Tamarind no respecter of Perfect Truth.

Cheshire Oaks winner Perfect Truth appeared to be the Ballydoyle number one in this afternoon's Group 3 Ladbrokes sponsered Give Thanks Stakes at Cork, but it was 20/1 stable companion and daughter of Saddlers Wells - Tamarind who travelled smoothly in the soft ground, taking the spoils from Perfect Truth, with John Oxx's Beauty O'Gwaun having to settle for third place.

Oxx confirms only soft ground will deter Sea The Stars.

Although John Oxx admitted he was hoping for some better weather ahead of the Juddmonte International on 18 August at York, in an interview today, the trainer confirmed if the ground remains good or better, then Sea The Stars would run in the ten furlong Group 1 contest.

However, Oxx did admit, if the going at the Knavesmire became soft, then it was unlikely Sea The Stars would take up his engagement, particularly as his main rival Mastercraftsman has a proven liking for plenty of cut.

Look out for Long Lashes at Newmarket this weekend.

The former Jessica Harrington inmate Long Lashes, who was an impressive winner of the Listed Ballygallon Stud Stakes , is pencilled in to have her first outing for new owners Godolphin in this weekend's Sweet Solera Stakes at Newmarket.

Considered by some judges to be the best potential juvenile filly of the year, Lush Lashes will have to show true form on her first outing for 'the boys in blue' if she is to stamp her authority over last weekend's easy Newmarket winner Seta.

Fanning due to return on Saturday.

When jockey Joe Fanning broke his collar-bone at Ayr three weeks ago, he had already accrued seventy two winners for the current year, and was on course to top his career high of one hundred and eight winners in the twelve month long flat season. So the news his injury has mended ahead of schedule is music to the ears of the northern rider, and he is now hoping to restart his current campaign with a few rides back at Ayr this coming Saturday.

Hannon rules out Nunthorpe supplement for Monsieur Chevalier.

Richard Hannon has today ruled out the possibility of prolific two year old sprinter Monsieur Chevalier being supplemented for the Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes at York's Ebor Meeting. Hannon commented,

"He is entered for the Gimcrack at York, and that is where he will go. I am not a fan of supplementing horses, and £20,000 is a lot to pay for a speculative opportunity to win a Group 1 against older horses."

It had been speculated stable jockey Richard Hughes was keen to utilise the weight advantages available to two year olds in the Nunthorpe, and certainly Lyric Fantasy's victory some years ago is a positive illustration Hannon can train a juvenile to win the five furlong Group 1, but the trainers comments today suggest the idea is not on his agenda for Monsieur Chevalier.

Flynn confirms plans for stable stars.

Pat Flynn has today confirmed his hopes for two of his current stable stars.

Bahrain Storm, who completed a big race flat and hurdles double at the Galway Festival, is to be aimed at both the Irish and British Champion Hurdles in the spring of 2010. While hat-trick seeking filly She's Our Mark is to head to a Listed race at Gowran Park on 12 August, before attempting to make it a four timer in a Group 3 at the Curragh on 30 August.

Super filly Rachel Alexandra wins again.

Rachel Alexandra did not win so much as devastate her male rivals in Sunday's running of the Grade 1 mile and one furlong Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park. On rain soaked ground, she stormed up the home stretch, leaving Preakness winning colt Summer Bird six length behind her when she crossed the winning line.

This was the super filly's eighth straight win since last November, and based on current form, she looks likely to go through the current season without a blemish on her record.

No steeplechases at Roscommon on Tuesday.

An early morning inspection at Roscommon has excluded the possibility of staging any steeplechase racing on tomorrow's card. With the chase course declared as unfit for acing, the initial hurdle is to be broken up into two divisions, thereby producing an alternative seven race card which is due to start at 5.45 pm. The ground on the raceable parts of the track is currently described as soft to heavy, but more rain is likely today.

Godolphin acquire their first Grade 1 success.

Incredible as it may seem, Seventh Street's victory in yesterday's Saratoga Go For Wands Stakes represented the Godolphin organisation's first Grade 1 victory in North America during the current season.

'The boys in blue' are hoping this initial win will form the spring-board for a positive autumn campaign for their North American interests.

BHA issue race timeing reminder to racecourses.

With repeated recent incidents of late start times occurring at several racecourses, the BHA are understood to have issued a reminder to all British racecourses - Starting races late is detrimental to the image of the sport, and when time delays cause races to overlap, it can also lead to the loss of betting revenue, the latter problem obviously having a knock-on effect on the amount being donated to the Levy.

Galway officials confirm drop in figures.

At the conclusion of the seven day Galway Festival, officials have confirmed an average drop in attendances of 18% on 2008 figures, with Tote turn-over being down 20%, and on-course bookmakers reporting a down-turn of 26%.

Galway General Manager John Maloney said,

"The final figures are in-line with our pre-meeting predictions, and this mirrors the general trend in Irish racing. Our Tuesday and Friday meetings were also hit by bad weather, and this did not help the overall result, but to be frank, things could have been far worse, and we are happy to have hit our pre-meeting targets."

Polly's Mark could head back to Ascot.

Having disappointed at Royal Ascot in June, the Clive Cox trained Polly's Mark put in a much better performance when landing Sunday's Listed EBF Chalice Stakes at Newbury. Apart from giving jockey William Bewick his first win in twenty five days, the filly impressed her trainer in yesterday's contest, and Cox is now considering sending her back to Ascot for the Princess Royal Stakes later in the season.

Twelve year old Tatling returns to the winners enclosure.

There is obviously plenty of life left in the old horse yet, for the twelve year old The Tatling ignored a poor start in Sunday's Blackmore Building Contractors Handicap at Newbury, and then weaved his way through his field before getting up to see off favourite Kingswinford by a neck in yesterday's sprint contest.

His veteran trainer Milton Bradley was exstatic when his old campaigner returned to the winners enclosure, and the handler confirmed he would keep racing The Tatling for as long as he showed he was still enjoying it. In fact, Bradley indicated the former winner of four Group races could re-appear as early as Friday at the meeting due to take place at Brighton.

Hannon secures Newbury treble.

Trainer Richard Hannon kept up his incredible winning record for the current season with a treble at Sunday's Newbury Meeting. Quadrille appears to be a useful new recruit to Her Majesty the Queen's string, and his partner Richard Hughes went on to complete a double when riding Desert Auction to victory later on the card. Hannon completed his treble when Ryan Moore accompanied Avongate to victory in the second division of the EBF Premier Maiden.
