the spring of 2010.

With today's Totesport Scoop Six Win Fund standing at £532,329, and with a Bonus Fund already amounting to £430,341, a single winner of the next two weeks combined pots could pick up around one and a quarter million pounds after today's stakes are added to the overall totals.

Leading the French challenge will be the Aga Khan's Beheshtam, the latter hoping to return to form at Longchamp, after only finishing fourth in the French Derby at Chantilly.
Murtagh to miss Goodwood date.
Johnnie Murtagh had already fallen foul of the stewards at two previous major British race meetings this season, and after picking up another four day ban for Careless Riding during this week's Newmarket July Meeting, the Ballydoyle number one will now miss the first day of Glorious Goodwood on 28 July.
However, Murtagh will now have to watch his tactics, for yet another ban this season could see him having a long holiday under the totting up rules.
