No winners of Scoop Six.
Picking winners at today's two all weather fixtures proved difficult - so difficult in fact, the Scoop Six Win and Bonus Funds were not won and now roll over until next Saturday.
Daly aiming Mighty Man at chasing prizes.
Originally it was thought former top class long distance hurdler Mighty Man would return to hurdling after his comprehensive win at Hereford in his first ever novice chase, but it now appears connections believe the ten-year-old could prove to be a major player in this year's novice chasing campaign, and it is thought he could now be stepped up to Graded company for his next outing over fences.
Tiradito eases to Lingfield win.
Due to a series of setbacks, Tiradito had a muddling juvenile season in 2009, but he showed at Lingfield this afternoon his second place behind subsequent Cheveley Park runner up Misheer was no fluke, for under an astute ride from Martin Dwyer, he eased to a three length victory over the running on Abhar in the Bet FA Cup at Betdaq Maiden Stakes.
Based on today's impressive effort, if Tiradito can stay healthy during 2010, he could be a three-year-old to follow.
Angel outshines fancied rivals at Cork.
Taking it up from the fancied 5/4 joint favourite Kauto Relko at the end of the back straight in today's Mccarthy Group Insurance Hurdle at Cork, the Jessica Harrington trained Boston's Angel ran on strongly all the way to the winning line, and in so doing, scored by two lengths from the other running on 5/4 joint favourite Mr Warbucks.
Wonder Strikes again.
The Jim Boyle trained Wonder Strike went into this afternoon's extra meeting at Lingfield Park with a hat trick of victories under his belt, and duly notched up a four timer when landing the Betdaq for Betting Exchange sponsered Handicap on this afternoon's card.
After the race, the trainer indicated he may well give his charge another quick run in order to stretch his winning run to five victories prior to re-assessment by the official handicapper.
Joncol to pursue different tactics.
Having had time to assess Joncol's third in the Lexus Chase, trainer Paul Nolan believes his charge took it up too soon, and paid the penalty as What A Friend and Money Trix passed him in the closing stages of the Grade 1 contest. With this in mind, the trainer has decided he will employ different tactics with his relatively inexperienced chaser when he re-appears in the Hennessy Gold Cup back at Leopardstown on 13 February.
"When Joncol runs in nexxt month's Hennessy, he will almost certainly meet one or both of the horses who finished in front of him in the Lexus, and if we are to reverse the placings, we must find a tactic which will enable him to put in a sustained burst at the end of the race. Certainly better ground would help his cause, but we also need to find the best way to ride him for all his future top class races."
Goldsworthy pays tribute to Holdem.
Having witnessed Holdem suffer a fatal fall during his run at Cheltenham yesterday, trainer Keith Goldsworthy paid tribute to his stable star, and lamented the loss of a horse he felt would have developed into a top class chaser in the coming seasons.
Notra pere given Aintree Grand National entry.
After watching Notra Pere fail to obtain a first three finish in the recent Lexus Chase, trainer Jim Dreaper now believes his 2008 Welsh Grand National winner should concentrate on long distance races, and with that in mind, he confirmed Notra Pere would now be entered and trained specifically for a run in this year's Aintree Grand National.
Henderson now keen to find suitable races.
Nicky Henderson pulled Punchestowns out of yesterday's Dipper Novices Chase at Cheltenham because he felt the ground would not suit the big frame of his stable star, but this morning the trainer admitted he was now at a loss to find suitable two mile four furlong novice chases prior to the Cheltenham Festival,
"With the cold spell likely to continue for some time, we will now find it tough to obtain the right kind of novice chasing opportunities for Punchestowns, and that could mean he will go into the Cheltenham Festival with less chasing experience than is ideal, but if the weather continues to play havoc with the fixture list, I suppose the same problem will apply to the majority of novice chasers."
Sandown lost after second inspection.
Officials at Sandown Park gave today's proposed race meeting every chance of going ahead, but at a second inspection of the course at 10.00 am, it was found sections of the track were completely frozen and conditions were therefore unraceable. Today's meeting was due to stage the Blue Square sponsered Tolworth Hurdle, but unfortunately, this major race becomes the latest to fall foul of the current cold snap.
Cork on as Naas abandoned.
Today's card at Cork has survived an early morning inspection, and a hurdles only meeting will go ahead on ground described as 'heavy'.
However, after a 10.00 am inspection, tomorrow's meeting at Naaas has been abandoned due to unraceable conditions.
A host of meetings in jeopardy.
With weather forecasters predicting at least one week of subzero temperatures and intermittent snow for the British Isles, a host of racecourses are already sounding doubts about their forthcoming turf meetings.
Wetherby are due to inspect at 8.30 am tomorrow morning ahead of a preposed Monday fixture, while Lingfield are due to take a look at 7.30 am tomorrow ahead of their scheduled Monday turf national hunt meeting.
Hexham's Wednesday meeting looks totally unlikely as the course is currently covered in a heavy blanket of snoe, and officials are due to inspect on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, Ludlow Clerk of the Course Bob Davies has already indicated his doubts over racing going ahead on Thursday, and he has decided to take an early look on Tuesday.
Today's Scoop Six depends on all weather meetings.
With turf racing being lost to frozen ground, Totesport have decided to base today''s Scoop Six bet on six all weather races, as follows:
Leg 1 - 2.10 pm Lingfield Park.
Leg 2 - 2.40 pm Lingfield Park.
Leg 3 - 3.05 pm Southwell.
Leg 4 - 3.15 pm Lingfield Park (Bonus Race).
Leg 5 - 3.35 pm Southwell.
