Fleeting Spirit picks up a deserved Group One success.
For a long way in today's Darley July Cup it seemed the pace setting Main Aim may have run his rivals off their feet, and even when the filly Fleeting Spirit came to land her challenge at 'the bushes', Main Aim started to run on again, but despite some minor scrimmaging, which later necessitated a stewards enquiry, the filly had enough in reserve to be the deserved winner of her first Group One sprint.
South African entrant J J the Jetplane ran a sound race for third place, while fourth placed Paco Boy was doing all his best work at the finish, perhaps showing the six furlong trip is now a tad on the short side for a proven Group One winner over a mile.

Over a few days were Fergal Lynch has escaped with a fine, and Darren Williams a three month ban for some of the most serious breaches of the trust of racing, many people may think trainer Nicky Henderson has not been unfairly treated by losing the right to enter horses for three months for using a banned substance.
However, in truth, Henderson was not using a substance to deliberately improve the racing position of his horse, and in light of the other BHA Disciplinary Panel decisions, the Henderson judgement seems to me, more severe. Admittedly, Nicky Henderson has had an impeccable record, and is often illuminated as one of the 'good guys' of horseracing, so perhaps the BHA thought they had to make more of a statement over his behaviour. But certainly, from my point of view, I truly hope his owners will stay loyal to a man who I believe to be intrinsicly 'honest'!
