Goldikova back to her imperious best.

Breeders Cup winner Goldikova may have only put in a workmanlike performance when winning the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket's July Meeting on her first outing this season, but in today's Prix Rothschild at Deauville the Freddie Head trained four year old was back to her imperious best. Stalking her pace-maker Only Green, when given a little rein by partner Olivier Pesslier, she shot four lengths clear around the furlong pole, and cruised home ahead of French 1,000 Guineas winner Elusive Wave and Andre Fabre's Proviso.

The victory was Goldikova's second successive win in the race in two years, and she looks as good as ever ahead of her intended autumn campaign.

Mick Channon's Lahaleeb and Eva's Request along with Godolphin's Lady Marion ended up unplaced, and frankly all of them failed to get involved in the front end action.

Motivator has his first win as a sire.

Prior to today's meeting at Chester, 2005 Epsom Derby winner Motivator had had nine runners as a sire, but although eight of them had been placed, he had not secured his first winner.

However, that all changed today when Motivator's progeny Prompter secured a two length win over Tominator in the EBF Maiden Stakes at the Roodee. As fate would have it Prompter is trained by Motivator's former trainer Michael Bell, and as if that were not enough, Prompter also runs in the same colours as his sire.

Fit The Cove wins last major prize.

Despite picking up a five pound penalty for a win earlier in the week, the Harry Rogers trained Fit The Cove responded to the sustained urgings of partner Willie Supple to get back up in the final strides and secure his second win of the week at the Galway Festival.

Just in front at the furlong pole of the Connacht Tribune Centenary Handicap, Fit The Cove was chased all the way to the line by Ask Jack, and for a second Maundy Money came between the pair and got his head in front, but Supple's final effort just got Fit The Cove back up to land the spoils by a short head and a head.

Bob's Pride gives Weld eighth win at Festival.

Proving his versatility, Bob's Pride followed up his third place in Tuesday's feature Galway Mile with a wide margin win in this afternoon's Beginners Chase on the final day of the Galway Festival. The win gave trainer Dermot Weld his eighth victory of this year's week long Festival, and it should be sufficient for Weld to pick up his twenty fourth leading trainer title at Galway.

Bell indicates objectives for top fillies.

Michael Bell has today been talking frankly about his plans for his two top three year old fillies. Discussing Epsom and Curragh Oaks winner Sariska, the trainer confirmed she is in fine form ahead of her proposed run in the Yorkshire Oakes at York's Ebor Meeting later this month. After Midday franked the Oaks form with a win in yesterday's Group 1 Nassau Stakes, Bell indicated he was fairly confident Sariska can add to her Pattern race successes at the Knavesmire.

Talking about Sariska's ultimate objective, Bell said,

"There is no doubt the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe is Sariska's major objective, and we are deliberately spacing out her races to ensure there is plenty of petrol left in the tank when we get to Longchamp in October. If as I expect she wins the Yorkshire Oaks, she will probably not have another outing prior to her run in the Arc."

Going on to discuss Nassau Stakes third Moneycan'tbuylove, Bell said,

"I can't say she suprised me yesterday, as I have known for some time she is a very progressive filly, and having finished third in a Group 1, I think we will have a go at winning the Group 2 Blandford Stakes at the Curragh on 12 August.

Towards the end of the season we would like to give her some international experience, and the E P Taylor Stakes at Woodbine is the current objective."

Seta set for bigger prizes.

After her eight length romp at Newmarket yesterday afternoon, Luca Cumani has confirmed the Prestige Stakes and/or the Fillies Mile will be on Seta's agenda if the daughter of Pivotel shows no ill effects from Saturday's initial outing. Speaking after her win at British racing's headquarters, Cumani said,

"Seta is a straightforward and professional filly, and if she remains fit, we would expect her to do very well during the remainder of this season."

Cambridgeshire possible for long-term absentee Broomielaw.

Given an excellent ride by Hayley Turner, the Ed Dunlop trained Broomielaw dismissed a two year absence from the track to defeat the well regarded Laaheb by a neck in yesterday's Adnams Handicap at Newmarket.

Owned by Lady Ferguson, since winning a Maiden in August 2007, the son of Rock of Gibraltar has been inundated with injury problems over the last two years, even to the point were his racing future was in major doubt. Thanks to a superb training effort by Ed Dunlop, he has bounced straight back to winning ways, and connections are now considering a campaign which will culminate with a run in the one mile one furlong Cambridgeshire back at Newmarket in October.

Tate to test Kings Gambit's stamina.

Yorkshire based trainer Tom Tate was delighted with Kings Gambit's closing third over ten furlongs in the recent Group 2 Skybet York Stakes, but he now wants to test his South African recruits stamina prior to a potential run in the Irish Field St Leger at the Curragh.

Kings Gambit has won Group 1 contests in South Africa over ten and twelve furlongs, but having satisfactrily completed his first run in Britain, Tate intends to enter him in the Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes over a mile and five furlongs at Newbury on Saturday week. Speaking about his plans, Tate said,

"We know he needs a mile and a half, but I want to see if he can get the extra furlong in the Geoffrey Freer. If he does well at Newbury, then I think we may well supplement him for the Irish Field St Leger next month."

Channon interested in Irish Field St Leger for Youmzain.

Mick Channon has confirmed Youmzain is back in training now the swelling in a hind joint has finally dissipated. The trainer has also indicated, having missed the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes due to the injury niggle, he would be interested in running Youmzain in the Irish Field St Leger ahead of his usual appearance in the Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe - a race in which he has finished as runner-up for the last two years.

Channon would be very keen to give Youmzain a run over a mile and three quarters, but the handler has admitted it is up to owner Jaber Abdullah and his racing manager Bruce Raymond to sanction a potential outing at the Curragh.

Laura Young horse found with Tranexamic Acid in bloodwork.

The banned substance Tranexamic Acid, the same blood thinner used by Nicky Henderson on the Queen's Moonlit Path, has been found in the blood sample taken from Strategic Plan after he won a Selling Handicap at Plumpton In March.

Trainer Laura Young is now expecting to be called before a BHA Disciplinary Panel to explain the finding, but in the meantime, her Vet Colin Duncan, who also acts as veterinary officer to Salisbury and Wincanton racecourses, has spoken out, indicating he has no knowledge of how the substance was administered, and pointing out other tests at West Country stables were he acts as vet have produced no other positive samples.

Punters lose their way in the fog and rain.

It seems the fog and rain at Goodwood got into the minds of the punters in the Totesport Scoop Six Bet, for of the sixteen tickets running on to the fith leg of yesterday's wager, not one had chosen pre-race favourite Midday, so the pools now roll over to next Saturday.

With a Win Fund currently standing at£149,295 and a Bonus Fund of £63,983 - with next week's wagers still to be added, a single winner of next Saturday's Scoop Six could be looking to collect over three hundred thousand pounds if they can land the combined Win and Bonus Funds in consecutive weeks.

Rivals fly past Bird.

Despite leading towards the closing stages of yesterday's West Virginia Derby at Mountaineer Park, Kentucky Derby winner Mind That Bird had to settle for third place in the race as Soul Warrior and Big Drama snatched first and second positions in the last half furlong of the Grade 2 contest.

Saturday Galway Highlights.

- 50/1 shot Island Myth kept up this year's trend of long priced winners of Galway's major races. The joint bottom weight had been off the track for some considerable time over the last two year's, but trainer Noel Glynn thinks he has now got him fit, and yesterday's shock win in the signature Freshways Handicap Hurdle would boost that assessment.

- Connections of Paco Jack have confirmed his three quarter length victory over Air of Confusion in yesterday's Low Low Galway Blazers Handicap Steeplechase has earned him a crack at the Kerry National at Listowel next month.

- Aidan O'Brien completed a two year old double at Galway on Saturday. First, Black Quartz fought back to retake the lead close home in the Irish Farm Stallions Premier Nursery, and then odds on favourite Mikhail Glinka overcame greenness which saw him bump into the running rail before rallying to secure victory in the Dawn Juice Maiden.
