Former Gold Cup winner to miss Friday's race.Trainer Mouse Morris has taken the reluctant decision to withdraw 2006 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner War of Attrition from the line up for this Friday's running of the Cheltenham blue ribbon steeplechase. It is understood the ten year old will now be aimed at the Aintree Grand National. Speaking this morning, Morris commented, "He jarred himself as he got out of his box on Sunday, and although he might be fine by Friday, I would rather be sure he is one hundred per cent fit, and the Grand National is the next obvious target". Sizing Europe to miss tomorrow's Champion Hurdle.Sizing Europe was very disappointing in a work out at Cheltenham this morning, and Henry de Bromhead immediately consulted with veterinary officials. After a thorough examination, the trainer was informed last year's beaten Champion Hurdle favourite had contracted a virus while in transit to Cheltenham, and connections were left with no option but to withdraw Sizing Europe from tomorrow's Grade One Champion Hurdle. Walsh boosts his Cheltenham title hopes. It would seem Ruby Walsh is particularly keen to win the top jockey title at this week's Cheltenham Festival. Apart from the superby book of rides he has for Paul Nicholls, he has now picked up two rides for the handicap maestro Tony Martin, including Northern Alliance in the Jewson Novice Chase, and the well fancied Green Mile in the Pertemps Handicap Hurdle Final on Thursday afternoon. Henderson considering County option for Dave's Dream.Nicky Henderson wants to observe Dave's Dream for a day or two before he makes a final decision as to whether his Imperial Cup winner will be fresh enough to do himself justice in Friday's running of the County Hurdle. Although an impressive winner of Saturday's Listed contest, Dave's Dream has been lightly raced following a muscle wasting disease which nearly ended his career, and despite the seventy five thousand pound bonus which is on offer if Dave's Dream can land the County Hurdle on top of his Imperial Cup victory, Nicky Henderson will certainly advise connections to do what is in the best interests of the horse - and that is the way it should be! Nicholls loses one of his Fred Winter entries.Paul Nicholls has had to withdraw Nictory Vote from this year's Fred Winter Hurdle. The novice has cracked a bone in a knee, and will now be sidelined possibly for the remainder of the current national hunt season. Cappa Blue survives ballot.Much to the relief of many punters, the Foxhunters Chase anti post favourite Cappa Blue has survived the ballot process to dicide the final line-up for this year's race. Cheltenham gamble set to match last year. The news coming from the bookmaking firms this morning suggests two things. The turn over on total gambling for the week is likely to be unaffected by the current economic recession, and the eventual figure wagered is likely to match the 2008 total of half a billion pounds. The other thing of note is the weakness of the favourites in the Supreme Novices and Champion Hurdle's. Both Cousin Vinny and Binocular have drifted in price in early trading this morning, and although they will still start as favourites in their respective races, their eventual starting prices are more likely to represent value for punters. Late rush for Cheltenham tickets.Officials at the racecourse have reported a last minute rush for the remaining tickets for this year's Cheltenham Festival, but they have had to admit the economic recession has hit their corporate bookings for the week. Taking the above information in tandem with the bookmaker forecasts of a similar betting spend on this year's Festival, it would suggest the interest is as high as ever, but many people will, for economic reasons, watch it on television rather than attend the actual meeting. This is a worrying trend, and one which must be reversed when the economy eventually picks up sufficiently for people to once more have disposable income.
