Impressive spin for Fame and Glory.
Irish Derby victor Fame and Glory had a spin on the course at Leopardstown yesterday, and from the reports emanating from interested on-lookers, he was very impressive. After the work-out, partner Johnnie Murtagh enthused about Fame and Glory's condition, and he confirmed connections are now looking forward to racing him in the Irish Champion Stakes in September.
Fortune forgoes tonight's rides at Newmarket.
Although completing his rides at Sandown last evening, jockey Jimmy Fortune later felt the after effects of a knock he received on his heel when leaving the starting stalls on his mount Dancer's Legacy. As a precautionary move, Fortune has decided to rest today, and this means he will miss his four planned rides at this evening's meeting at Newmarket, but he hopes to be fit to ride at Haydock Park on Saturday.
Leicester to inspect as courses hit by rain.
Heavy rain across several courses in the Midlands and South East has caused changes in going, and even a possible cancellation.
After a torrential dow-pour on Friday morning, Leicester is currently waterlogged, and an inspection has been called for 7.30 am on Sunday to ascertain as to whether the afternoon fixture planned for that day can go ahead.
Ahead of tomorrow's Shergar Cup meeting, Ascot report their going has changed from good to firm, with the straight course now being good to soft good in places, while the round course is now good to soft soft in places.
May Hill target for Newmarket winner Seta.
Luca Cumani's very impressive Newmarket winner Seta is to by-pass the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood at the end of August. Instead, the easy eight length winner of her first racecourse appearance will go straight to the one mile trip of Doncaster's May Hill Stakes at the St Leger meeting in September.
Speaking on behalf of her father Luca, Francesca Cumani said,
If she is going to be a serious contender for the major fillies prizes next year, she must prove she has the stamina and speed that is required at the highest level, and the May Hill is an ideal test at this stage of her development."
Moore considers options for Lady Darshaan.
Following her recent third place in the Cherry Hinton Stakes, trainer Stan Moore is considering which autumn option to take with his two year old filly Lady Darshaan. The handler believes his charge is up to the standard required to figure in the Fillies Mile at Ascot, the Cheveley Park Stud Stakes or the Rockfel Stakes at Newmarket, but she also has an entry in the Redcar Two Year Old Trophy, and Moore has won that race for the last two years with Dubai Dynamo in 2007, and Lady Darshaan's half brother Total Gallery in 2008. Speaking about his dilemma, Moore commented,
"She could be a Guineas filly next year, and I know she will get a mile, so we have plenty of options. I would like to win the race at Redcar again, but that might not be the right thing for the filly, so we will have to see."
Lillie Langtry takes over Guineas favouritism.
A smart length and three quarters success over stable mate Devoted To You in Thursday evening's Group 2 Debutante Stakes at Leopardstown has seen the Ballydoyle trained Lillie Langtry take over as the anti post favourite for the 2010 Newmarket 1,000 Guineas.
Showing a good turn of foot when asked by partner Johnnie Murtagh, the filly showed she has definitely progressed since her run at Royal Ascot, and Aidan O'Brien is now intending to give her a run in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes at the Curragh.
For anti post punters, the only reservation about the filly would be - she is a daughter of Danehill Dancer, and generally his progeny prefer cut, and usually, the Newmarket Guineas is run on good ground.
Brittain thinks conditions will suit Jira.
Veteran trainer Clive Brittain is not daunted by the reputation of opponent Long Lashes in tomorrow's Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket, for he believes his Princess Margaret Stakes fourth Jira has come on since her last run, and he also believes the course and ground will suit Jira in the seven furlong Group 3 contest.
