Gosden gets back to winning ways in Pretty Polly.

Rainbow view may not have performed up to her best in the 1,000 Guineas, but it did not take long for trainer John Gosden to get back on the winning track, as his Take The Hint put in an eye catching display to win today's Pretty Polly Stakes at Newmarket.

Oxx and Kinane team up again for victory at Gowran Park.

Just one day after riding Sea The Stars to victory in the 2,000 Guineas at Newmarket, Michael Kinane was once more aboard a John Oxx winner, as he rode Alaivan to a decisive success in the Gowran Park Classic Trial this afternoon. Only fifth in his maiden at Leopardstown, the youngster has obviously progressed, and in the Gowran home straight, he stormed five lengths clear of his nearest rival Fergus McIver.afternoon.

Evens and Odds lands competitive sprint.

For much of today's 3.50 pm six furlong sprint at Newmarket, the front running Thebes looked like he would stay on to capture the ultra competitive handicap, but as he hit the rising ground after the Newmarket dip, Adrian Nicholls aboard his father's horse Evens and Odds ranged alongside, and the great form of the Dandy Nicholls trained horses continued, as Evens and Odds scooted clear in the final furlong.

The gallant Thebes held on to second position from favourite Exclamation and the late finishing Orpsey Boy.

Ghanaati shines as Rainbow fails to materialize.

The Barry Hills trained Ghanaati stayed up with the pace throughout the Stan James 1,000 Guineas, and then under a strong ride from Richard Hills, she flew up the Newmarket hill to hold off a determined challenge from Cuis Ghaire, with Brian Meehan's Super Sleuth putting in a late runfor an unexpected third place.

The great disappointment of the race was odds on favourite Rainbow view, who never looked likely to land the odds, and was struggling from as far out as the three furlong pole. Interviewed on Channel 4 after the race, trainer John Gosden explained his filly hated today's firm going, and he expects her to show much better form when she gets her preferred good to soft going in future races.

The first two home had not had a run this season, and this was reflected in their prices, with Ghanaati landing today's Group 1 at odds of twenty to one.

Workmanlike win for Heaven Sent.

Heavily supported into four to eleven favourite in the four runner Group 3 Dalia Stakes, Sir Michael Stoute's Heaven Sent was trying to record her second successive annual victory in today's race at Newmarket.

Sitting at the back of the small pack of runners for most of the race, Ryan Moore got into the drive position at the two furlong pole, and the favourite eased into a length and a half lead, but she could not extend her winning margin from the gallant outsider of the four runners Casilda, who stayed on well for second place in today's contest.

It has to be said, if Heaven Sent is to land a Group 1 or 2 race this season, she will have to improve on today's workmanlike effort.

Punters and Layers get it wrong.

Hatton Flight may have been seeking a three timer in the first race on today's 1,000 Guineas card at Newmarket, but the Andrew Balding trained four year old drifted alarmingly in the betting prior to the 'off'. The money came for Redesignation, but throughout the early part of the twelve furlong contest, the favourite pulled far too hard, and wasted vital energy.

At the three furlong pole, Hatton Flight took over the lead, and despite a late run from Redesignation, William Bewick kept the race leader up to his task, and he landed his third successive win in clever style.

Based on this performance, Andrew Balding may have to consider moving Hatton Flight up to Listed class for his next run, as the handicapper is likely to give him another substantial hike in the weights.

Outsider sensation in Kentucky Derby.

Fifty to one outsider Mind That Bird flew up the inside rail to score by six lengths from well fancied Pioneer of the Nile in last night's Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.

Given a peach of a ride by experienced jockey Calvin Borel, the winner was one of the longest priced winners in the one hundred and thirty five year history of the 'Race for the Roses'.

However, Betfair confirm one punter had an eighty five pound stake on the in running odds of 179 to 1. We can only suggest that punter has a crystal ball, was born lucky, or a little bird gave him the result in advance!

Curragh for Curtain Call.

Luca Cumani has confirmed Curtain Call will have his first run in ten months when he appears in the EBF Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh tomorrow. Last seen finishing down the field behind the retired Montmartre at Longchamp, Curtain Call put up his best run as a three year old when finishing an unlucky fifth behind Frozen Fire in the Irish Derby.

Trainer Cumani believes his horse has come on during the winter, but he does not expect to see the best of his four year old until later in the current flat season.

Fast ground causes withdrawal and worry.

The fast ground conditions at Newmarket have caused David Watchman to withdraw Again from today's Stan James 1,000 Guineas, while jockey Jimmy Fortune has indicated the conditions are a worry for favourite Rainbow view, as the filly usually prefers sa little cut to be at her best.

It will be interesting to see if the comments cause the favourite to drift in the betting market on today's Classic.

Last outing for Brave Inca?

Having recovered from a twelve month lay off due to injury, the 2006 Champion Hurdler Brave Inca had seemed back to his best when winning a Grade 1 event on heavy ground at Leopardstown, but since that run he has failed to spark, finishing only ninth in the World Series Hurdle at Punchestown, and trainer Colm Murphy is said to be talking to connections about the possibility of retiring the eleven year old.

If this proves to be the case, all at Racingsight would like to wish Brave Inca a long and happy retirement.

Punchestown very happy with crowd figures.

Although last year's five day attendance of 105,669 set a new record for the Punchestown Festival, this year's combined attendances of 95,109 represents the second best combined crowd for the five day national hunt extravaganza, and in view of the economic down turn, officials at Punchestown are naturlly delighted with this year's result.

With crowd figures at the course holding up, and television audiences up for the meeting as a whole, it is likely the later starting times for the week day fixtures employed for the first time this year, may well become a perminent alteration in future years.

Bolger eyeing Epsom for Gan Amhras.

Jim Bolger was delighted with the third place of his Gan Amhras in yesterday's Stan James 2,000 Guineas.

"With the recent poor weather in Ireland, we had not got sufficient work into him to enable him to show his best in yesterday's race, and he will be better at a mile and a half, and with that in mind, I think he can reverse the placings with Sea The Stars at Epsom".
