Front running Ellerslie George grabs the Badger Ales Trophy.

Setting a cracking pace throughout, Ellerslie George ran the legs off his rivals in today's Badger Ales Trophy Handicap at Wincanton. Top weight Carruthers tried to stay in touch, but his large burden proved too much by the third last, and Ruby Walsh on The Tother One was left to go in pursuit, but try as he might, he could not gather in the gallant Ellerslie George who stayed on dourly at odds of 14/1. Favourite The Package ran on for third position, with Bowleaze just running Carruthers out of fourth spot.

Charm School provides Fortune with a concilation prize.

Jimmy Fortune may have missed out to Frankie Dettori in relation to John Gosden's runners at the Breeders Cup in Santa Anita, but he rode a fine waiting race to take today's November Handicap at Doncaster on the Gosden trained Charm School.

Tilt's supporters new their fate at the start when the old campaigner failed to start, and the well fancied Kings Destiny pulled far too strongly for the first mile, and had nothing left at the business end of the contest. Ella made a bold bid for home at the three furlong pole, but Hill view Boy and then Charm School had her measure, while second top weight Friston Forest ran a good race to eventually finish fourth.

Pady gives way to hard Truth.

Despite cruising up to the front running Herecomesthetruth at the second last of today's ladbrokes.com Chase at Down Royal, Barry Gerrity could not conjer extra effort out of Arkle Trophy holder Forpadydeplasterer in the closing stages, and on today's soft ground it was Paul Nicholls's seven-year-old Herecomesthetruth who stayed on the stronger to score in today's contest.

Siegemaster had been going well before making a bad mistake at the fifth last, but he recovered sufficiently to run on for third place.

The Listener back to form as Notra Pere falls.

Showing the kind of form which won him three Grade 1 races in the 2007 - 2008 national hunt season, the Nick Mitchell trained The Listener ran his rivals ragged in this afternoon's jnwine.com Champion Chase at Down Royal. Setting a cracking pace in very soft ground, only odds on favourite Notra Pere could lay up with The Listener for around two miles of this afternoon's three mile Grade 2 contest, but at the fifth last Notra Pere made an uncharacteristic mistake, and his resultant fall left Andrew Mcnamara in command as The Listener piled on the pressure, eventually coming well clear to score from the Paul Nicholls trained My Will, with 2006 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner War of Attrition staying on to deny Casey Jones for third place.

Celestial Halo totally dominent in Elite Hurdle.

Prior to today's Grade 2 Elite Hurdle at Wincanton, trainer Paul Nicholls stated Celestial Halo would come on by ten pounds for today's race, and if that is the case, he must now be a real chance for the Cheltenham Champion Hurdle.

Given a strong lead by Marodima, Celestial Halo took it up three flights from home, and once in front, he never looked like being headed, jumping brilliantly over the third and second last before measuring the last flight, and then running well clear of the lightly weighted Mamlook on the run in.

Queen of Pentacles shows some late magic.

Richard Hughes was in excellent early form at Doncaster, and by the time of the Listed Gillies Fillies contest he had already landed a double, and with a late outside run on Jeremy Noseda's 14/1 shot Queen of Pentacles he completed his treble in fine style. Mooakada and Copper Beech, who looked like the likely first and second at the furlong pole, eventually had to settle for the minor honours in today's extended ten furlong contest.

Crackaway Jack makes pleasing debut over fences.

Jumping impeccably, Emma Lavelle's former smart hurdler Crackaway Jack made a winning start to his jumping career in a Beginners Chase at Sandown this afternoon. Asked to take it up three out, he soon left his two rivals toiling in his wake, and without being asked to do anything by partner Noel Fehily, he ran on strongly for a seventeen length win in his first steeplechase.

Presvis on track for Lingfield preparation race.

Luca Cumani's Presvis has been out of action since April, but he pleased his trainer in an all weather gallop this morning, and is now on course to return to action in the Listed Churchill Stakes at Lingfield Park on 21 November.

Providing all goes well at Lingfield, Presvis will then head to the far east for an intended run in the Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Cup on 13 December.

Scoop Six wager heading towards half a million.

It is estimated today's combined Win and Bonus Funds in the Scoop Six wager will top £425,000. To win the Win Fund you must first find the winners of the first six races:

Leg 1 - 2.05 pm Doncaster.

Leg 2 - 2.15 pm Wincanton.

Leg 3 - 2.40 pm Doncaster.

Leg 4 - 3.15 pm Doncaster.

Leg 5 - 3.25 pm Wincanton.

Leg 6 - 3.45 pm Doncaster.

Mister Top Notch continues his come-back.

Having come in a suprisingly good fifth on the flat at Galway on his seasonal reappearance, former Grade 1 winning novice chaser Mister Top Notch is to run in the Lismullen Hurdle at Navan on Sunday as he tries to rekindle his national hunt career.

Trainer Davy Fitzgerald is aware his charge will not particularly like th predicted heavy ground at Navaan, but as the trainer indicated, it is part of a plan,

". Even if the ground is unsuitable at Navan, the run will do him good, and then we might take a serious look at the Brush Hurdle race at Haydock on 21 November."

Midday provides Henry Cecil with first ever Breeders Cup win.

Given a text book ride by Tom Queally, Nassau Stakes winner Midday made up for years of disappointment when she gave Henry Cecil his first ever Breeders Cup triumph in last night's Emirates Airlines Fillies and Mares Turf at Santa Anita. At the front turning into the stretch, Queally obviously had plenty in hand as he eased the filly to the line, holding on by a length from the fast finishing Pure Clan, with last year's winner Forever Together back in third.

After the action, Henry Cecil paid tribute to owner Prince Khalid Abdullah,

"I am delighted for the Prince. He stood by me during the bad times, and I know he loves to have Breeders Cup winners, and I am glad I have at last been able to give him success. Having now had my first winner after so many years of trying, I am hopeful it will not be long before I double my tally."

Man of Iron gives Europe perfect start.

With around two furlongs to go in last night's Breeders Cup Marathon, the American trained Cloudy's Knight seemed to be in complete control. Godolphin's well fancied Mastery could not pick up the leader, and the race result seemed a forgone conclusion - Enter Johnnie Murtagh on Aidan O'Brien's forgotten horse Man of Iron. Using the rail, Murtagh brought his mount with a withering run, and in a close finish, he managed to get Man of Iron in front where it mattered, giving Europe and Aidan O'Brien success in the first race of the 2009 Breeders Cup.

Tapitsfly buzzes in as Lillie flops.

Aidan O'Brien had said before last night's races Lillie Langtry was his best hope of a Breeders Cup winner, but in last night's Fillies and Mares Juvenile Turf the Ballydoyle juvenile failed to pick up as the Dale Romans trained Tapitsfly put in a very impressive display in only her second outing on grass. After the race, Romans said,

"Tapitsfly's success does not make up for the disappointment I felt when Curlin failed to win the Breeders Cup Classic, but it has certainly perked me up, and she is a very nice filly with a promising future."
