Leicester cancel Tuesday card.

Following an inspection of their course at 3.30 pm today, officials at Leicester gave in to the snow and ice covering their racing surfaces, and cancelled the meeting scheduled to take place on Tuesday 12 January.

Elna Bright keeps up super Lingfield record.

Two pounds better off than winning over 7 furlongs at Lingfield Park in November, Elna Bright put a disappointing last run at Kempton well behind him as he came with a strong late rattle to deny Atlantic Story in today's 2.10 pm 7 furlong Betdaq for betting exchange Super Seven Handicap at a wintry Lingfield.

Although not having much room in the final furlong, Liam Keniry managed to squeeze through on the rail, denying Jamie Spencer on Atlantic Story by a head, with The Scorching Wind a further short head behind in third place.

Viceroy claims the spoils.

There were only four who went to post for the 1 mile Conditions race at Lingfield this afternoon, but it still turned into an interesting race, with the usual front running Beauchamp Viceroy allowing Plum Pudding to set the pace, but at the furlong pole, Eddie Aherne had brought Beauchamp Viceroy alongside, and his mount extended to score from the frustrating Aeroplane, with Plum Pudding failing to see out the one mile trip on the all weather surface.

Tiddlywinks keeps up his progress.

Top weighted Tiddlywinks scored his fourth win in six races on the all weather at Kempton this afternoon, and the easy way in which he disposed of his rivals suggests he is a sprinter on the upgrade, and should be followed while he continues his present form.

Kempton jumps card already in jeopardy.

With a lot of snow and ice covering the national hunt courses at Kempton Park, next Saturday's scheduled 'jumps' fixture is already subject to a precautionary inspection of the track on Monday 11 January.

Kempton and Lingfield given green light.

At this morning's 6.30 am inspection, racing at Kempton Park was given a green light, but an inch of fresh snow at Lingfield Park meant a further inspection was held at 8.30 am, and although conditions had improved, Clerk of the Course Neil Mckenzie Ross announced yet another inspection at 10.00 am.

However, as the situation improved faster than anyone had expected, the latter inspection was brought forward, with racing being given a green light prior to the projected 10.00 am inspection.

Scoop Six wager goes ahead on all weather races.

Apart from Channel 4, who are showing 8 races from this afternoon's two all weather race meetings, bookmakers Totesport also breathed a sigh of relief when they learnt both fixtures had survived the overnight snow fall, for it meant this afternoon's Scoop Six wager could go ahead as planned.

With no winners of last week's Scoop Six bet, Totesport confirm their is a roll over Win Fund of £64,314 and a roll over Bonus Fund of £60,578. To get in line for a potential pay out of around a quarter of a million pounds, you must first find the winners of the following six races at this afternoon's two all weather fixtures:

Leg 1 - 2.10 pm Lingfield Park.

Leg 2 - 2.25 pm Kempton Park.

Leg 3 - 2.55 pm Kempton Park.

Leg 4 - 3.10 pm Lingfield Park.

Leg 5 - 3.25 pm Kempton Park.

Leg 6 - 3.55 pm Kempton Park.

Solwit on track for Irish Champion Hurdle bid.

Trainer Charles Byrnes has confirmed recent December Hurdle winner Solwit has come out of his exertions at Leopardstown's Christmas Festival in great shape, and a tilt at the Toshiba sponsered Irish Champion Hurdle back at Leopardstown on 24 January is the most likely option.

Having won two Grade 1 hurdles already this season, Solwit's only defeat came when he finished third behind Go Native in the falsely run Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle, but his trainer believes he will get a true pace in the Irish Champion Hurdle, and then it will be on to Cheltenham for the Champion Hurdle, where Byrnes believes the usual 'break-neck' pace of the two mile blue ribbon hurdle event will play to the stamina strengths of Solwit.

In his interview, Byrnes also suggested the progressive Weapons Amnesty has come on again for his short head defeat to Pandorama in the Grade 1 Knight Frank Novice Chase at Leopardstown's Christmas Festival, and prior to a run in the RSA Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, he is hopeful his charge can gain a first Grade 1 success in next month's Dr P J Moriarty Novice Chase at Leopardstown.

Iris to get gentle re-introduction .

2008 Scottish Grand National winner Iris de Balme was due to return from a long injury lay-off in the Welsh Grand National at Chepstow over Christmas, but a further small set back prevented this option, and now trainer Sean Curran has decided to give his Aintree Grand National hope a more gentle re-introduction to national hunt racing by having a run out in a three mile maiden hurdle at Newbury on 29 January. Discussing his plans, Curran said,

"Iris de Balme has given me a lot of sleepless nights. He is undoubtedly a talented individual with the potential to win a Grand National, but he is also injury prone, and if we are to get him to Aintree in top form, it may be necessary to give him a gentle preparation, with the race at Newbury being a suitable first step."

David Nicholson Mares Hurdle could be a star attraction.

With Willie mullins confirming last year's clear cut David Nicholson Mares Hurdle winner Quevega is now back in full training for this year's renewal of the Grade 2 race, the contest could become one of the Highlights of this year's Cheltenham Festival, particularly if Colm Murphy's currently unbeaten Voler la Vedette, and Donald Mccain's White Oak decide to strut their stuff in the same race.

While Mullins has confirmed Quevega will go for the David Nicholson, Murphy and Mccain are said to be considering other targets, including the Champion Hurdle, and we will only know if we have a titanic Mares Hurdle race nearer the time.

Mike de Kock bullish about Dubai string.

South African trainer Mike de Kock has enjoyed much success in Dubai during the last few years, and the trainer, now with facilities in Newmarket, has today indicated he is very bullish about the chances of his string of horses prepared for the Carnival of Racing and World Cup meetings to be held at the new Meydan racecourse in Dubai. The new course has turf and all weather circuits, and having looked at the new racing surfaces, de Kock believes his horses will achieve optimum performances, and he is very hopeful of picking up some major prizes, with Eagle Mountain being his World Cup hope.
