Carlisle success opens up Irish raids for Money Trix.

Running only his tenth career start in this afternoon's Weatherbys Bank Graduation Chase at Carlisle, the Nicky Richards trained Money Trix took it up at the second last, and then ground out a six length success over Companero by the time he passed the winning line.

Held in high regard by his trainer, nine-year-old Money Trix is undoubtedly talented, but he has to be handled with 'kid gloves' if he is to be kept healthy and on the track. But Richards believes racing his charge on soft ground is the key to his well-being, and after this afternoon's victory on soft ground at Carlisle, Money Trix could now be raced predominantly in Ireland, with the Grade 1 Lexus Chase as his main target during the current season.

Our Vic heads Paddy Power confirmations.

David Pipe has decided to leave 2005 Paddy Power Gold Cup winner Our Vic amongst the twenty five confirmed entries at today's five day stage, and while Our Vic has to handle top weight, stable mate I'msolucky would seem to have a fair mark from the handicapper.

Paul Nicholls has left in three of the fancied horses; Chapoturgeon, course and distance winner Poquelin, and recent Wetherby winner Tatenen. While fellow West Country trainer Nigel Twiston Davies is doubly represented by Nowhere and Ballyfitz.

Irish representation is three fold, with Tony Martin's Northern Alliance and Edward O'Grady's Tranquil Sea joined by Noel Meade's Jaamid.

Other interesting runners appear to be Alan King's Taratino, and Nicky Henderson's enigmatic but certainly talented mare My Petra.

Starluck in name only.

After today's latest decleration stage, course and distance winner Starluck has been left at the top of the weights for Sunday's Greatwood Hurdle at Cheltenham.

However, with high profile withdrawals ensuring Starluck has to carry 11 stone twelve pounds , Alan Fleming is likely to find an alternative race for his four-year-old, with Haydock on 21 November, or the Fighting Fifth at Newcastle on 28 November as distinct possibilities.

The bookmakers seem to think Starluck is a definite non-runner in the Greatwood, and Alan King's Supreme Novices Hurdle runner up Medermit and Irish raider Raise Your Heart are the most popular amongst the twenty eight remaining entries for the Graded Hurdle.

Hennessy now on radar for War of Attrition.

Mouse Morris was delighted with War of Attrition's third place in Saturday's jnwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal, and the 2006 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner has come out of the race in such good shape, connections are now giving serious consideration to allowing their charge to line up in the Hennessy Gold Cup at the end of the month.

War of Attrition has come down in the weights since his halcyion days, and with 2008 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Denman expected to carry top weight, War of Attrition could get into the Grade 3 contest on a very handy mark.

Murphy may have to run Voler la Vedette.

Having completed her seventh victory in eight outings when disposing of this year's Supreme Novice Hurdle winner Go Native at Down Royal on Friday, Voler la Vedette has returned home so well, trainer Colm Murphy is having to rethink his original plan for the mare.

"I was not going to run her again until Christmas, but she is bouncing, and if I don't find her a race she could sit at home and get herself fat. I suppose we will have to step her up in grade again, so we might have a look at a couple of races in England."

Henderson delaying debuts for stable stars.

Although both Binocular and Barber Shop are reported to be in fine condition, Nicky Henderson seems to think they both require some additional work prior to receiving their respective seasonal debuts. In light of this opinion, Binocular will not take on Hurrican Fly in next weekend's Morgiana Hurdle at Punchestown, and instead will be re-introduced either at the end of November or the beginning of December.

Barber Shop will by-pass next Saturday's Paddy Power Gold Cup, and instead will have the daunting task of taking on Kauto Star in the Betfair Chase at Haydock Park on 21 November.

Rainbow view to stay in America.

Group 1 Matron Stakes winner Rainbow view is to leave the care of John Gosden and will now stay in America. Following her fifth place in the Breeders Cup Ladies race on her first attempt on a synthetic surface, owner George Strawbridge has decided his three-year-old filly will move to trainer Jonathan Shepherd's yard where she will become a natural replacement for Forever Together, with the five-year-old former Breeders Cup winner being retired to stud.

Thornton confident but King slightly concerned.

While Robert Thornton has been telling the Racing Post the well fancied Taratino has been working well and is trained specifically for Saturday's Paddy Power Gold Cup, trainer Alan King is believed to be anxious his horses are not firing at the moment, and this gives him doubts over the apparent chances of Taratino in Saturday's two and a half mile contest.

King turned out twelve horses over the weekend, and not one managed to grab a winning position. With Paul Nicholls and David Pipe amongst others apparently into full swing with their various strings of horses, King is concerned there may be a reason why his yard has failed to record his usual number of winners, and a source indicates he is undertaking a series of internal tests to discover if there is a medical reason for the apparent malaise.

Yorkshire based team secure top Yorkshire prizes.

Malton-based trainer Richard Fahey and his stable jockey, Paul Hanagan retain their titles as leading trainer and jockey on the Yorkshire racecourses circuit during the recently completed Turf Flat season, with 70 and 42 winners respectively. Both men will receive attractive trophies to commemorate their success – To be presented by the competition sponsers, Sky Bet, one of the UK’s leading sports betting and gaming companies, who also happen to be based in Yorkshire.

With the British Flat season coming to an end last Saturday at Doncaster, the battle to be top trainer on the Yorkshire racecourses circuit this year was already in the bag for Richard Fahey, but to emphasise his dominance he achieved  a record-breaking 70 winners on the White Rose tracks, 20 more than his nearest rival, Middleham-based Mark Johnston (himself an eight-times winner of this award, which began in 1995). It was the second consecutive season Fahey has claimed the prize – his tally last year was 42.

It was a little closer in the race to be the leading jockey on the Yorkshire courses this season. For the third successive year, Paul Hanagan lands the riders’ category; his tally of 42 winners was seven more than both Neil Callan and Silvestre de Souza. Hanagan’s winning total last year was 36.

Carberry to face hearing on Wednesday.

Having failed a pre-racing breathilyser last week, jockey Paul Carberry will be subject to a Disciplinary hearing of the Irish Turf Club this coming Wednesday 11 November.
