Date set for Peterborough Chase.

After being moved around over the last couple of years, Huntingdon's big race of the year, the Grade 2 Peterborough Chase, is to be fixed as a mid week event , and this year the race will take place on Thursday 10 December.

Evasive to have first start for Godolphin.

Acquired from the stable of Sir Michael Stoute by the Godolphin organisation after finishing fourth behind Mastercraftsman in the St James's Palace Stakes, Evasive is reported to have put in a good piece of work this morning at Newmarket, and it is understood he will now have his first run for his new connections in the Group 2 CGA Hungerford Stakes at Newbury on 15 August.

The return to the Berkshire course may be a smart move, as Evasive has shown he has a liking for the track at Newbury, landing the Horris Hill Stakes over the same course and distance as the Hungerford in his juvenile year.

Trainers keen on Nunthorpe chances.

Both Jeremy Noseda and Brian Meehan are keen to enter their horses in this year's Group 1 Nunthorpe Stakes at York's Ebor Meeting.

Meehan admits he would have preferred to have given Radio Head an outing in the Phoenix Stakes, but poor ground prevented that option, and the trainer is now hoping he gets good ground at the Knavesmire for his Norfolk Stakes winner.

However, he believes with the right conditions, and the weight concessions available to a juvenile, his two year old has an excellent opportunity to copy the success of Kingsgate Native, who won the Group 1 race as a two year old in 2007.

Noseda, who trains July Cup winner Fleeting Spirit, believes his four year old filly has never been better, and he is confident she can add the five furlong Nunthorpe to her success over six furlongs in the July Cup. In a step to ensurecontinuity for the filly, Noseda has decided to keep Newmarket partner Tom Queally as Fleeting Spirits jockey for the Nunthorpe, but like Meehan, he hopes the ground for the Nunthorpe does not become too testing.

Midday unlikely for Yorkshire Oaks.

Connections of Nassau Stakes winner Midday have today ruled out another clash with Epsom and Curragh Oaks winner Sariska in this month's Yorkshire Oakds at the Knavesmire. Instead, they are looking at potential participation in the Prix de L'Opera at Longchamp and/or the Breeders Cup Fillies and Mares Turf Classic.

Ballyholland connections aiming high.

Having won last week's Galway Plate by eight lengths, the Colin McBratney trained Ballyholland is now rated at 145, and despite being a second year novice steeplechaser, connections have no option but to aim high for his winter campaign. McBratney said today,

"Initially he will now go to a Conditions race at Navan in a fortnight, and we will certainly give him an entry in the 2010 Grand National, but with his current rating, we will have to consider either the Paddy Power Gold Cup at Cheltenham or the jmwines.com Chase at Down Royal in the autumn."

Hayley to get Captain's armband.

It has been confirmed today, Hayley Turner is to 'Captain' the British team in this weekend's Shergar Cup at Ascot. Hayley has been a very determined participant in her previous outings in this competition, and it is obviously thought she will keep team mates Alan Munro and Darryl Holland up to their mettle in Saturday's four team compeetition.

Godolphin have four entrants for Australian races.

The overseas entrants for Australia's top Spring races; the Caulfield Cup, Cox's Plate and Melbourne Cup - were announced today, and the down-turn in world racing was obvious, with entry numbers down from 66 in 2008 to 43 this year.

Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin organisation are responsible for four of the entries, including; Sheema Classic winner Eastern Anthem, recent Goodwood Cup victor Schiaparelli, York Stakes winner Kirklees, and the well regarded Age of Reason.

Aidan O'Brien shows his regard for his current Ebor favourite Changingoftheguard, for the three year old has an entry in the Melbourne Cup. While Dermot Weld believes last year's Melbourne Cup fifth Profound Beauty has shown with her two victories this year, she will be a force to be reckoned with on her return 'down-under'.

Luca Cumani is very successful with his overseas runners, so entering his Brigadier Gerard winner Cima de Triomphe in the Melboune Cup is not a move to be ignored.

McCabe to have first runners this weekend.

Having delayed the start of his racing operations from his new Averham yard to allow his horses to become thoroughly acclimatized with their new surroundings, trainer Alan McCabe has indicated he will probably have his first entries from his new facilities this coming weekend.

Godolphin key to Dettori Shergar Cup participation.

With Godolphin currently undecided as to whether they want Frankie Dettori to ride any of their potential runners at this weekend's meetings at Haydock or Newmarket, the Italian cannot confirm as to whether he will be available to Captain the European team in Saturday's Shergar Cup at Ascot.

Ascot have confirmed, if Dettori is unavailable, they have prepared a contingency plan for that eventuality.

However, leading independant Irish Bookmakers Paddy Power threw in a 'wobbly' this afternoon, for they have offered Frankie 10,000 euros for a charity of his choice if he defects to the Irish team for Saturday's competition.

Paddy Power point out, over the years of the Shergar Cup, the popular Italian has ridden for the Rest of the World, European, and last year the British team, but he has not shown his skills as a representative of Ireland, and Paddy Power hope to lure him to their cause with a large charity donation.

Mullins hopeful of two Ebor entrants.

Ireland's leading national hunt trainer Willie Mullins is eyeing a double pronged attack on the £210,000 Ebor Handicap at York later this month.

His Deutschland has won on the flat, over hurdles, and was also one of last season's leading novice chasers, and with an allocation of 9 stone, he is alredy sure of a run in the Ebor. Speaking about his chances Mullins commented,

"He did well to finish second in last week's Galway Hurdle, but his previous win at Dundalk shows he has plenty of speed and stamina on the flat, and off 9 stone, I give him a good chance of at least making the frame in the Ebor."

The other potential Mullins representative is Royal Ascot runner-up Sesenta, but with a current allocation of 8 stone 8 pounds, she is not yet certain of making the cut. Analysing the filly's chances, Mullins said,

"Sesenta is only fifteen hands, but she is a bundle of energy, and if she gets in on her current weight, she has definite chances if she can reproduce her Ascot run over the Ebor's shorter trip."

Dascombe to have dream team backers.

In an emerging story, not only is up and coming trainer Tom Dascombe going to have the backing of England international footballer Michael Owen at the new 170 acre Manor House stables at Malpas in Cheshire, it now appears Betfair founder Andrew Black is also to join in full partnership with Owen at the purpose built yard.

It is understood Black and Owen intend to pool their ownership resources, with the sole intent of providing Dascombe with the backing he needs to become a trainer of Group 1 winners within the next three years.

Reading between the lines, it seems Owen and Black are trying to establish a Coolmore type operation on the British side of the Irish Sea.

De Bromhead planning early campaign for Sizing Europe.

Henry de Bromhead has confirmed former smart hurdler Sizing Europe is already back in training for a potential run over fences as early as October. The six year old put in a good jumping display to land his first attempt at Chasing back in May, and de Bromhead believes he could turn into a talented individual over the larger obstacles.

However, connections are not going to get carried away with the same kind of hype which saw Sizing Europe as anti post favourite for the Champion Hurdle at one time. In fact, the trainer recently made a point of saying,

"We are going to take it a step at a time over fences. We believe he could be a talented chaser, but it is our intention to move him up the ranks as and when he shows he is ready to progress."

Quality Road returns with course record.

Edward Evans's Quality Road was last seen on a U S racecourse four months ago, but in yesterday's Grade 2 Amsterdam Stakes, he broke the course record at Saratoga, and bearing in mind the race was only supposed to be a preparation race for the Grade 1 Shadwell Travers Stakes, he looks like a horse who will be going places in the latter part of the American flat season.
