Single winner picks up Scoop Six.

A single £2 ticket today picked up the Win Fund of £671,136 on the Scoop Six, and the Betfair punter, who staked a total of £28, now goes forward to next Saturday with the possibility of landing a further £287,630 on the Bonus Fund - Well done that person!

Kaldoun Kingdom adds Coral to Silver.

Given another perfectly timed run by young jockey Barry McHugh, the Richard Fahey trained Kaldoun Kingdom followed up on his Ayr Silver Cup victory by landing this afternoon's Coral Sprint at York's final flat meeting of 2009.

Brought with a brilliantly timed late run, Kaldoun Kingdom proved his love for some cut in the ground as he stormed clear of the field over the final furlong. Chevertton also stayed on for the runners up spot, while Hitchins just pipped Green Manalishi for third place.

After the race, trainer Richard Fahey admitted he had been considering gelding Kaldoun Kingdom, during the winter break, but his recent improvement and movement up the ranks has now put this option out of his mind, particularly as the trainer thinks his charge may now win at least a Listed race in time.

Jarvis horses snatch 1 - 2 in ladbrokes.com Handicap.

When Frankie Dettori gets on the bottom weight in a major handicap at his favourite track of Ascot, it is virtually a guarantee his mount will go close, and so it proved in today's ladbrokes.com Heritage Handicap. Always cruising throughout today's mile and a half contest, his mount Opinion Poll eased alongside front running stable companion Kings Destiny at the furlong pole, and when asked, Dettori's mount accelarated away to land today's valuable prize.

Kings Destiny stayed on strongly for second, with Sunrise Safari and Pevancy taking the minor honours .

Since Michael Jarvis had his recent heart surgery, his horses have been winning for fun in handicap company, and what better medicine could there be for a recouperating trainer.

Owner lands quick fire big race double.

The personable Dr Marwan Koukash this afternoon had the pleasure of a tremendous across the card double when his Our Johnathan landed the Group 3 Willmott Dixon Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot under an inspired bit of riding from Jamie Spencer, and then Eddie Ahern scorched clear on Layla's Hero in the Listed Rockingham Stakes at York.

Spencer seemed to use up the full width of the Berkshire track as he weaved Our Jonathan around his rivals, before getting up close home to deny race favourite Taajub, with Iver Bridge Lad staying on for third.

At York, things were more plain sailing as Eddie Ahern conjured a spectacular late run from Layla's Hero, with the youngster showing a great turn of foot to scorch clear of Cool Minx and Never The Waiter in the final furlong of today's Listed six furlong contest.

Based on the difficulty Eddie Ahern had in pulling up Layla's Hero after the finishing line, the two year old, who only cost £9,000 guineas as a yearling, will certainly get a longer trip in due course.

Royal Rock crushes Triple Aspect aspirations.

In today's Group 3 Bengough Memorial Stakes at Ascot, race favourite Triple Aspect seemed to have done everything right as he grabbed the lead at the furlong pole, but George Baker on the Chris Wall trained Royal Rock had other ideas, and over the final furlong Baker pushed and urged his mount into a narrow lead, and try as he might, three year old Triple Aspect could not summon enough to regain the initiative before the winning line.

Brave Prospector ran his usual consistant race, and held on well in the closing stages to take third place in today's six furlong pattern race.

Workhorse to get early winter break.

Prince Khalid Abdullah's well regarded Workhorse has been sent on an early winter break. A six length winner of his maiden at Goodwood, the form of the race has been superbly franked by runner up Oasis Dancer going on to winning last Saturday's Tattersalls Million Sales Race at Newbury.

Speaking on behalf of the Prince, racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe said,

"He is a rangy colt, and we feel he will be better served by being given the time to develop into his frame. He will not race again this season, but all being well, he will go on the Classic route in the spring."

Channon sending Halicarnassus on another foreign raid.

Having won the Group 2 Bospherus Cup on firm ground in Turkey earlier this year, Mick Channon is hoping Halicarnassus will meet similar conditions when he competes in the Premio del Jockey Club in Milan on 18 October. Discussing the projected raid for his five year old, Channon said,

"As he proved in Turkey, he has to have fast ground to be at his best, and with the ground in Britain now on the turn, I feel if he is to snatch another big prize it is going to have to be somewhere were he can hear his feet rattle, and with Dubai still several months off, Milan is our best hope at the present."

Nicholls lining up Gold quartet.

Paul Nicholls currently has four of his chasers lined up for the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham on 14 November. For owner Andy Stewart he is preparing Tatenen, Poquelin, and Nycteos, while the David Johnson owned Chapoturgeon could be another possible runner.

Speaking earlier today, Andy Stewart said,

"Tatenen will be our number one entrant, but if Poquelin can win the two and a half mile chase at Cheltenham next weekend, it should give him the raise in the weights to ensure his participation in the Paddy Power. Paul tells me all the horses are in good condition, and we are looking forward to them picking up prizes during the upcoming season."

Toufan Express all the rage.

Since being dropped back in distance from a mile to six furlongs, the Adrian McGuinness trained Toufan Express has reeled off two successive victories, the latest being a competitive twenty nine runner handicap at the Curragh. Add to this recent good form a suspicion he is well handicapped, and Racing Post's Pricewise has chosen him this morning, then it is not suprising to learn, he is the best supported horse in this morning's betting markets.

Williams wants more cut for Cappa Blue.

Although entered in novice chases at Bangor and Chepstow, trainer Evan Williams has decided not to risk Cheltenham Foxhunters winner Cappa Blue on today's ground, preferring instead to wait until underfoot conditions exhibit more cut.

Delegator likely to lose Celebration Mile.

The blood sample taken from Delegator following his win in Goodwood's Celebration Mile has proved positive for a banned substance, and if, as seems likely, his second sample also proves positive, then the Godolphin acquisition seems likely to lose his only high profile success of the season.

Gibson kicks off final weekend with a winner.

Dale Gibson was the centre of attention when finishing joint first on Jeannie Galloway at Friday's first day of York's final two day meeting of the 2009 season. The jockey is ending his career today at York, the racecourse where he had his first ever ride twenty four years ago, and although his rides today do not seem promising, he made no mistake on yesterday's ride for local in form trainer Richard Fahey.

Needless to say, Gibson was mobbed in the winners enclosure after his success, and there was no mistaking the fact his fellow professional's were obviously delighted for their retiring colleague.

Forty seven years to the day.

For the racing history buffs amongst you, it is exactly forty seven years to the day since Hurst Park racecourse closed to racing in 1962. The former site near Gatwick is now the home of a supermarket, a primary school and gardens.
