Sir Parky pulls off big suprise.
The Richard Hannon trained Sir Parky was the 33/1 complete outsider of the field in this afternoon's Summerville Tattersalls Stakes, but under an enterprising ride from Richard Hughes he snatched the Group 3 contest away from his more fancied rivals. Sent on from the start, Sir Parky controlled the pace, and he had most of his rivals in trouble a furlong from home, and he even had stamina left to hold on by half a length from the late challenging Irish raider Sebastian Flight, with the consistant Mata Keranjang having to settle for third place.
Manifest tossed aside by Akmal.
John Dunlop's Akmal had the Henry Cecil trained odds on favourite Manifest in trouble fully three furlongs from home in today's Listed Noel Murless Stakes. Try as he might, Tom Queally could not conjure the same kind of run exhibited by Manifest during his Maiden nineteen length victory earlier in the season, and all the while Akmal kept galloping, holding on in clever style by three quarters of a length from the strong finishing Naheem, with the frankly disappointing Manifest a further length and a half adrift.
After the race, John Dunlop confirmed Akmal would now be put away for the winter, and the handler is very hopeful Akmal will return to put in some Group winning performances as a four year old.
Oxx hoping for good draw.
In an interview earlier today, John Oxx indicated he would be most anxious for Sea The Stars to avoid a low draw for Sunday's Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe,
"In any race there is an element of luck, and everyone knows a low draw at Longchamp over the mile and a half course is not necessarily a good thing, so even for Sea The Stars, I will be hoping he gets a bit of luck in the draw." Going on to discuss his pre race preperations, Oxx said,
He did a bit of work this morning, and providing there are no problems, the intention is to send him over on Saturday."
Rainbow not on show at Newmarket.
John Gosden's Rainbow view is one of four fillies pulled out at today's 48 hour decleration stage for the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes. Although no official reason has been given, a tilt at the Champion Stakes later in the month may be the preferred option.
Rainbow view is joined on the absentee list by Irish fillies Mad About You and Totally Devoted, while French filly Reggane will race at Longchamp in the Prix de la Foret.
Following today's declerations, Ghanaati is now a short priced favourite for Saturday's Group 1 Sun Chariot Stakes, and if she returns to her Coronation Stakes form, it has to be said she will take all the beating.
However, Sir Michael Stoute still has two interesting runners in the field - If she will excuse me for calling her an old 'war horse', Heaven Sent must come into the reckoning, particularly on fast ground at Newmarket, while four time winner Strawberry Daquiri has the profile of a Stoute 'impriver' and must be on the short list for being placed.
Of the other runners, Spacious, Fantasia and french filly Alnadana could all win if on a 'going day'.
Charlton to send Border Patrol to Foret.
In an unexpected move, Roger Charlton has decided to put his unbeaten three year old Border Patrol up against Goldikova in this weekend's Prix de la Foret at Longchamp. Explaining the move, Charlton said,
"He has continued to improve all season, and quite honestly I don't know how good he actually is at present, but I do know he will be even better next year, and exposure at the highest level is now an essential step in his development."
Fortune looking forward to Showcasing.
Speaking this morning, Jimmy Fortune said he was really happy to be coming off his racing ban in time to ride Showcasing in tomorrow's Middle Park Stakes,
"I rode him in some work last week, and I would say he has progressed since his win in the Gimcrack, and if he turns in what he is capable of at Newmarket tomorrow, he really will take all the beating."
Mastercraftsman to give Dundalk display.
Multiple Group 1 winner Mastercraftsman is amongst twelve entries for tomorrow's Group 3 Diamond Stakes at Dundalk's all weather stadium. The Ballydoyle colt has already shown in the Juddmonte International Stakes at York he gets the extended ten furlong trip, but with the Breeders Cup Classic as a potential target, Aidan O'Brien wants to ensure he can cope with an artificial surface prior to a possible trip to California.
The news is a major boost to Dundalk's prestige, and the racecourse executive are now expecting a bumper crowd for their Friday evening floodlit meeting.
As advised - Sariska misses Arc.
As we advised in our Tuesday news coverage, Sariska will not be supplemented today for Sunday's Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe. Trainer Michael Bell this morning confirmed the ground at Longchamp is not suited to his filly's action, and she will now be aimed at the Emirates Airlines Champion Stakes at Newmarket on 17 October.
>>>>>> follow on story -
Also as we predicted earlier in the week, French pair Cavalryman and Stacelita have been supplemented for Sunday's running of the 'Arc', and both will gain access to the mile and a half Group 1, as Alpine Rose has been switched to the Prix de L'Opera, so Cavalryman and Stacelita take the last two places in the maximum field of twenty runners.
Dar re mi probable for Breeders Cup.
Irrespective of her performance in Sunday's Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe, the John Gosden trained Dar re mi is almost certain to head to California in November for the Breeders Cup races at Santa Anita.
Due to her victory in the Audi Pretty Polly Stakes, the four year old dual Group 1 winner already qualifies to run in the Breeders Cup Fillies and Mares Turf, and dependant on how she performs in the Arc, connections are said to be interested in giving her the option to compete in the main Breeders Cup Turf.
All the leading contenders remain in Cambridgeshire field.
A maximum field of thirty five will go to post for Saturday's nine furlong Cambridgeshire, and in what looks like being a very lively betting heat, all the leading contenders have stood their ground.
David Simcock has decided to leave Bushman in the line up, and if Saturday's forecast heavy rain gets to Newmarket before post time, it will certainly enhance his chances. Sirvino is going in search of a sixth handicap win this season, while Tony Martin's Salute Him will hope to improve on his third position achieved on his last appearance on a race track at Ascot's Royal Meeting back in June.
John Gosden's Charm School will have to reverse his Newbury result with the Michael Jarvis trained Almiqdaad when they re-oppose in Saturday's contest, but Charm School's jockey Jimmy Fortune believes he would have won the Newbury Handicap if he had not been bauked at a crucial point in the race.
Luca Cumani has booked Kieran Fallon to galvanise Swop, and if the five year old lives up to his true potential, he could take some beating.
Jim Goldie's Nanton was second in the Cambridgeshire at 66/1 last year, and he is going in search of a historic double of becoming the first horse in 124 years to land the Cambridgeshire and Cesarewitch in the same season.
For each way punters, the Andrew Balding trained Brief Encounter is reported to be in rude health, and on his best form he has a definite chance.
Major female challenge in Champion Stakes.
Wednesday witnessed the latest 'scratch stage' for the Emirates Airlines Champion Stakes, and although John Oxx's five time Group 1 winner Sea The Stars remains amongst the 33 entries, as does the Aidan O'Brien pair of Fame and Glory and Masterminded, participation in Sunday's Prix de L'Arc de Triomphe and possible involvement in the Breeders Cup at Santa Anita at the beginning of November would seem to cast serious doubt over their eventual involvement in this year's Champion Stakes.
However, the remaining entry list includes an abundance of talented fillies, including; Oakes winners Look Here and Sariska, Yorkshire Oaks victor Dar re mi, Matron Stakes winner Rainbow view, and George Strawbridge's other talented filly Fantasia.
A list of other serious contenders would seem to include Alain deroyer dupres' french raiders Alpine rose and Beheshtam, and the Prince Khalid Abdullah owned trio of Twice Over, Doctor Fremantle, and more particularly the progressive Zacinto.
Nacarat to take on Kauto Star.
Tom George confirmed this morning he is preparing his Racing Post Chase winner Nacarat specifically for confrontation with Kauto Star in Kempton Park's King George VI Chase on 26 December.
George confirmed his promising young chaser has been back in training since July, and will take in the William Hill Gold Cup at Exeter on 03 November en route to his challenge to Kauto Star on Boxing Day.
Lady Springbank rested for 2010 campaign.
Paul Deegan was delighted with the performance of Lady Springbank when winning last Sunday's Group Three C L Weld Park Stakes at the Curragh, but he believes the filly, who was formerly with the suspended Karl Burke, is a 'scopey filly' who will grow and strengthen into an exciting three year old
Prospect.
Having discussed the options, the decision has been reached to give Lady Springbank the time and room to develop, and this will mean she will not race again this season, but will rbe allowed to develop over the winter months before returning to action in the 2010 flat season.
Three good opportunities for Smullen.
Jockey Pat Smullen is confident three of his mounts at this weekend's Longchamp meeting have excellent opportunities of getting into the frame.
On Saturday he rides Prix du Moulin runner up Famous Name in the Prix Dollar for Dermot Weld, and although Aqlaam let down the Moulin form by his poor run in the QE II Stakes, Famous Names' three Listed victories earlier in the season give him a good chance on the form book, and Smullen believes Dermot Weld has his horse primed for Saturday's contest.
Smullen is even more confident about Weld's representative in the Prix de L'Opera on Sunday, for Chinese White has improved all season, and the jockey says he is really looking forward to riding such a progressive filly in the Group 1 race.
In the Prix de L'Abbaye, Smullen is aboard former winner Benbaun, a veteran sprinter who seems to have been rejuvenated since joining Kevin Ryan, and based on his close up second in the Nunthorpe Stakes, and his current fitness levels, Smullen believes he is a 'shoe-in' to finish in the first three.
