Amour Propre not affected by drift in the market.

Despite drifting alarmingly on the betting exchanges and in the ring at Newmarket, Henry Candy's Amour Propre won the Group 2 Palace House Stakes with plenty in hand.

Always travelling close to the pace, Dane O'Neill gave the three year old his head at the furlong pole, and he scooted clear, staying on well all the way to the line.

Race favourite Borderlescott ran his usual good race, but was just pipped for second place by the more forward Ho Ho Ho.

Sea the Stars sees off Delegator.

With Sir Michael Stoute's Evasive setting a good pace at the front of the Stan James 2,000 Guineas, the Group 1 was a true test, and one that was best seen out by the John Oxx trained Sea the Stars.

Dwelling slightly at the start, Jockey Michael Kinane stayed on the stands side, and slowly made his way level with leader Evasive at the two furlong from home pole. From that point, Sea the Stars took over, and despite a late run from favourite Delegator on the opposite side of the track, Sea the Stars had the class to hold on with a little in hand.

The Jim Bolger trained Gan Amhras and Aidan O'Brien's Rip Van Winkle made late headway to secure third and fourth places respectively.

Eva and Francesca spoil party for Born to Boogie.

Similar to her last run at Kempton, Born to Boogie tried to dominate in today's Group 3 Conqueror Stakes at Goodwood, but close home she could not stay on under her top weight, and Eva's Request and Lady Francesca pulled clear to share the first two positions in this fillies race.

This victory was a massive step up for Eva's Request, who was last seen filling a mid position in this year's Lincoln Handicap at Doncaster.

Cannon shoots clear to deny Conquest.

The drama in today's Group 2 Jockey Club Stakes started at the stalls when the Sir Michael Stoute trained Spanish Moon refused to go in. This automatically caused a deduction on all bets of 35 pence in the pound, but it seemed to make the race a 'walk-over' for favourite Casual Conquest.

However, last year's Derby third did not cope with today's fast ground at Newmarket, and John Gosden's Bronze Cannon obtained his first victory at Group 2 level.

Connections of Casual Conquest will now have to concentrate his efforts into races with softer underfoot conditions if he is to get his head in front in Pattern races during the upcoming season.

Jumbo powers to victory at Punchestown.

When Tharawaat had a tired fall at the last hurdle of today's feature Ballymore Properties Novice Hurdle at Punchestown, the Edward O'Grady trained Jumbo Rio stormed clear, and despite a late run from favourite Mourad, Jumbo Rio held on to win by four lengths.

After the race, O'Grady pointed out the victory was some compensation for Jumbo Rio's connections, as they lost the promising Alexander Severus just a few weeks ago.

Confront shows his class.

In today's opener at Newmarket on Guineas day, Ryan Moore had to work hard two furlongs from home to get top weighted Confront in contention, but once he ranged alongside the pace setting Viva Vittori there was only going to be one winner.

Confront was among the three horses picked by the trio going for the Totesport Scoop Six Bonus Fund, and they shared a pool in the range of four hundred thousand pounds.

Comfortable win for Voler la Vedette.

Colm Murphy's mare Voler la Vedette put in a good round of hurdling, including a spectacular leap at the last, when securing today's Grade 3 Mares Hurdle at Punchestown, with the late finishing Shirley Casper securing a solid second place.

Moore likely partner for Fantasia in France.

As it now seems likely Godolphin will clain Frankie Dettori to ride Moonlife in the French 1,000 Guineas next weekend, trainer Luca Cumani is understood to have lined up Ryan Moore as a more than able substitute partner for Fantasia in the Longchamp Group 1 fillies contest.

Gerrity out for around six weeks.

The fall from Colm Murphy's Zaarito at Friday's Punchestown meeting has cost Barry Gerrity a broken wrist, and Nicky Henderson's stable jockey will now miss the next six weeks as his broken bones knit and mend. Luckily, the only major national hunt race in this time frame is the Swinton Hurdle at Haydock Park, so Gerrity will not miss out on too much action.

Silver Birch will continue in cross country competitions.

Folloing his good second to Garde Champetre in this week's Punchestown cross country race, trainer Gordon Elliott has decided thirteen year old Silver Birch will continue to race in this type of cross country contest for at least the next twelve months.

Sublimity could have run on flat.

Trainer Robbie Hennessy says, after missing the Rabobank Champion Hurdle due to adverse ground conditions, Sublimity could well have a run on the flat prior to his summer break.

Elliott believes his horse is in good heart, and was in fine shape for yesterday's contest, so it is a shame to waste all the work undertaken in preparing the former Champion Hurdler for a race he in which he could not compete.

An outing at the Curragh or Leopardstown in a staying event is the mooted plan, but again, it will be subject to suitable underfoot conditions.

Charity Day fun at Hamilton.

Tomorrow marks Hamilton Park's first meeting of the season, and the course, which has just completed over one hundred and twenty thousand pounds worth of improvements for spectators, is staging its initial fixture in support of Cancer Research UK.

Combining giving with fun, the charity day offers plenty of on-course activities for the whole family, and incorporates a tug-of-war between national hunt and flat jockeys, while on the racing side, the £10,000 Daily Record Handicap is the highlight, although the national hunt jockeys flat race might produce a similar amount of entertainment.

In these hard economic times, the course has also made it easier for families to attend, with price reductions applying to tomorrow's fixture.
