Hayley Turner kept in for observation.

Successful lady jockey Hayley Turner has been kept in Addenbrookes Hospital Cambridge for overnight observation following her traumatic training stalls accident aboard Old Saran. Although not confirmed by official sources, it is suggested Hayley may be allowed to go home later today.

Target selected for Imperial Commander.

After consultation with connections, Nigel Twiston Davies last nightconfirmed the decision has been made to run Imperial Commander in the Ryanair Chase rather than the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Cheltenham delay watering decision.

Having yesterday indicated they were about to start watering the Prestbury Park courses, Cheltenham officials actually decided to hold fire, and after assessing the conditions following the current wet spell, they will then decide as to whether they need to undertake artificial watering of the racing surfaces.

Hales confident about Neptune bid.

John Hales, the owner of Neptune Collonges, is very bullish about his horse's chances in this year's Cheltenham Gold Cup. He thinks his recent defeat of Welsh Grand National winner Notra Pere will prove to be a sound effort, and he also thinks Neptune Collonges has improved considerably since that run at Leopardstown.

McCoy seeks fifth victory.

When Tony McCoy rides Stradbrook for his retained owner J P Macmanus in this Saturday's Imperial Cup, he will be attempting to land his fifth victory in this traditional pre Cheltenham race. In the history of the Sandown contest, A P has already ridden three winners for Martin Pipe and one winner for David Pipe, but this time he will be trying to win the race for Jonjo O'Neill.

McCoy was aboard Stradbrook when he won his last start at Wincanton, but based on that performance, it would seem the O'Neill team will be hoping for some underfoot cut in this Saturday's race.

Ground the key to Harper Valley.

When last seen on a race track, Harper Valley finished fifth behind Punjabi in the rescheduled Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Wetherby. Since then, he has switched from Robbie Elliot's stable in Ireland to Lucy Wadham's yard in Newmarket, but because of soft underfoot conditions, he has not raced since December.

Lucy Wadham is said to be very keen to run him in this Saturday's Imperial Cup, but she is at the mercy of the underfoot conditions, for the horse can only run effectively on good ground. Speaking yesterday, the trainer commented,

"We are keeping our eye on the ground at Sandown, and if it is good on Saturday, we will give him his first run in three months".

Moore to decide on runners on Friday.

Brighton based trainer Gary Moore will decide which of his horses will take their chance in Saturday's Imperial Cup once he has a clearer picture of ground conditions on Friday morning.

For interested punters, the trainer confirms Numide would prefer softer undrfoot conditions, while I Have Dreamed would prefer good ground, and Harry Trigger can race on anything other than very soft underfoot conditions.

Big field will necessitate adjudication.

With forty three horses yesterday registering for the running of this year's Christie's Foxhunters Chase at the Cheltenham Festival, it seems inevitable the BHA Chief Handicapper Phil Smith will have to get involved in reducing the size of the final field to co-incide with the safety standards operating at Prestbury Park.

Based on the rumpus created by the weights allocated for this year's Grand National, it would seem likely, no matter what reasons are given for exclusions from this year's Foxhunters contest, Smith is once more going to find himself surrounded in the usual controversy suffered by handicappers.

No supplement for Loch Derg.

With connections indicating they are not prepared to supplement Loch Derg for the Champion Hurdle, it seems most likely he will carry top weight in this year's running of the Coral Cup.

Zacinto out of 2,000 Guineas.

Sir Michael Stoute has reported a training set back has ruled Zacinto out of a run in this year's Newmarket 2,000 Guineas, and the colt will probably not make his three year old debut until June or July.

Phillips becomes another victim of the recession.

ABB Chief Executive Russ Phillips, who was headhunted by the Association of British Bookmakers from the Office of Fair Trading, has had his contract of employment terminated. In a statement from the Chairman's office, the Association have explained, with the present economic recession badly effecting its members, the Association has had to cut its own costs, and unfortunately the position of Chief Executive was considered to be part of the necessary cut-backs.

Amateur gets dream ride.

Dunguib, who was last seen winning a Navan bumper by thirteen lengths back in December, is now second favourite for next week's Cheltenham Champion Bumper, and in an unusual move, trainer Philip Fenton is to keep faith with amateur Brian O'Connell, rather than employ the services of a professional jockey for the ride in the Champion Bumper.

Although it will be O'Connell's first ride in Britain, he has been the jockey aboard Dunguib in his four successful outings so far, and the trainer believes it could be detrimental to change the 'pilot' for his biggest test to date.
