Mad About You gets her season back on track.

The Dermot Weld trained Mad About You put her recent suprise defeat in the Park Express Stakes firmly behind her with a masterful victory in this afternoon's Group 3 Gladness Stakes at the Curragh.

Always travelling comfortably for jockey Pat Smullen, when asked to quicken at around the one and a half furlong point, she readily extended , and ran out a two and a half length winner.

O'Connor showing definite signs of improvement.

Matt O'Connor, who suffered a serious head injury ten days ago at Thurles, is showing definite signs of improvement at Cork University Hospital. In the latest report, Colm Murphy's stable jockey has been taken off the ventilator, and is now breathing on his own.

This is a major step forward, and it is to be hoped this is the initial step on the road to full recovery.

Grand National news from the bookmakers.

The simple news is the bookmakers made an absolute kinning on Mon Mome's totally unexpected victory in yesterday's big race. With turn over matching 2008, it is believed the firms shared a three hundred million pound bonanza which will make their balance sheets look great at the end of the year.

However, the William Hill branch in Ross-on -Wye, which is just a stone's throw from the Venetia Williams stables, made a big loss, as loads of local punters placed solidarity bets on the yard's two runners, Mon Mome and Stan. The shop manager advised about a quarter of the bets they took were on Mon Mome, and although the stakes were not large, they lost ten of thousands of pounds on the day.

One Ladbroke punter in Manchester had a £2.50 double accumulator on Mon Mome combined with either victory for Argentina or Brazil at the next World Cup. If that comes to pass, he will win £30,300.

But, as so few Ladbroke customers won on Mon Mome, the firm have decided to produce a specially commissioned Mon Mome Members Club tie, and this will be sent out to all registered Ladbroke clients who placed bets on yesterday's Grand National winner.
