Genki boosts Charlton's fantastic record in Stewards Cup.
When the Stephen Drowne ridden Genki landed today's Bluesquare Stewards Cup at a fog enshrouded Goodwood, it meant Roger Charlton had trained three winners from five runners during the recent history of the great old race.
Well behind at the three furlong pole, Genki came on strong in the latter stages of the six furlong ultra competitive handicap, and even a late challenge from the David Nicholls trained Evens and Odds could not wrest the spoils from the Charlton gelding.
Top weight Knot In Wood ran his usual good race to overhaul the front running Markab for third place, while the Michael Owen owned Mac gillie eoin also ran on at the end, but could only manage fifth place on today''s soft ground.
Midday stamps her class in Nassau.
With the pundits suggesting Midday would not handle the soft ground at Goodwood this afternoon, Henry Cecil ignored their warnings and took the risk to run Midday in the ten furlong Nassau Stakes, and his risk paid dividends when the daughter of Oasis Dream landed her first Group 1 victory.
Taking it up clearly three furlongs from home, the Epsom Oaks runner up paid huge compliments to Sariska, as she never looked in danger on her run to the line.
Although Rainbow view had been supported into favouritism at Midday's expense, she once more failed to recapture her two year old form and had to settle for second place, while Moneycan'tbuylove continued her progressive run by landing third position in a Group 1 race.
Board Meeting lands first pattern race success.
The Elie Lellouche trained Board Meeting could only manage to finish fifth in the Prix de Diane behind Stacelita, so her short head win in front of juvenile Group 1 winner Proportional in this afternoon's Group 3 Prix de Psyche at Deauville certainly boosted Stacelita's already considerable reputation, particularly as the first two home today were well clear of the remainder of the field.
Today's victory over the 2,000 metre turf course also represented Board Meeting's first ever success in a Pattern race, and in due course, this will certainly boost her value as a brood mare.
Zacinto makes winning return after long absence.
One time 2,000 Guineas hope Zacinto made a winning return to the track for trainer Sir Michael Stoute after a three hundred and twenty two day absence from racing. Just requiring one reminder from Ryan Moore, he ran on in the final furlong to overhaul northern raider Hartley and score in the Bluesquare Listed Premier Stakes over a mile at a rain soaked Goodwood. The ever consistant Pure Poetry ran on well to snatch third place in what could prove to be an informative contest.
This success was attained on unfavourable soft ground, so it is likely Zacinto may live up to his promise and land some bigger prizes during the remainder of the current season.
Kerry National next for Paco Jack.
After his three quarter length success over Air of Confusion in this afternoon's Low Low Galway Blazers Handicap Steeplechase, connections of victor Paco Jack confirmed his next target would be the Kerry National at Listowel in September.
Punters choose wrong Johnston horse.
In a week were he has farmed the handicap races at Goodwood, Yorkshire based trainer Mark Johnston scored again with Eastern Aria in today's first race at a foggy Goodwood.
Punters had chosen the other Johnston entrant Because We Can as their favourite, but she set the race up for her stable companion by leading for most of the ten furlong contest. But when Eastern Aria went by at the furlong pole, the favourite had no answers to the daughter of Halling. Citizenship ran on for second, with Lady Luachmhar snatching third place off Because We Can.
With one being withdrawn from the field, the handicap only had fifteen runners, and favourite backers did not even get the satisfaction of an each way return.

Godolphin have confirmed Gladiatorus is to miss his trip to Chicago for the Arlington Million. He has had a troublesome corn removed from his foot, and this has left him too sore to compete in America. Connections are now said to be considering the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville later this month as an alternative target.
With Frankie Dettori not now due to ride in America, it will be interesting to observe as to whether he goes back to his original plan of riding in the Shergar Cup at Ascot.
Rip foot problem puts him out till autumn.
Aidan O'Brien has confirmed, during his two and a half length success in Wednesday's BGC Sussex Stakes, Rip Van Winkle aggravated the minor hind hoof injury he had suffered prior to the race, and with the three year old now being reported to be 'sore', the trainer has indicated he will not return to the track until the autumn, with the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes as the potential target.
